Important Hampton Inn notes.....
When you reserve your rooms at the Hampton, your reservations code
is: "DS1". This will give you the group rate of $69.00. The Hampton serves
a free breakfast every morning. There is a large, well lighted parking lot
with plenty of room for cars and trailers. The hotel is new, and most of the
drivers seemed very pleased with their rooms during the last track event.
Do to the structure of the accommodations agreement, late check outs are
not allowed. Hampton reservations available at: (352) 371-4171

Count me in guys!! Just the kind of thing to look forward to during those long winter days. Adam, my son says he wants to come too, so we'll see if he can get some vacation time to fly out.
He hasn't had a chance to try out the car with the new engine and he seems to think that he can go faster than his old man. He may be right, sigh...
I'll get my check off tonight.
thanks for your efforts, gents.

Gainsville, Feb 2nd
I'll be there if I can get my car finished by then! Need another
"Care Package" from Poland! Takes 3 months +/-.
BTW, I just learned today that SEBRING INT'L RACEWAY can be
rented by clubs!!!!!!! Perfect wintertime adventure, but I would guess March is booked! Anyone interested???????

How about some Sebring info?
Motorhead, can you get the D.S.C.C. some pricing on Sebring?
If we can afford it, and the club has the "sand" to run with the big dogs,
I'll be willing to drive down to try and set it up.
(We would need the track to furnish insurance with the rental agreement.)
Sebring. That's a WHOLE new type of game. Read, real speed.
Is the DSCC ready for this?

Joe; I'll contact Sebring Mon or Tues for info and post findings.
Track has been rented by area Corvette and Porsche clubs in the past, so there should be some lap times to be shoot for!!!
There are 3 circuits to run, 1.4mi, 1.6mi, and the "Full Monty" 3.6mi
course. ( distances are approx, I'm going by memory). The facility
is now owned by Panoz, and they offer just about anything you
might need to stage an event. I'll get pricing and let you know.

Sebring info...
Here is the link for Sebring (NASA)
http://www.nasaproracing.com/typ_htm...?ObjectID=6098
The Florida site is: http://www.nasafl.org
And the Schedule of events is : http://www.nasafl.org/calendar.htm
I'm not sure of the cost but I remember it somewhere in the $250~$300 range per car for the day / weekend ???
Inman Lanier was one of the instructors and will have more in formation about the track.
I would call Bob Turnage to see what our options were.
Thanks,
Ed

Thanks, Ed!
I'll be honest with you Ed, we had a hard time filling up our last event
charging 100-150 per driver, do you think we have enough DSCC members
that will belly up to the bar for 100-150 more than that? I'd like to give it a
shot...I guess we'll just have to throw out the bait and see who bites.
By the time you factor in 2 nights in a hotel, you're looking at a 500.00
week-end. That's gonna be tough for some of our more budget minded
members. Oh what the heck....I'll live on PBJ sandwiches for the rest of the
month!
Please don't forget to ask if these track rates include track insurance.
And thanks for all of the help!

Sebring....
Joe,
I have to call Inman this week about a few things so I'll include Sebring as one of the topics.
I remember bowing out of the June event this year due to low funds....
Yep, you hit the nail on the head when it comes to cost. Add in hotel, food and track cost and you are talking $500~&600 clams.
But hey, it's Sebring !!!
For the money, we have to balance the cost -vs- thrill.
If we are looking at slow speeds and instruction, it may not be worth it. I had a blast at Gainesville and the speeds were enjoyable. Brakes kept me from enjoying it further, but I'll have that fixed for February.
Like I said, I'll check with Inman and see what we can come up with. There are other options we haven't even considered yet. Moroso comes to mind.....
Now is the time of year that us FLorida guys need to get out and enjoy our cars. The summer heat has kept our beloved snakes in the garage and I'm ready to start to enjoy the great weather that is around the corner.
As for the Flash Thrash and Dash, I'm going to talk to John Phillips and see if we can host something on this side of the state.
the Fair Grounds here in Tampa have a nice surface to race on and we could plan something there for the weekend.
I did an SCCA event there and they love us Cobra guys.
I'm sure they would be willing to set something up for us.
Last year we had rental cars tearing up the track at Palm Bay.
What a sight that was.....
I'll contact John and the SCCA to see what is available for Feb March time frame.
I'll get back with you as soon as I know something about Sebring.

As usual, you're on the money.
Ed, please let the local ffrogs know about our Gainesville Track event. We
need 500.00 bucks just to "hard reserve" the track. That means a minimum of
10 drivers have to sign up just for the deposit. Right now we're just holding a
slot on a verbal agreement...so let's get those folks to send in their $50.00
to Ruble Moore asap.
I agree with you, Florida winter is what Cobra owners live for. I would like
to see the DSCC run at least one track event every other month. Perhaps
once the membership reaches "critical mass" we can pull that off. If we
could schedule an "affordable" event six times per year, then perhaps the
gang might go for the big ticket run (like Sebring) a couple of times per year.
It's awful nice not to have to be driving at dusk and dawn to keep from
melting in the hot sun. Let's all enjoy it while we can.
Thanks again for all of your "high speed" research!

How many track deposits do we have so far?
Jerry and Ruble, I am curious as to how many Gainesville track deposits
the D.S.C.C. has received so far for our Feb. 2nd track event. ( Let's get those
checks sent in as soon as possible, folks.)

Just found this...
Don't know for sure right now, but if there is still two slots open will try very hard to make sure our original DV and a DV II make it. The track looks great!
Just found their web site, looks like a lot of fun!

REVISED TRACK LAYOUT
After talking to Don Robertson, The Director of gainesville raceway today, we have changed the track layout slightly. Please see new layout at:
http://www.jerryrowley.com/gainesville.html
There is a new turn 3A at the top of the layout and the pit aera is shrunk up a bit. This is for your safety consideration so no one could accidentally get sideways and come into the pits coming out of turn 4, spinning into the infield.
The gate will be locked after 8:30AM and NOONE shall enter the area. There will be NO spectators allowed, only drivers and pit crew. This is because we were a little loose last time and some spectators did get in. We can't be responsible for unauthorized )read untrained/non-working) personnel.
