My introduction to you was as an unpaid crewman for the Bobcor Alfa team. I was amazed at the professionalism of your crew and the preparation level of the Datsuns. We on the other hand, paid for our fuel to get to track hoping against hope that Cozza would honor our receipts (and more important, that the expense check would be good!!!).

Yes, the Spector coupe is NOT original! As said, you must pick a "moment in time" and aim for that when restoring.

Perhaps you will take Bob up on his challenge, Alfa GTV 2.0 L vs. the 510, winner take all? Thirty-some years on this would be a hoot!

We know that Phil changed the exhaust and paint job. But how much else did he bother to change? Probably not much if anything else. So why not just fix the exhaust and repaint it?

I assume that the other daytonas have been beautifully restored with complete disassembly and new parts. If McCluskey is involved all screw heads will be aligned in the same direction and the body will be perfect. More perfect than any daytona that ever left the factory. A perfect restoration may be just as incorrect as modifications by some crazy past owner.

So what kind of different than original do you prefer?

Had me a nice little street BRE 510 from the dealer in Riverside...muy goodo running down 2002s. My butt fit then.

I had to get out my magnifying glass to read the lettering on the door, from another pic I have, also poor resolution.

OH NO!! It says 427 on the door!! How bogus is THAT!
Ok, clearly we will need another 'moment in time'.

I totally agree with over restoration, more perfect than it left the factory, puhlease... It IS a thrill seeing the Coupe as it was 'back in the day', even with the false lettering and gnarly exhaust, it's a documented survivor with a rich and fascinating history!

Interesting comments all guys, but the point is..and I agree with the present owner completely...not to restore it to look like all the other five beautifully restored examples, but to save what originality there is. The trouble is that much of the visual impression is completely wrong (if you are trying to work back to that '64 period) This being the first coupe and the one with most history IS completely different than the other five which had their bodies built in Modena. CSX 2287 is the original California built proto that won at Sebring and THAT should be the "point in time" to which it's restored. There are only a few top Cobra guys that really understand what that level of restoration should be. They'd never make the gauche mistake of overdoing the car. Leaving it as it is only confuses those who never saw it as it was and the longer this continues the farther away we get from those who could save it. Badger

Couldnt agree more with these latter comments, keeping the car in its present format has very little to do with the car and only adds credence to Mr Spector & all the drama that surrounds him. At the end of the day he did nothing to really enhance the cars reputation, be much better if this chapter could be deleted from the cars history.

Re-posted the photo from my album below... must have been right after he bought it and wrote all those "claims" on the car.

In looking over the image again, I guess I never realized how far forward the rear wheels are in the arch - at least as compared to the photo excaliber posted... also the butt seems lower in this shot too.

The angle on this picture is closer to the one with Spector. It also appears to have high profile rear tires on it than the Spector picture.

Why aren't the rear wheels centered in the rear wheelwell? I know the roadster rear wheels aren't centered either. Anybody know why that is?

For all the local guys that might want to visit Dr Simeone's Sports car collection i have the connection to be able to do that and will post the info when it is available.I visited there two Sat ago and i was told that they are moving the collection to another facility near the Phila airport.
I will let everyone know as soon as the info is available.
