Thumbs up CobraDans Cobra Bash Success Story

The Florida weather held out for three straight days with no rain in Cape Coral. The only rain victim was Mike Iodice from St Augustine. Mike was coming in on Friday and he said it stormed all day. Cobra Dan’s Cobra Bash was a great family get together. We had most of the guys arriving with their wife’s and Ed Kamptner’s son had to be pried from my pool, I think there were more than 50 people total. Jerry Rowley, go out in the garage and get a hammer it’s time to bust open your piggy bank you owe me a dinner. We had 18 Cobras, one Mustang Cobra 2003, and one Corvette in attendance. I signed up two more members, and both were proud owners of Backdraft Racings new Cobra. We had one Cobra with a SOHC Ford engine putting out 700HP that would have won the award for being the loudest. I didn’t get to sign him up and make him the 300th member of our club. He does live in Fort Myers and I will sign him soon. He told me that next time he would bring his real GT40, Ed would you like to run down for that get together? I didn’t find time to take any pictures but I had Jim O’Brien take pictures of all the cars for me. We had some pictures taken by the News-Press and were interviewed for an article for the local paper. I met with people in our club I consider old friends and we all met new people and members. Bringing along the wife’s and kids kept the four letter words to a minimum and really made this a family affair. I discussed a family weekend at one of the smaller theme parks in Florida, mainly incase of rain and also keeping our club family orientated. Our meeting was cut short by the arrival of the News-Press. I will pursue the theme park to see if they would be interested in having such a fun group. If the theme park works out I would like to know if we have any interest from are 8 states or should we keep this for Florida only. Ed Kamptner passed out all the info on our next outing the Reptile RoundUp, November 15-16-17, 2002. Please follow Ed’s post, and post your self so we get the memberships views. I know Joe Smith wanted to say a few words about the next Gainesville event and I’m sorry we got cut short and never got back to the BS session. Watch for both Joe and Ed keeping you up dated on our clubs events. At this time I want to thank everyone for coming and making this event another success.
Dan

While cleaning I found a Camera Tripod that someone left behind, please contact me so we can get you your tripod. I found and scanned the small but unexpected article on our bash and emailed it to as many that were in attendance as I could. See you and many more at the next outting.

Jim I'm glad to see you all made it home safely.

Dan sorry I couldn't be there, sounded like ablast. I would love to see some pictures though. I had to clean up the back yard from a possum that made my grill and patio a new home. I will definately be at the Reptile Roundup. David

davidg,
This was the weekend for Cobras you can always play with possums. When you have 3 days in a row without rain in the rainy season you have to go Cobra and forego Possums. Ed has 1.5 acres at his new home in Lutz, and we would like to see all the Florida Cobras at the Reptile Roundup. I know to get Jerry to buy Ed dinner he would have to come up with a minimum count of 30 Cobras in attendance. Maybe I should ask Jerry and find out if he has more than one piggy bank. You will never meet this great group if you stay at home. It's raining here as I type Cobra season is over now I'll go after that damn possum.

Joe,
I'm glad you made it, you helped me get that steak dinner from Jerry. He has already sent me an email saying that the news paper article verified my win. See you all in Lutz.

Ed,
Thanks for that nice picture you posted but Jerry Rowley has aready succeded he owes me dinner. We're shooting for a minium of 30 Cobras for Novembers outting(I'll try and get a dinner for you but you will have to go to Foley, AL.). I just added a few more members names to our membership roster and they are all from Florida. We stand at 301 membership
Thanks to everyone that attended because coming in the rainy season makes it harder. NO RAIN for 3 days in a row in the Cape

Dan

Thanks for the food and drink.

Sorry I got there so late and could only meet a few of the Deep South members.

Hopefully, at the next event my Cobra will be completed. I will be there if I am not out of town at a tennis tournament./

I'm glad you found our offical site and make sure you come back and join in. We need input from everyone and not just readers. We had to plan on getting together early in the rainy season. With the posts here and the emails still coming in I'm glad everyone had a good time I'm HAPPY. Let's make Ed's day and all show up in force in November. I found the owner of the tripod (This means I already have a house warming gift for November)and I guess I should be glad he didn't forget his son. Although I think he was much better trained than dad. I'm already working on the Theme Park weekend, waiting to hear from Tracy.

Engineer Ed

You can put me down for the November 15th, 16th and 17th.

I probably will not have my Cobra but I can bring along a Carrera 4S. It is new (2500 miles) and have not driven it hard yet. I should be ready by November.

Default Enough Already!

Dan, I'll buy both you and Jean a steak dinner next time I see you regardless of where it may be, or when. So stop with the digs! No more damn dinners for others now, cut that out! All kidding aside, I'm glad your Bash was a good turnout and it sounds like everyone had fun. I talked to Joe and he said he enjoyed it a bunch.

Ed, I wish I could come to your bash, but, I'm going to have to make two trips to Florida already between now and Thanksgiving. We have relatives in Fort Lauderdale to see in October and we are going to the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona at Thanksgiving week with the Unique gang. I can't afford the dog sitter for any more trips this year!

Joe, I hope I can make the next Track Day in Janruary, if I break in my new motor by then, I will. I will not race again until I put 1000 miles on the new engine and change to the synthetic oil. That might have stopped my problem of running in 135 deg heat with regular oil. The oil temp hit 245 after only 10 laps at Roebling Road! That certainly contributed to the oil pump shaft breaking as I'm sure it grew in size.

Jerry,
If I can't pick on you who will? I'm leaving in 3 weeks for a couple of weeks vacation in Cape Cod to visit friends before winter hits. Then in November I have a trip to Lutz, Fl. and maybe I might come to the Turkey run to see the other 4,000 cars I missed last year when my legs gave out. If I make it to Turkey run I know it will be a little cheaper than last year since dinner could be on you. The first smilie is you and the second smilie is me. Any questions.
Dan

If it's from one of those hotdog carts run by a thong bikinni clad young well built lady, like they have in Florida your on. I may even forgo the hotdog. Did you find any reliabile wheels to wonder the grounds of Daytona Speedway so we can actually make it to this hotdog stand? For the Cobra Bash my buddy wanted me to get the local gal with her hotdog stand to serve the food(would the attendance double maybe?). I had to soak my feet in ice water for a week last year and I was only there on Saturday. If I get the guy in Fort Myers to bring his real GT40 to Ed's party he will have to buy me dinner.

Actually, I am still looking for a "vehicle" to get around those darn shows! Dan, Jean told me you're too old for bikinis! Oh well, I guess we can still look at them anyway, right? I have been looking for a rechargable scooter and only found them at very high prices, like, would you believe $800 for one like I bought at Sams that didn't work? $300 is my limit so I may come up empty. At the Street Rod Nationals we met a "big guy" (around 450lbs) that bought a used electric scooter for $150 at a garage sale,t hat's about my speed. Maybe I should put an ad in the paper? maybe YOU should put the ad in down there in LOWER Florida where all those OLD FOLKS live?

Jerry
