Forget it snake. I started this thread 10 days ago attempting to get opinions from replica builders and mfgrs:
http://clubcobra.com/forums/showthre...highlight=gr-1
Out of 28 posts I got a valid response from two, and one guy who says 'bring me money, I'll build you anything'. Not at all informative and no serious discussion about the way it might be done.
All the rest of the experts debated how best it should be a production car in spite of my stressing that it was not an answer to my original question. You won't get help here and tell your cousin that he must address the factors I raised in my questions.

If you want it built like the Ford show car with all the superzoot moter, fancy interior , high tech chassis/suspension,etc, you'll need million$$$ to do it. Yep , I can build the body and fit it to a standard Cobra kit car frame , F5, D+D,Hurricaine, whoever., But you got 2 problems, 1,FoMoCo owns the design, and 2, I have to eat, pay bills, taxes, etc. so it comes down to SHOW ME THE MONEY.

oh wow i did not release this was on here. i tried looking for this topic before i posted it, but i did not see anything. ford will never build it. if they would it would have been right after the ford gt. but with the gt almost making ford go broke, and way the country has been for sometime now ford just could not make a chance at making it. also ford would never build a t-bird 2 door coupe again that is priced near the mustang. they do not what to hurt the sales of the stang ever. when the 2000 t-bird came out they hoped to take buyes from the vett, never from a guy who was thinking about a mustang.
so in order for the gr-1 to be built, and kit car company has to make it.

You may be right Clois but I'd much rather have it the way KMP or ERA or Jac would build it.

Regardless of who might try to replicate it, it seems criminal that the molds for it are just sitting there locked up in a storage facility somewhere, Oh for the good ol days where some well known known individuals used to be able to sneak in after midnite & 'Borrow' stuff in the interest of 'improving' the breed!
Not going to happen at my end unless Mrs Mac wins the lottery, and I am not even sure that would be a good thing since all 'my' stuff would get put on hold...again. ..... and that would be bad..

Ha Ha, I could live with her only taking half, but been down that road once already & the 'half' I learnt in basic maths does not seem to apply in this modern world when it comes to division of assets.... Only joking though, I often arrive back from the w/shop to find her watching the GR-1 video from the Discovery channel...again.....

Think about what you are asking here-
As a kit car builder, you would have to design/ build the molds or body bucks, design the body support structure, find an existing chassis to place it on or design a new chassis, come up with and interior design that could be supplied to make it look good, etc...
And then, you would only be able to sell approximately 2 of them before the legal might of Ford Motor Company landed on your doorstep for plagiarizing the design that they own the rights to.
Considering what this legal action may cost, what would be the value of taking on this course of action?
It really doesn't matter that Ford may never build it, it is their design to protect and decide how it will be used.
I'd be curious to hear how much Superformance paid GM for the rights to build the Gran Sport Corvette, which is a much older design.
If you really want one, you would probably have to build it yourself. As long as there is no profit in it, you may get away with building one with no real repercussions.
As Mr. Bruce said, it's all about the money......

A few years back, sum cat at the Dynacorn booth at Carlisle told me that they were payin' GM 7 or 9 % to licence the rites to make the repop Camaro bodys. Who knows what SpF is paying for the Cobras . I'm guessinFoMoCo wants the same for the Mustang bodys Dynacorn makes . As for the GR-1, they got lots invested in R+D so who knows what numbers they'd be lookin' for, if they would even want to get involved.

Gosh, 5 + years and this thread is still getting dragged back up, Im sure someone with the CNC smarts could do that, BUT 'they' would want a return on that investment which means selling cars and very likely attract some interest from Ford in regard to royalties or a stop operations type scenario..... Not sure on USA law where you build a 'one of' for yourself or a group build for a few of similar interest though. As I mentioned earlier if I really wanted to do one for myself it would be lookalike in overall outside shape only and bare bones inside.

The original is a Ford, so if you go into for profit production you will likely hear from their lawyers. And they have a lot of them.
