Coupe on 427 chassis?
Good day!
I am at the point to decide which body I place on my 427 round tube coil spring chassis.
I thought about a Daytona Coupe.
Does anybody know if, with little effort, such body will fit over the Cobra chassis, tub and spare tire insert?
I did not make the boot section of the chassis yet, nor the radiator frame. So I am open to adapt. Important also is where to source the windshield, but I ask the seller of the body.

I believe the Daytona's wheel base is about 3" longer.

It shouldn't be, but I hear what you mean. In fact the body I was offered is 5" longer at the bonnet which I could cut off. They extended it in a strategically good place to be able to reverse it.

Didn't Contemporary Classic put a Coupe body on their 427 frame?

Yes they did, also 289 cars on the same frame. Wheelbase should be 90". For screen take a look at Jag XJ12.

Hi Dominik,
You will need to rework some of the 3/4 tubing in the rear, and a little bit of work on the cowl hoop ribs where the side exhaust runs under, but other than that, things will work nicely. I'm sure you've already factored in the fabrication work to support the body, so If your comfortable with that, I'm sure you'll have no problem. Which body are you going to use? The Coupe's have a 90" wheelbase, but you can trim the body or extend the frame to match your needs. You just want to be sure that at the end of the day.... It looks correct. Most coupe bodies do not use the original style glass, so you will need to get in touch with the body manufacturer to see which they recommend. The Jag glass will fit an FFR, the coupe and convertible glass are different, don't recall which they use. If you absolutely need original style glass, I may be able to get my hands on some. Shipping to Cape town ? ? ? That would be new to me. Good luck with your build. I will be starting on mine soon too : ) Chassis first !

The frame is as far as that I mounted the control arms and uprights. No body supporting frame had been made yet. The interesting part for me is how little I have to modify the 427 tub and firewall and if I can use the spare tire insert from the 427 as well.
The body seems to be a FFR. I find out shortly. Also if the chap has the inside panels.
No rush here, this is the car I drive when I retire. Hold on, that is tomorrow! ;-)

That Daytony body is not really available anymore, but I could get the whole FFR kit.
Which my retirement funds won't allow be to buy.
So I build a Cobra with the help of the CCX mould that I have. It could be worse ;-)

Dominick, I heard from Allen Grant that McClusky put a Daytona Coupe body on a 427 chassis. You might check with them on the details.

Hi Guys!
I appreciate all your feedback, but it's not viable to import a body into South Africa.
I look a bit longer, but it will most likely become a 427 body which I can pull off my Contemporary mould.
