Shift lever w/ reverse lockout?
I hear and see ads for original shift levers not turned and mutalated like some i've seen. Do you have such a animal ?
If so how much and what length do they come in? I have one
that i turned and slotted but i'm not happy with it. Dick Smith
has an original Shelby {CSX2036} if i recall right and his shift
pattern is different then mine and a number of others that i
know of. What determine's the shift pattern? I have read a
article or two that states if one where to turn over the linkage
it will change the location of reverse etc. Thanks in advance
for any info. Gary Hoffer.

Yup,,,you can turn around the linkage where it bolts on the trans and reverse the shift pattern. Why? Heck, you got me why one would want to do that. I had a car like that in high school, I thought it was "cool", lol.

On a factory shifter reverse is to the left and back and on a Hurst shifter reverse is to the left and forward. The lever position determines where reverse is. On a factory shifter the lever is facing down and on a Hurst shifter the lever is facing up.
Here is a typical Hurst setup. The reverse lever is in the middle.

David, Thanks for the timely reply, information appreciated very
much. Looking at the picture a question came to mind. Is there
a plate to raise the shift lever so more of my shifter comes out of
the tunnel. I have three lengths of shifters but would like more
of it exposed. Thanks again. Gary Hoffer.

We do not offer a different plate to raise the shifter. You could use a spacer under the stick but it would increase the length of the handle.

Is there any "trick" to taking a 4 speed shifter (with reverse lockout) apart? I need to have the shifter face forward not rearward which means the "lockout" has to be moved to the opposite side. It appears that to dissassemble it you need to push the "T" out but, so far, it doesn't budge. Is there more to it than that.

Shucks, I was hoping you would have an answer by now. I need to replace the shift boot and it looks to me like the only way is to remove the reverse lockout T handle.
How you do that?

Tampa: The shifter is taken apart by unbolting the handle from the shifter mechanism, turn it upside down and look in the center bore and the is a small brass washer that is soldered to a multistrand wire running through the lever, it must be unsoldered and the pushed out through the tube and "T" handle and out the top where the knob screws on. Take note of how the pieces fit so you can reassemble it and resolder (use silver solder it is stronger) the cable or use a small crush sleeve on the cable.
Ernie: The boot can be replaced over the "T" handle if you are careful and use a small bit of lubricant, maybe K-Y or silicone spray???
Carefully pry one part of the boot over one side of the "T" at a time. It looks like it won't go but I have done it twice.
