Jim...I think we'll both be drinking Bud....I know that's what Ed and I drink...and I plan on having AT LEAST one case given to me by that gentleman with the street tires!!!!! I do need to ask a question... can a driver let someone take his turn on the track?? I would figure it would be OK...since instead of driver A driving for 5 laps it would be driver B. If not...somebody please let me know ASAP...since I'll need to reserve another spot. Thanks, dino

could you post the brand and type of tire? Does it carry a DOT designation? Some were running "R" compound tires and they are basically race tires with a few groves in them.
Joe "TECH MAN" Smith where are you.

Dino I'm afraid I have an answer for your question. Each driver has to register and pay. Each driver gets the same number of laps for the day, the poor car just gets a good workout! Jim and his wife both drive and so do Geoff and Roberta in the Vette, and they all pay seperately. We pay the track based on the number of drivers.
If you or anyone is sending any deposits after this weekend, Ruble isn't going so please send them to me. Make the check out to DSCC and send to:
Jerry Rowley 9392 Clarke Ridge Road Foley, AL 36535
At the track all monies are made out to the Gainesville Raceway. We still have some spots open, so if you are coming, get the deposits in now please.
Jerry

Aumore, Avon racing slicks with no tread "for racing purposes only". I am going to the Willis 100. I hope to see you there for sure. I am already signed up. E-mail them your address and they send you an invitation, with permission to sleep on a cot in the garage too, which I should share with Ed in all fairness (the garage). I am going to bring a girl for pit crew too.

If your car is street legal, you can run. It's that simple. FL state law
outlaws straight slicks for street use, as do the Gainesville track rules.
(Except on the Dragstrip, of course!)
If you have tread (of some type) your tires are legal. Mufflers are required
by the track management. Type is not specified. Many of the Cobras are
running baffled sidepipes here, we've had no trouble with the track
management so far.
A word of warning. We had two cars we let "slide" on tech last time.
Due to the expected heat, and the fact that we had a Cobra "puke" on
the track last event, if you don't have an overflow (puke) tank on your
car, you're done. Gainesville is a good deal for all of us, and I for one
don't want to see us banned like the local Viper club was. I'm not trying
to be a hard nose, but it is getting VERY difficult and expensive to secure
track time....any type of track time. I've visited over half a dozen tracks
in the South and most won't even talk to us, or are priced beyond any
type of reality. Let's take care of what we've got. PLEASE. Let's be safe,
play by the rules, and have fun!

Thanks Joe.
I know I can speak for Jim Pomroy and myself...
Gainesville is awesome.
We wont do anything to lose this play pen.
We love to run here and will continue to do so at every opportunity.

Speaking of Tires
Last time I had a flat tire, I pulled my Cobra into one of those
side-of-the-road gas stations. The attendant walks out, looks at my Cobra,
looks at me, and I SWEAR he said, "Tire go flat?"
I couldn't resist. I said, "Nope. I was driving around and those other three
just swelled right up on me."

O.K., so I can't come.I apologize if I upset Mr. Joe Smith, but I did not understand rules on tires.I am not a lawyer. I do not live in Florida. In Georgia the cops run race tires on their cars sometimes, especially in Dawsonville. At least now somebody else gets to win (I am joking )! I'm glad to know before I drove all the way to gainsville with tires not marked "D.O.T."
Cobradad that is a funny story. Good bye fellows, maybe I see you at the Willis July 3rd, where race tires are O.K., O.K.?
By the way, i had a person puke in my car one time at Road Atlanta. I looked over just as they started and slapped their face mask shut. It was terrible for both of us, but especially him. We argued about it the whole way home. It was a rental helmet, #9 I think. Keep away from that one for sure.

Spyderman, you did not upset me at all. You might want to check the first
post of this rather long thread, there is a link to the DSCC safety inspection
track list. You are welcome at any DSCC event in the future, and I'm sorry
if we don't see you this time.
As far as puke goes, I'm refering to a "boil over" not too much lunch for the
driver.....
Cheerio, Joe Smith

Would anyone like to add Rich to their pit crew so that we can put him to
work? I've already got a crew. Let's help this guy if we can!

Gainesville Event Weather Forcast
FRIDAY:
Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms
in the afternoon. Highs around 90. Chance of rain 40 percent.
SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY:
Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon
and evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 70. Highs around
90.
The weather forcast says we have at least a 60% chance of good weather, take plenty of cool drinks, 90 is plenty hot.

Read it and weep.
I am trying to be polite about this, but after several more e-mails about
guys who intend to "just show up at the track on Saturday morning" here
it comes.... ONE MORE TIME:
The Friday night, 9pm Hampton Inn Tech inspection is MANDATORY
for all drivers. It took us almost 90 minutes last time for tech,
payment, waivers, and drivers briefs. That's 90 minutes that would be
subtracted from your COOL, early morning, track time. I'm sorry, but
with the noon temps here at 95 f, and 80% humidity, that's not fair, and
unacceptable to all of the drivers that have played by the rules.
If you don't make tech, YOU DON'T DRIVE. PERIOD.
I have made an expection for track workers who intend to show up at
the Hampton at 6am on Saturday morning. But you MUST be paired
on a track vehicle, and ONLY as non-driving crew member.
I'm not trying to be a hard nose, but we have a system. It works.
Let's stick with it. Please. It is a lot of work to set these thing up.

I'm not worried about the weather.
Depending on whos site you visit, the forecast changes.
I'm betting on a cloudy day with a chance of an evening shower.
We will be finished racing by then....
Bring rain gear for your Cobra in the evening.
I've got Tom Jones coming up on Saturday as my pit crew and Chester Littlefield also from Tampa is interested in the FFR Cobra.
He will be joining my pit crew and taking mental notes for his build. Chester and his wife will be arriving Saturday evening and sttending the drivers meeting prior to the race.
I'm looking forward to this event.
Rich, you are more than welcome to join us.
We can always use some track workers...
See you all there.
Ed

Friday night dinner at 7:15pm, Outback Steakhouse, Gainesville
I have made the group the usual reservation at the Outback Steakhouse
located in the mall right down the street, just east of I-75. The caravan will
leave the Hampton Lobby at 7pm. If you want to meet us there, it's about
a mile east of the hotel, Butler Plaza, next to Lowe's, on the left. The Outback's phone number is: 352-373-9499. Our reservation is in my name / Deep South Cobra Club. The Outback said they might not be able to seat us right away, but would do their best....
