Default Jag rear end

Hey,
I'm restoring my CCX, I wonder how the rear end is fixed.
There is 4 bolts on the top to fix it on the frame, on it there is no problem.
But on mine a piece of metal was welded down on the frame to fixe the inner fulcrum shaft of the wishbone. Is it normal ? There is two circle hole in the frame and it's used only to let the inner fulcrum shat go inside or to fixe it ?
I hope I'm quite clear.

Default Contemporary Jag rear end

I've forwarded you an email with some photos of my set up.
The lower fulcrum shafts do go through those two holes and a washer and nyloc nut secures the fulcrum shaft to the frame on the back side of your photo.

Any questions let me know.

Mike

Alain, I'm not quite sure what your question is. On the CCX chassis, the center differential is affixed solidly to the chassis at the top and at the bottom. The top is affixed to the chassis via 4 bolts into the bracket near the top of the differential. The bottom is firmly attached via the lower conrol arm shafts extending through the holes in the rear chassis crossmember as your photo shows. I'm thinking that perhaps your question is asking is this typical and original from the Contemporary factory or added from a previous owner? If that is the question then yes, that is the original mounting arrangemnt as delivered new from the factory. I hope this helps. If not then contuinue to ask, I and many others here will be happy to assist you.

Alain,

While you are under the car working on the Jag IRS you might want to spend a little time and effort repairing the crossmember. In the picture below I have highlighted the areas that are beat up and represent potential future problems.

The through bolt holes should have reinforcing tubes in the crossmember to prevent distortion when the bolts are tightened and the cutout has also seen some abuse. It should be repaired / replaced for visual appearances if not for safety.

Alain,

To amplify what Ed said, here are two photos:

and

The first photo shows a single nut, looking from the front of the car toward the rear. The second shows both nuts.

As you can see there is a tube reinforcement going from the front to the rear, and the washer and nut are all the way toward the rear.

Looking at your photo, it seems you are looking at the rear of the crossmember. If so, probably your differential will mount the same way as mine.

A LITTLE CAUTION: My car is an Everett-Morrison, NOT a Contemporary. It does appear the two cars have the same mounting arrangement.

I hope this helps!

Tom
