Angry My toploader is acting up!!

David,

I own ERA #561, built new in 1999 by Steve McKellar .. You built the tranny for him - I have a copy of the receipt dated 2/25/99 for $1695. I bought the car last summer and it now has only 3000 careful miles - never raced - never over 5000 RPM (afraid to hurt the $20000+ Sideoiler), and I NEVER sppedshift or any of that crap some guys do to abuse their cars. Anyway, when I shift from 1st to second and second to third now - I feel some "weird " stuff vibrating in the shift handle.... like synchros not engaging properly or something. And, sometimes when I engage the clutch in 1st it makes a brief squeeling noise.

Question - how long to you warrant your transmissions? Shouldn't it last more than 3000 miles - especially since it has had no abuse?

I'm looking for some help here - didn't think I was going to have to buy a new tranny after only 3000 miles........... I have a suspicion it won;t be long before I'm calling for a tow truck when it breaks.

My phone is 503-348-1957

Tim,
Our warranty information can be found at:

There could be several things that may cause the symptoms you are describing. Clutch and shifter adjustment is critical and is most times the culprit when more than one gear is involved.
Do you know how many miles were put on the transmission before you purchased the car last summer?
