Default Toploader sometimes whines in 2 gear

David,
I put a synchronizer kit in a Big in Big out toploader and sometimes I get a high pitched whine in second gear especially in gear down mode. It sounds like metal to metal contact. It doesn't happen all the time just now and then. I was careful to assemble correctly but can't guess why this is happening. Do you have and ideas as to what the problem is. It's only 2nd gear but the transmission works flawlessly except for this sometimes noise.

Thanks,

Dan Benson

What pieces were included in the synchro kit? It sounds like the blocker ring is not properly speeding up second to match the speed of the output shaft so the engagement teeth are clashing.

David,

The kit was from Dan Williams and included front,
rear bearing, blocking rings and gaskets. The rest of the transmission looked to be perfect.

Thanks,

Dan Benson
