Default Transmission

My Richmond 4+1 transmission has developed a leak in the front and in the tail housing, I traced the front problem to the bearing retainer gasket and the rear
is the tail housing bushing. I called Richmond Gear and unfortunately they don't have the bushing available (the drive shaft has play in it). Richmond Gear has stop making the street race and road race transmissions so certain parts are unavailable. I'm looking for parts for the tranny to try and repair the leaks, the tranny works greeat with my set up and I really dont want to go to a top loader and the other 5 speed options would be diffcult to work with the gearing I have. The car has a FE428 with a 2.88 rearend and 26 1/5" tires, with the current tranny 5 gear (1-1) im turning 2250 rpms at 60 mph, with the 5 speed OD's and with the .81 5th gear the motor would turn at just over idle at 60 plus I would have to change the drive shaft and probably have to relocate the shifter slightly. I live on Long Island so if anyone knows where I can get parts would be greatly appreciated

See if Richmond would be willing to send you the dimension drawings for the bushing you need. You may be able to cross it over to an available bushing from another transmission. If not, they are usually just bronze bushings. You may have to get one made at a machine shop. Should be a simple machining job. Probably won't be cheap though unless you know someone that has a metal lathe.

Also, you could get the tail housing modified to accept an available bushing. It's a more complicated job, but would simplify repairs going forward.

I would be willing to bet that it is a common bushing that fits another transmission.

You may find Borg Warner Super T10/GM parts are compatible

This YouTube video by Paul Cangialosi of www.5speeds.com may be of some help?

I had mine rebuilt in 2019 and that included a new rear bushing and seal. I don't know where or how my transmission shop sourced them, but they were able to track them down at that time. I just checked the parts list in the manual and there are part numbers listed but, alas, no dimensions.

I believe in the "If not you then who?" method of finding what you need. I'd contact well know transmission oriented people such as David Kee and others and ask them. I know Kee does toploaders, but he's been around forever. If he can't get you what you need he likely knows who can. Also a Google search turns up a place called PitStop USA as a Richmond parts suppplier. Did you try them? Is this the part you're looking for?

From the parts list I have I see this:
p/n 1000127050 Extension Housing Bushing
p/n 8380008 Extension Housing Bushing 9/85 & Newer

Obviously it depends upon the manufacturing date, as it appears there was a change in bushings. The one PitStop USA lists appears to be for transmissions prior to 09/85.

The only thing I'd suggest is to have a local machine shop make one for you.

Thank you for the feed back Brian (Cycleguy55) who and where did you have your Richmond rebuilt?
I found a place, SK transmission in Lindenhurst, that told me they have the parts but I would have to bring him the old bushing and front seal to match what he has. The Richmond transmission do have interchangable parts with GM's muncie transmissions and the 350/400 transmissions.

I had it rebuilt locally (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada). That rebuild included welding and machining the case to deal with a bearing support that had somehow become enlarged, allowing the countershaft (IIRC) to move around.

Old West Islip boy here. So good to hear that SK Speed is still alive! Spent lots of $$$$ in my youth at their old Rte 109 location. Good luck getting your transmission together.
