I finally installed my Webers!!!!
Hi Guys,
I finally got around to installing the Weber IDF system I picked up about a year ago from Hersh (BT Snake). Go to my photo gallery folder and let me know what you think. Everything I've ever read or heard about Webers (the good stuff) is absolutely true. These things are the "Swiss Watch" of carburetors!! They are very sensitive to minute tuning changes and easier to synchronize than I would have believed. As good as my car ran with the Holley, it now starts, idles, revs and roars like never before..... ....and they don't look too shabby either.....

Mike,
I'm glad you finally got those babies on. When I look
at the pictures, it looks just like my engine compartment
did when I had them. You know, the mileage ain't bad
with those either. Keep those tea strainers clean too.
they get dirty fast. Maybe not in Florida but out here
the dust is constsant.
Good luck with them . I happy that they are what you expected.
Hersh
PS...I liked the GT40s you have in your gallery. Is
that the real #7 MarkI ?

Thanks Hersh....
I'm only running the screens temporarily, most of the time I'll be using the K&Ns.
Yes, that was the real #7 Mark I car, it was at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in March. Simply beautiful.

Mike, those babies are beautiful! Wow, i wonder if I could get more than 10mpg with a set of those Webers? Hummmm! I'll put those on my wish list.
See you in a week and a half at the track!

Thanks guys....
Jerry, I doubt you get more than 10mpg with that big old BB, no matter what you use for induction.....
Seriously though, it's my understanding that the Webers are supposed to be more efficient than a 4bbl, if they're set up correctly and if you can keep your foot out of them.....
It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it to G'ville this time around. I didn't know if would be able to get the car up and running in time, so I didn't make arrangements to come. You can bet I'll make the next one for sure......

Man ! That is what I want to look like when I grow up! Beautiful work! Looking at your pics gave me an idea. I can't get my alternator on because of my passenger side H2O pump. The Alternator bracket is on the lower part. I noticed that your adjustment bracket is on the top. Who says you can't flip it over?
Regards,

Mike,
I have been told that to make Webers work properly you need to set the baseline advance way the hell up around 25 degrees btdc, and then cut the centrifical advance way down so that total advance stays at around 38 degrees. Did you find this to be the case?

Thanks ren man. You're right, no reason you can't flip it around.
Ed, that's exactly right. Mickey Lauria (Inglese) told me to set the initial advance as far as it would go and still be able to start the car. I have a Mallory Unilite distributor with about 24 degrees of mechanical advance and with plenty of initial advance, I'm getting 38 degrees total (36 - 38 is recommended) with no pinging or difficulty starting whatsoever.
Thanks Keith, I had to do something to keep you BB guys from having all the fun....

Mike,
Nice look, Do you have August 10th open so you can drive down to my Cobra Bash? I would like to see those webers up close. To beat the big blocks I think you should keep your eyes open for a supercharger. and mybe nitrious. No one has taken me up on my extra bedroom for the bash as of yet. I just met three more Cobra owners that live in Fort Myers, and are now members of our club. A guy called me the other night who is going to open a SPF dealership in southern, Florida. He wants to bring over a Superformace to the Bash. Come on down and see more of Florida.

You can count on me Dan!!
You can pencil me in for that spare bedroom.....what time is breakfast going to be ready? Oh, and tell Jean I like my eggs over easy...... (just kidding )
I'm not worried about the BBs, I can drive my car for many hours without overheating or breaking down.....
Good job signing up the new guys!! You're really earning your pay as club president...
As GatorSnake points out, the el cheapo digital camera I borrowed to take the pictures really don't do justice to the setup. I'll be all too happy to show up in August to show the Webers off in person!!!
BTW, GatorSnake, you can send me your camera, but I'm not going to send you the Webers. How about an old Holley?......

Mike,
Ed Kamptner (Engineer Ed) is staying over in a motel, Ed is bringing his lovely wife. We were planning on having the coffee pot on by 8AM on Saturday morning. Come on down on Friday, I have you down on my list.
I also signed a few other guys as members but they are not from Florida. You can see Alan has a similar induction system on his car as yours.
Engine Details: Car is fitted with NOS SOHC 427 fitted with custom made 4 Weber carb system. Engine came in crate with dyno tag from 1967 at 629HP with a single Holley carb. Power now is estimated at 800HP. This car is the only Shelby American product ever to be delivered from SA with the SOHC engine.

Mike,
Alan is from Shreveport, LA., I don't think he will be able to make it. I told him I would like to take a ride in his Cobra. With 800HP that thing should fly. and you thought you had traction problems. I have to have 10 guys with Cobras show up at my house to get Jerry to BUY dinner. He has some coupons in his wallet, that he is willing to part with. Personally I hope he has some money to go with the coupons.

I told Jerry it had to be lobster tail and steak. He suggested Burger King We have a new Out Back Steak in the Cape but the one in Fort Myers during season does more business than any Out Back in the country. I think I have to go to Foley Alabama for this FREE dinner, thats why it better be STEAK If you make it in on Friday I'll take you to Bubbas Steak House, where you throw the peanut shells on the floor.
