Big brakes for Coupe
After taking the car out on the track at watkins glen last week, I realized that while the C5/Z06 brakes are fine for street and occasional track days (with track pads), they are not that great at actually stopping the car quickly from high speed. Not sure if it's the sliding caliper design, the lack of air to the rotors, the single rear piston, etc. But I'm looking to order a Wilwood 6 piston Superlite caliper for the front with 14" slotted rotors, and a 4 piston Superlite for the rear, also with 14" rotors.
After taking every measurement we could, my mechanic and I decided that the 14's would fit fine in the 18" coupe wheels, and that since it's a stock C5 hub, the Wilwood C5 kit should work. The Wilwood dealer also believes it should work, and just did one on a GT-40 (6 drive pins, not 5).
Anyway, has anyone done a big brake conversion on a coupe? If so, which kit did you go with? Any changes necessary to accomodate the pin drive system? Thanks
Steven
