Older Contemporary question
Does anyone have a large nut (around 1") welded to the drivers upright for the upper control arm? It is on an angle and can be seen from the engine compartment. What is this for?

RIch, Can you post a photo? I think I know what you're looking at, but want to be sure.

Is it possibly an anchor for a turnbuckle or something similar to limit engine movement, with the opposite attaching to the cylinder head.?

My frame is verrryyyy early #0000017, bought 1980. Peter Bayer said that it is probably the 17th one made. I was wondering if it was for some sort of support for the steering column but the anchor could be a possiblity. I have always wondered what it is for. They never had a manual back then so If I was unsure of how to do something I either called or stopped in at one of their locations you see how something went together. As I was putting the car together it never stopped me so I never asked. I am in the process of putting aluminum panels in the engine compartment and instead of cutting out for it in the panel I will probably just cut it off. I am curious about what this could have been for.
