John

Is this the correct car?

here is a smaller version

Is this car running in group 1? If so can I get a 10 lap head start and I will need some ben gay for my sore arm from waiving him past.

at 100 mph that car has 10,000 lbs. of downforce, and will stick to the ceiling of a windtunnel . I read about it. I might not win this thing...

10,000# of downforce? You would need a bazillion HP to keep it at speed. The Pinto probably has negative 200# of downforce so its 98HP 4 banger will prevail. Besides the pinto looks faster than your average Lola.

Spydee, with 10,000 lbs of downforce, shouldn't it be sticking to the ground instead of the ceiling?? Just kidding. aumoore, great pics!! You have one of the back with the bumper sticker saying "CAUTION: Vehicles following too closely subject to Wake Turbulence"??

No, that is 1000 lb.s of down force and it won't stick to the ceiling since it weighs 1600 lbs. and you would be a total moron to try it anyway. Of all the cool things to do with that car, only spydee would try to stick it a ceiling.
The big problem with this car is the noise it puts out. A custom "roebling road" exhaust is being fabricated to point the sound away from the DB moniter at the track. I hope it works or it will only make a few laps before they make it go away.

DB monitor??? You mean I have to put mufflers on my Cobra? That would suck if my big old 302 exceeds the sound limit. Maybe I could take off all the spark plugs on the side of the car facing the DB monitor. No can't do that or aging gracefully will whip my but as I will be running a 2.5L vs his 3.0L.

Aumore--

Good plan, and we should be about even--I have 2.5 litres, you weigh less but the uneven power pulses should just about make it a race.

One thing, though Johan is right about the DB meter. Depending upon the weather, some cobras would not pass. I shggest that if your cars are particularly loud, like my FIA was, that you bring some flex exhaust tubing and clamps/safety wire so you can turn down the driver's side pipe Roebling has a new metering system in place since last January and it has been a problem at Porsche events. The neighbors are getting a bit touchy, so the track is taking no chances. Turning pipes toward the inside of the track has allowed all but the loudest to run. Other solutions involve the use of super-trap type muflers.

Johan- glad that you mentioned this as several cazrs at the last event were put back on the trailers due to noise issues.

Roebling is EXTRA sensitive to noise. I love this crap.

1. Buy house next to race track/airport, which is in back yard.
2. Complain about noise in back yard to local politicians who need reason to exist.
2a. Meeting held, no racers/pilots show. Votes cast.
3. Racers, pilots lose.

WAKE UP FOLKS!!!! Gotta protect our rights as well.

My car is pretty loud like most Cobras but not too loud. Where do I find flex exhaust tube big enough to go over my pipes.

Toycollector
I agree that people who move next to loud facilities(airports, race tracks, concert facilities, ball fields, military bombing ranges, my garage) are stupid. If they do not like the noise why did they move there in the first place? There is a commercial where the father says he should have got a better real estate agent and the son says why and then a big jet rumbles just overhead. There are laws to protect you from that called disclosure laws. The owner and agent must tell you of any problems and if there is excessive noise and they do not tell you then sue the owner and agent. Don't ***** to the local politicians unless you were there before the offending facility was built.

Picture a spatula "egg flipper", and now picture using hose clamps to put a "noise shield " over the left side side pipe..I have some non combustable padding if anybody needs any. The biggest issue is that we don't litter the straight with a bunch of home made noise reducing contraptions that fell off.
Some sort of shield or downturn is what we are talking about. 104db is the limit. The Cup Car is 109 db WITH mufflers, so we had to have a special "right side" cup car exhaust made (they are all left side as the right side would scrape going counter clockwise around banked track). This is probably going to knock all the cup cars out of the event except mine, Woodruffs, and Feltons. Hence no others are listed except Ed Bulls, and he is working on a noise shield.
I have no I desa what can be done about the Lolas. They are just too loud. Last year as we ran them a group gathered at the gate and fortunately, they were not complaining and were just watching.

John
Can I use the plastic flapper as my wife has a lot of them What is this Non Combustable Padding??? Since we are talking kitchen utensils maybe we could use sos pads. LOL

Maybe we can recruit some large people (you know fat like me) to stand in front of the DB meter and absorb the sound. Or we could just hit it wih a BFH(Big Hammer) and knock it out.

Actually, we want the meter, as it proves we are in compliance with the noise regulations. Without the meter, we would have to shut down the track every time a neighbor complains.
Non combustable = asphestos wadding
There are two more group 3 entries, Bob Z. with the
M&M's cup car and his buddy in a Trans Am ( NO, not the Smoky and the Bandit type, the Tres Rivoirs type) and they are also going to offer driving instruction to people that request it, so if you feel you could use a little help getting started, raise your hand.

Guys, I don't want to sound like I'm backing out or anything, but this group is getting pretty big, and I have some well founded doubts concerning my capabilities as the host to get all this organized. I'm going forward with it of course, but i could use a little help. I'm fine with the afternoon carshow/cookout/beer deal at the beach on June 30th, and am planning a "low country boil" as well as chicken but I'm a little lost as to what to do about the rest of the meals except to keep on having more and more cookouts. I can leave myself in charge if there is no response, OR
Group 1 can arrange a menu for the July 1 lunch at the track, which will be a cookout I'd imagine.
Group 2 can ditto the above for the July 2 lunch
Group 3 can come up with a dinner menu for our post-race trackside dinner.
I have a caterer for the lunches, the track manager, but he "only does chicken", so we can leave it at that, but I hope you like chicken, beans, and corn.
I don't want to put this off on anybody, but can anybody cook ? I absolutely can not cook. What I'm looking for here is some sort of menu ideas so that I can go to the store with a shoping list.
My wife just laughted at me and shook her head when I mentioned this to her.
Any ideas for menus would be appreciated. Otherwise I will get chicken, beer, hamburgers, beer, shrimp, beer, etc.
The problem is that there is no way to keep all the food cold at the track for longer than a few hours.
Was anybody a cook in the Army ?

Johan,
I wasn't a cook in the military, but I've eaten my share of MRE's.
I'm all for keeping it simple. Burgers, beer, dogs, beer, corn, beer, basic cookout stuff. Did I mention beer?
We can also do cold cut sandwiches / subs and such to minimize all the grilling.

Steaks and shrimp are your call. I can bring a gas grill if needed. I'll just plan on cooking while my run group is idle.

Cheers,
Ed

Johan-

Erik and I will help out in whatever way you need. We don't expect to be fed every meal, thats just too much to expect of our host. Subway in Pooler can make up subs if thats easier.

Whatever, I think that all of us can handle a spatula well enough for gumment work.

Did someone say BBQ? I will probably have plenty of time on my hands to cook after I break something on my car or exceed the sound limit on the track.

If you bring it I can cook it.

Maybe we could all bring something so everyone will have someting to eat. Want to make a list.

I agree,
We can all bring something to eat.
You shouldn't be responsible for feeding all of us.
We normally pack a lunch for track dates. We come prepared.

I've got a few coolers to store some food.
