No property damage? I did my best impression of Fireball Roberts and put a little patina on the bottom of my hood but other than that and a few warped wire loom covers(easy to replace) all that was hurt was my pride.

I have to complemant the track corner workers on their professionalism. No sooner than I had stopped than one of them was at the front of my car shooting about 100 pounds of yellow fire retardant into my hood scoop. After unbuckling and opening the hood he finished the job with what seamed like another 100 pounds of this stuff. All I can say is thanks for his quick work and I will never complaign about pollen on my car again.

One of my experiences at the Walter Mitty races (each spring at Road Atlanta) was seeing a 7 series BMW Sedan with the whole side caved in with red Georgia clay imbedded everywhere: THAT's property damage!

A little flambe' Cobra: rare on the inside-raw on the outside-we were fortunate! Or we all really made our own "luck" by keeping self and crs under control. cb

I hung up my signed Willis race picture holder today and my wife only moved it to a different place once. Thanks to all who signed it.

Well my wife and I have finally gotten back to the normal daily grind after two weeks away from “reality”.

Johan, we really don’t know how to thank you for such a wonderful time we had in Savannah. You by far are one of the nicest people we know and the world is a better place with guys like you in it. What you did goes beyond expression.
Truly an awesome experience.
For those who missed it, I feel sorry for you. Johan really knows how to throw a party.
Please don’t think I’m kissing anyone’s butt here but we had a phenomenal time.
We will be at every future Willis 100 if you so desire our company.

I’m still grinning from the two rides I received in the GT40 and WC McDonalds car.
Memories that will last forever.
What a great time. We are forever indebted.

Sorry this took so long to post but it has been wonderful to be away from a computer for two weeks.

Johan-

We got some footage that I'll have Erik edit and copy for you. I don't know how good it is, but we have some nice shots of the LOLA at spped as well as some of the winston cuppers. It was also fun to have footage of us passing the Cobras (though only as the result of courteous wave-by's with a "lift"). There is also some footage of a squished yellow pinto being driven by a guy dripping in gold chains.

Time to get some real rubber and no more wave bys for Mr. German car driver.

Does anyone have a fireproof engine diper?

I did wonder about the yellow Porsche that stopped a few laps before I pulled my Fireball Roberts impression? Did he have monor problems. I fixed mine with the proper oil sender extension, some wash and wax time on the body and I still need to send quality time under the hood with some Ajax and elbow grease.

What type of tires are you running? I think my motor has about 320flywheel HP and about 335 ft# of torque so If I can keep oil in the motor it might be interesting.

I need a better seat as well.

What does a 944 weigh?? I am hauling around about 2480# without me in the car. Maybe I need to go on a diet before the next Willis 100

I have a little car with only minimal horsepower, but it only weighs 1100 pounds . I'am hoping it does well at Barber.

Last weekend at Roebling Road Raceway, the CARZ event had some great racing and plenty of open track for the Street Stock group. Fastest laps of the weekend were set by Ralph Thomas in his Rotary gtp PROTOTYPE machine (GTP-R). Ralph was turning out consistent 112's with John Woerheide not far behind in his 5-Liter powered Lola T-333 coupe (GP-2). Mike Lynam in the Pinto powered Lola t596/8 was thied in times. Cleve Meredith's clutch gave way in his turbocharged V-6 powered 240-Z (GP-2), as he tried to hang with Ralph and John.
Greg Patrick lead the opening laps of the endurance race in his BMW M3 (S4A), but faulty wheel bearings sidelined Greg. Geoff Smoland in his Mazda Miata (C4C) turned the most laps in the endurance race proving how well consistency pays off.
Dave McKinzie in a Datsun 280-Z (V-2) and Chuck Ellis in his Mercedes 190-E were never more than a second apart as they swapped the lead several times and took first and second, in that order, to top the 12 lap sprint race.

The rumor is you run the same speed around the whole track never lifting because it takes forever for the pinto motor to get up to speed. I know you flat out pass everything in your groupi n the corners.

That car is so low I had to look down at it from a Cobra.

Ruble-

I run 245/45/16 tires (hoosiers) all the way around on both the Porsches. Surprisingly, the 150 horse car weighs in at 2780 dry (class minimum weight) and with me in it ist a BIT more. The 320 horse car weighs in at about 100 lbs heavier due to turbo and complicated plumbing. The non-turbo car is considered a"momemtum" car since once you get it going you do anything possible to stay off the brakes and keep speed up. It accelerates like a glacier. The turbo is a different story with 0-60 in about 5 seconds versus around 10 seconds for the other car.

Lets do it again!

Are the Hoosiers a "R" Compound or a real road course tire?? The Reason I ask is I am thinking of buying a set of road course tires for the Cobra so I can stick with you guys in the turns. The only car I was staying with in the turns was the turbo miata but I think he had similar tires to mine. MIata's are very good handling cars and he had a a bunch more HP than a stock miata.

Get the Kuhmo Victoracers.
Tire rack has them for $153.00 per tire.
There are a lot of discussions about tires on the FFCobra forum.
Basically I did my homework and them went with the Kuhmos.
Great tires.
They recommended getting them shaved but that's up to you.
The Kuhmo tire reps said they would last longer if you got them shaved vs heat cycled or full tread.

I went with full tread and heat cycled them myself.
Went for an hour cruise, put the car up on jacks and then parked them for 24 hours.

That might be the way to go but I am actuall thinking of running a 15" tire. For some strange reason I think a Cobra might like the 15" tires on the track.

Maybe I should sell my 17" Kumhos and get the Victoracers mounted to my wheels and then get a set of 15" Tires for the street on Team III or Whitby covers.

Ed,

I know why your rear tires are worn is't because you were testing your 3-link set up for wheel hop. It had nothing to do with the mocho male ego trying to make black stripe in the pavement. Did it?

Ruble-

I use dot legal r3so3 hoosiers on the Porsches. When we took top honors at cobrafest in 2001 we used 15" Hoosiers and I have had a chance to run slicks, bias race tires, and Victoracers as well.

The Hoosier dots are probably the best overall compromise. They will be a half second quicker around Roebling than the same size Victoracers--thats a bunch. Bias racing tires are too squirmy for most folks, though they seem to wear better and are fast when you are used to them. Pure slicks like goodyears and dunlops are expensive and harder to come by.

I will use Victoracers for drivers ed's because I can get an extra weekend out of them, but if there is some ego involved, I always go with the Hoosiers. You must heat cycle them if you want them to last. The best way is to use them for a 20 minute scrub-in where they get up to heat and then put them away for 48 hours or more. Tire rack heat cycles, but I'm not convinced that it works as well as actually running them on the car. As for shaving, these tires wear pretty fast and while shaving gives you a slightly faster few laps, longevity is really compromised-- Just my thoughts

One added thought-

It is bad ju-ju to use the Hoosier A3s03 autocross tires on a road course. 'These tires won't take the heat and can fail catastrophically under roadrace type conditions.
