Question 8.8 posi in a coupe

I'm working on a coupe that could need a new diff. I really haven't looked yet to see whats in there but the r&p are pretty sloppy and the break away torque for the clutch packs is minimal. If I do end up replacing a gear set as well as clutch packs and bearings , I might as well up grade the center section while I'm at it. The coupe will be primarily used for street with the occasional track day. Question is, what center section would you recommend and why?

John

An Eaton Tru-Trac hands down....my 9" Ford guys love them. Good lock up in a straight away, non-dramatic in a turn.

I agree with Brent. I ran an Eaton in my other Cobra with the 8.8 and I raced it and ran it hard and never had a problem with it. I also had the axles upgraded to 31 spline but I don't know if that could be done in the Coupe if it has IRS. My other engine put out 530 horse and 515 pound torque and the Eaton never had a problem with it. I had the upgrade done after I broke the original posi unit that came in the car. The Eaton was next to a Detroit locker as I could hear the inside wheel squeak just a little on a tight slow turn such as in a driveway.

It never hurts to find out what the latest and greatest is with all the newer units available. All the 40 year old Eaton technology is tried and true but it doesn't hurt to find out if there is something better available if your going to have to spend the bucks.

Very true and believe it or not, I never even noticed until now who started this thread. If I had, I would never have posted in it.

That's OK Ron, I like to research things until I'm very comfortable making recommendations. I'm not one to pull info out of my ear and tell you some sort of story just because Billy-Bob and Ed say its the best.
