Question Daytona Coupes first to use lift jacks ??

I heard this and always thought that Penski race team in late sixties was the first on an Indy car.

Does anybody know if this is true. ... Maybe I missed it on this forum already.
Sorry if it's redundent.

Hersh

Don't know if they were the first, but the Coupes had 'em in 1964, Hersh.

Thumbs up

Thanks Ron. That's pretty neat. All this time I thought it was a big deal
that Penski did it on an Indy car.

Default Air Jacks

To the best of my memory, the Daytonas were the first to use air jacks in long distance road racing. They were copied from Indy.

Hersh,
As far as I can tell the Daytonas did not have air jacks until the 1965 Daytona race.
The Penske/Hall Corvette Grand Sport had them at Sebring in 1964. There were 5 Grand Sports (or six, depending on who you talk to), and only the Penske/Hall GS-005 coupe and the Penske owned GS-001 roadster at the 1966 Sebring race had them.

I don't know of any sports car that used them in racing prior to 1964.

I'm pretty sure that it was Agajanian (sp?) who invented it for Indy cars, but I don't really have much interest in Indy so I'm not exactly sure when.

Steve
