Beaches in Pensacola
Guys - We are thinking of taking a family vacation in March to Pensacola for the kid's spring break. We have gone every year for the past few years but are worried about going back this year due to the oil spill last year.
Does anyone have first hand, recent experience as to what the beaches are like right now?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Can't speak to Pensacola per se, because it is 150 miles or so east of me, but I can say that we got almost no residue here on our beaches in the south Mississippi area. Haven't seen a crew in a couple of months.
Beaches here are fine... come this way and you'll not have to deal with the spring break crowd , though the beaches aren't as pretty because of the barrier island effects.

If you come down at the end of March, be sure to make time to hit the Mustang/Ford show at the Pensacola Fairgrounds (March 25-27). I'll be there with my ERA.

They have a good show and usually a very good swapmeet, too.

Im currently in Perdido Key, just a few miles up from P-cola, and all is well. There has not been any oil on the beach since about August of last year and even then, it was in very small quantities. I went out fishing yesterday in the gulf and all is well. Not a drop of oil anywhere. Fish are more abundant than they have been in years due to the commercial fisherman and shrimpers being forced to take a break from raping the ocean last summer.

Ocean Yesterday/ I went out 16 miles and did not see any oil residue. I did see some back in September.
One of the many red snapper that i caught yesterday. They are out of season, so they were all thrown back minus a 14 pounder that was going to die anyway. I plan on eating it tonight. I also ate snapper that i caught back in September. They are as healthy as they have ever been.

I was in P'cola six months ago and the beaches were as beautiful as they ever were.
