Default sound control in SPF coupe

I realize we all like some noise in our cars , however I think the exaust and engine noise in my car is excessive. Have any of you guys added any sound deadener to the interior to your car and if so, what did you use? I am thinking of pulling the carpet and adding a dynamat type product and some neoprene and then putting the carpet back on. Also the heat gain around the footbox and firewall could be improved.

Second question: Have any of you changed to a TKO from a T56? Sixth gear is fairly worthless below 80 and first gear is too high in the T56 for me.

I put a TKO600 in my car from the start (with the 0.82 OD). I had a removeable trans mount fabbed which is a lifesaver. I got a bad clutch disc from the factory and it only took 90 minutes to pull the tranny, replace it and put it back in. Without the removeable mount, you have to pull the engine.

I am running open sidepipes on my coupe, which I think actually makes for a quieter ride inside the car (outside may be a different story). Cruising from Vegas back to SoCal at 2600 RPM, my wife refused ear plugs and didn't mind the sound at all. IMHO, the car sounds much healthier with the open pipes and doesn't have the "rap-rap" sound on deceleration, since it is breathing more freely.

Just my $0.02,
Doug, SPC088

Sounds like your final drive is too high for your tastes.

What ratio are you running?

Tire diameter?

Trans ratios?

I can put them in a spreadsheet and give you some idea what to change.

My kirkham is a 3.55 final drive, TKO 600 (.82 fifth) and billboard Goodyears - I'm right on the speedlimit at about 2100.
