Great Drives of the South
Hey, let's start posting some of the great drives and roads in our area. Be good for the state get togethers and some improptu cruising. I ran across this site today referenced from cobraforum:
http://www.tailofthedragon.com/
It's got a bunch of good drives and associated maps for NC. What else you got?

Good idea Jason. That Cherohola or Overland Skyway they mention on that site is an unbelievable drive. That is the one I was telling you about at the DSCC meet. We have got to make that trip with a group of Cobras sometime this summer.

I'm the one that posted the Tail of the Dragon link. I am planning on driving it the Monday after the Spring Fling. Anyone else like to join me?

Jason - Excellent topic for a thread! I'll keep an eye on this and maybe help plan a cruise. We can chat about it this weekend at the DD cruise.

Keith, I just looked at that Tail Of The Dragon site. Wow, what a road! Reminds me of a few I've taken in Southern Cal. How about putting together a DSCC road rally through there during a good weather month? We could have two groups, a slow group and a f"fast group" (for those that like to lve dangerously).
Make it where we stay up in those mountains in some cabins. This would make a great weekend drive.
For anyone in Sothern Cal, if you haven't done Tuna Canyon, you haven't lived. Another real fine run is up to the Ski Lodge going up Angeles Creat Hwy, then right towards the lodge. We used to average 87mph coming down the 27 miles back to the main road in town. This was in Austin Healy Bugeyed Sprites. Try that in your Cobra! We "killed" a Vette that tryed to follow me one night. Some kids stole their dad's Vette and had to leave it on the mountain in pieces. Fortunately, they were OK till they got home.
If you really want to live dangerously, try the dirt part of Mullholland Drive, or better yet, Decker Canyon from Mullholland down to the beach. Many a good driver has "lost it" on Decker, but it's a great drive if your good.

I've emailed the webmasters of that site for some additional information. Let's see... I better make a separate thread for this...

Hwy 52 from Chatsworth to Elijay is, or can be, a vigorous drive up and over Fort Mountain and into Elijay. Very twisty, scenic and with all the elevation changes you would expect. Not patrolled heavily. I have traversed this 25 mile distance in both a nissan Stanza and a 93 RX7. Fun both ways. Yet they both lacked the audio a Cobra would afford. One day I will return.
Some Divine help is needed on this run as someone is always hauling their camper on these swithbacks. There are room for turnoffs but none of these camper/minivan types ever consider the context of "hmmm, there is a red sportscar behind me who came out of nowhere and there are very curvy roads ahead, how about that Ethel?"
