Dave-

I'm almost afraid to ask what you are bringing with three litres--
If its anything like the cobra, it will be top-drawer.

It should be fun for all. Roebling seems to be a great equalizer with tight turns for us high-stick low powered rides and a long straight for the bib boys to make up for it. I can't count the times I've wished for a bottle of nitros when I've had to give up hard-won ground to big horsepower on the straight. No matter how hard I peddle, its all I can do to accelerate another 25 miles an hour between turn nine and turn one. Oh well, its not about being fastest, its about keeping right side up. As long as everything holds together I'll be happy.

Guys if you need a new engine for the Miata or the Vega Chevy is coming out with it this year, specs below:

…AND THE R STANDS FOR RACE

Engineered by GM Performance Parts and GM Racing exclusively for sportsman races, the new ZZ572/720R is built around an all-new Gen VI tall deck Bow Tie cylinder block. This all new race block is filled with a forged 4340 steel crank with 4.375 inch stroke, shot peened forged 4340 H- beam rods, and forged aluminum pistons with full floating wrist pins. Plasma moly piston rings are standard is the screened and louvered windage tray. GM’s first purpose built drag race engine filled with hard core race parts for hard core performance and long term durability.

The redesigned rectangular port aluminum cylinder heads result in a race gas only 12 to 1 compression ratio. A solid roller cam with 0.714 inch lift actuates the stainless steel valves. And, of course, hardened chromemoly retainers, roller rocker arms, and duel valve springs are used to complete the valve train.

A new Gm tall deck single plane intake manifold and 1095 CFM King Demon carburetor deliver enough air and fuel to make the 720 horsepower at 6250 RPM. Ignition is handled by a multiple spark discharge ignition. And an SFI approved torsional damper is installed at the factory. Out of the crate and into your racecar – it’s that simple.

Race gas fueled, high revving horsepower, all from GM, the ZZ572/720R is the engine that will get you down the track consistently, pass after pass, season after season.

It's called COPY then PASTE. I was thinking it would be a great engine to replace the 454 in my Cobra, if I only knew which gas stations carried race gas.

You said you did not like to race so why a race motor that requires race gas? That motor would suck in a Cobra as it would not be real streetable. That is why you do not see to many NASCAR spec small blocks in Cobras. They Idle at about 2500 and get about 4mpg on race fuel. In a car that weighs less than 2500# you cannot use over about 400hp on street tires. Your Cobra weighs more like 3000# so it might could use about 500hp but not much more unless you just like to shread tires.

I like to race but in a sraight line, one quarter mile at a time. Funny cars have about 6,500HP, now thats approuching to much horse power. I thought before I got my 454 on the road it would be to much HP but now that I have actually driven it, more it needs a lot more. Don't worry I don't think the wife will let me actually buy any more engines from Chevy. With that extra 1,000 lbs. I do need more HP.

Johan,
My wife was reading over my shoulder and read your comments and she thinks we have all been smelling to many gas fumes. My Cobra is about 1,000 lbs. more than FFR Cobras, not the wife. Now sex is out of the question for months I guess it's back out to the garge to smell fumes for me.

There is an approximate list on page 2 of this thread, but it's anybody's guess as to how many will actually show up.
More on Sunday than on Saturday, I would guess. 5-10 cars maybe ? I really like the idea of having 4 track days, almost in a row, with a 1 day breather in the middle. I won't feel rushed for a change.

There wasn't many who didn't show that signed up to attend the Silver Springs Show(Willis and Mom would have enjoyed Silver Springs) and since most are from the Florida part of the Deep South Cobra Club, I think the attendance will be 100%, so don't back off on your beer purchases just yet, as you have to with the Atlanta group.

My wife would rather stick chopsticks in her eyes than hang around any type of discussion about cars, while the baby sat on the hot asphalt de-hydrating , trying to cry.
If nobody showed up, I'd still have fun, plus I would stand a better chance of winning the race. What I would not do is try to make those that chose not to attend feel guilty.
This is the third year for this, and turnout has been light from this forum in the past. Some of those that made it , however, I now count as close friends like Don Crace and Mark Geng.

The first two days, june 28-29, are a POC ( Porsche Owners Club) event and they have been gracious enough to invite our group to share the track with them without having to join POC or even have a Porsche. I believe they are charging $250 for both Days. Details of their event can be found at

but in a nutshell they have a DE ( Drivers Education) format with several groups having different passing rules per group based on experience.
June 30th we are having a "go to the beach" day at Hilton Head Island as we promised our wives,followed by an afternoon cookout in the yard looking at the cars with some refreshments.We'll call it somewhat of an early evening so as to be "bright eyed and bushy tailed" at the track first thing in the morning.
July 1 -2 we are back at the track and DSCC members will be my guests. Same basic format as the POC event, running the same schedule. lunches are provided and the night of July 1st we cookout at the track.
The Holiday Inn (oceanfront) is very convenient to my house and they are not yet booked up. The # is (843) 785-5126. There are plenty of places to stay that are closer to the race track (45 min - 1 hour away from Hilton Head) . Check the Roebling website above. Camping is allowed at the track.
Guys that have been to Gainesville should enjoy this track. Those with no experience whatsoever should contact me so as to know what to expect. Car/Driver preparation is covered on POC website.
The Idea here is to have a fun Fourth of July week at the beach with a little track driving thrown in for good measure. Even in the open passing groups this is not a race, it is a "ride and drive " track event. The corner workers will expel goofballs without hesitation ( Toy Collector ?) and you'll have to sit outside the gate with a dunce cap on till dinner's ready.
Mike ,thanks, I added your numbers and refreshed the post with the link to the POC website. The rest of the guys that have no number will eventually make one out of tape or I'll have some spray paint at the track. I wonder if Enzo at Finish Line sells the stick on meatballs and number sets.
We can make numbers out of masking tape or just scratch them in with a screwdriver, and seriously, we can put them in the upper right hand corner of the windshield with white shoe polish, so the number issue is no big deal. We just need a way to identify the cars by radio .
"Car 58 just barrel rolled up the front straight" etc.
