Default Gainesville track update

Greetings.
Just a reminder about the Gainesville Track date for April 19th.
As you hopefully are aware, we have made a change of hotels for this next event.
We will be staying at the Ramada Limited.
4021 SW 40th Blvd
(800) 717-3279
The hotel is just North (1/8 mile) of the Hampton Inn that we normally stay at.

Please contact the guys in your area to organize your convoys.
Anyone entering the track must be present at the Drivers meeting at 9:00 Friday night.
This includes all drivers, alternates, pit crew members and workers.

Please have your $50.00 cash or check available to pay the remainder of the track fee.
Friday night ee will be meeting in the hotel lobby at 6:30 to go to dinner as a group.
I believe Steak and Ale has been suggested. We have finally had enough of Outback!
Please let me know if you plan on going to dinner so I can make appropriate reservations.
The drivers meeting will take place in the Hotels conference room.
Tech inspections will take place in teh hotel parking lot friday afternoon - night.
A second "quick" tech inspection on all cars before first timed lap.

WE WILL NOT BE STOPPING THE EVENT TO EAT LUNCH.
You are responsible for bringing your own drinks and plenty of fluids to eat /drink at the track.
If you own a tarp or mobile shelter, please bring it since there is no place to get out of the sun.
We expect it to be sunny and hot, not rainy!

Please be sure that your car is prepared for the event.
If you have any questions pertaining to the basic tech requirements, please feel free to contact me.

Here is a list of the safety requirements:
All open cars must have a functional roll bar bolted or welded to the frame of the vehicle.
Good tires, no cord or fabric visible. Suitable tread remaining, (unless factory issued slicks).
No loose parts. Spinners must be safety wired or (non functional type) removed.
No leaking fuel, oil, or fluids or excesive smoke from exhaust.
At least one working brake light.
Seat belt OR harness in good condition with no tears, cuts, or excessive fraying wear.
Brakes must be in good working order with full pedal. Please ensure your brake pedal will not pull from master cylinder.
Helmet(full or open face, Snell approved 95 or later) with either faceshield, glasses, or goggles, long sleeved shirt, long pants, and shoes (no sandals) required for all events.
Battery must be secured in safe manner that does not allow for movement.
Windshield / Windsceen must not be cracked or damaged.
Car must be equipped with at least ONE operable fire extinguisher properly and permanently mounted. We havent really enforced this rule in the past but in light of previous emergencies I feel we really should make this a requirement.
This is for your safety and we highly recommend you install a fire extinguisher!

This is an agressive track and we recommend using upgraded brake fluid and pads for this event. You will need them, trust me. The Track authority is concerned about our safety and additional turns will be added at this event requiring heavier demand of your brake system.

For the first time we will be using an Electric/pneumatic timing system.
This system measures time accurately to .001 of a second.
Two cars can be simultaniously timed with this new system.
I will be donating this system to the DSCC for all future events.
I want to thank John Booth for his time in helping me write code for this device and helping me develop this timer.
If you have a manual timer, please bring it in case we run into technical problems (Murphy's law!)
I dont expect problems but you never know....

I look forward to seeing you all Friday night at the drivers meeting.
9:00 pm in the conference room at the hotel.

You can view a photo of the track here:
http://www.gainesvilleraceway.com/test_track.html

Saturday night we will also be going to dinner at an Italian restaurant. (Approx 6:30-7:00).
Please make plans to attend to celebrate the days events and honor the top drivers.

I will be in the hotel lobby Friday at 2:00.
I request some help in setting up the track Friday afternoon.
Please contact me if you are available to help.
My cell # is: (813) 765-3769

Does the addition of a timing system affectivly change our event from a "test track" to a "race" for insurance considerations?

Do the folks at Gainesville Raceway have a problem with this?

The way I see it, it is just an improved timing system from what we had previously been using.
We have always kept time of our laps. Now we just have a more accurate way of keeping times.

Default South Fla. Convoy

Flanker, John Phillips, and ALL others;
Let's start making some plans for our convoy or as I call it, "safari." I assume we will all be using the turnpike, so I suggest that we all meet at the Stuart / Port St. Lucie Oasis. I will be getting on at Boynton Beach, and I'm sure John Phillips will be using the Jupiter entrance. I'll be pulling my new enclosed trailer, so no new land speed records are in my plans. Others along the way are welcome to join in as far as I'm concerened.
Your suggestions or comments are welcome.
I will gladly take the lead on this.
Your cell phone #'s for contact on the road would be a great help

Hi Terry
We've got to plan the departure. I'll either call you or e-mail the final dep. time from Miami and the meeting place near you.
My cell # is 786-367-0297
So far, only Flanker and I are going from SF.
