ANy Members in South West Florida?
Do we have any members who live Between Sarasota and Marco Island?
I have seriously considered moving back to Florida.Last time I lived there it was Brandon, just outside of Tampa.
This time around I am thinking Venice,Port Charlotte,Punta Gorda,Ft..Meyers,Naples, and Marco Island.
I am looking at the feasibilty of waterfront property.
If I can't afford it, it will be Sebring area.
If any of our members live there and have a Realtor they would recommend, or better yet they themselves are in real estate, I certainly would like to hear from them.
Drop me an email at ate@chevs.com
Thanks.

Turk,
Come on back to Florida. The taxes are a hell of a lot better and the weather is great for driving. As you know we have no hilly roads to zip up and down but you can see for miles and the state does not go up in smoke every year!

Yo Turk,
Can't help you on the W coast of FL.
Now if you're considering the NE coast, let me know. I truly found a wonderful place here
Regards,
Tom

Turk,
We have several members in The Deep South Cobra Club that live over there. CobraDan (DSCC past president) is in Cape Coral -a great guy, but worthless in real estate; but if you want pictures of girls, that's another story. Also, Eng. Ed (current president) is just north of Tampa. There are many really active members from the west coast in our club that should be able to connect you with some capable realtor. My son is one, but over on the East coast. Have you considered the Stuart, Vero Beach area. Just came back from Sebring - pretty, but hot in the summer; it's also not bad if you like watching the oranges grow. The good news is that it is home of "Sebring International Raceway" facility. I have several friends in that area.
I suggest you take this thread or something like it, and post on the DSCC forum here on CC, so that our members will be more apt to see it. We are a good group of guys that are willing to help each other. There is also another Deep South Cobra Club web site you might try posting on. It is fairly new, but the real active guys are on it. I think there is a link on the CC forum to it.
Anything I can do to help - is only a phone call or email away. Seriously, don't be afraid to ask.
It's lonely being one of the only "Gasholes" down here.
I also have numerous friends that have auto dealerships, for what ever that's worth. You are looking for a position as an "Expert FE mechanic" aren't you. :
Keep in touch.

Terry, Thanks. I will send you an email soon. As for posting this on DSCC. I thought That is what I did. What am I missing?
If any of your friends thought I might be coming to town and possibly looking to be employed as an "auto mechanic" they may close their doors before I get there, just so they won't have to deal with my skills. I am THAT good.
Other than the technician position, there is very little I can't do and do well around a medium to large dealership.
If I am missing the location of the proper posting place, feel free to post any of this anywhere you like.
Thanks
TURK

Turk, if you move down to Florida I will come down to Indian Rocks Beach(my wife grew up there) and buy you a Stone Crab dinner at PJ's(a hole in the wall joint). My brother in law is a builder/developer(small water front condo projects) in the Tampa/St. Pete area, and my Father in law is a retired R.E. Broker in Ocala, if no one else steps up, I'll get you hooked up with an agent(figured you would prefer a direct referal instead of a twice removed referal).

Turk, when did you live in Brandon? I lived there from '65 to '79. Graduated Brandon High (the old one) and a little time at USF.

Turk,
If you had chosen Cape Coral back only 3 years ago you could have had water front property at a reasonable price. It is still the only place left in town with water front properties and that's why it is the fastest growing city in Lee County. My buddies mother is in real estate here in Cape Coral. You have chosen well as you should always go below Tampa if you don't want winter as we are usually 10 to 15 degrees warmer in winter. I'll be at DVSFIV if you would like to talk about Cape Coral, Fl.

CobraDan is right. Property prices in Southwest Fla. have quadrupled in the last 3 yrs. Not just waterfront. Every tomoto/orange grove within 6 miles of Apollo Beach (below Brandon) has bulldozers on it (only way to build in some communities is buy the house & lot and tear the house down). BTW, watch out "waterfront" is now described as something on a mile long 6' canel to the actual waterfront.
I have a lot near Venice Beach that I was offered $2,000 for last June and $18,000 2 weeks ago (6 miles from waterfront). The other "thing" is flood insurance (higher than property tax) unless your property is 12' or higher than mean average tide (or something to that effect). But, of course, you can drive that Cobra (w/o a heater or wearing long johns) almost all year rather than 1/2 yr. And, drive it like you want 1/2 yr. 'cause everybody goes back to Quebec from May until Thanksgiving.

Thanks guys,
I have been doing a little homework on the Internet. I must say, I am shocked at the prices!!!
Having lived in Florida at two different times and left in 1992 when the real estate was incredibly depressed, it is tough for me to look at some of the prices and like what I see.
Tampa,
I got a pretty good feel for some of those so called "Water Front" properties when I was living in Florida. Gulf access meant, you can get there eventually. Driving past 500 homes at NO WAKE SPEED could take hours to get to open water. I was hoping for something a little more accessible and seems to do so now would require big bucks. May have to rethink that water front thing again.
Driving the Cobra where I live now is about as good as it gets. No afternoon showers, not much heat, no humidity. When I was riding my bike in Florida I found out rather quickly, Florida is NOT the best place for converyibles and bikes.
CobraDan,
I am beginning to realize that enough to kick myself. Lots that were offered at $30,000 few years back are now $150,000 and up.There was a time in the early 90's Cape Coral had serious problems. Parts of it looked like a ghost town. Unfortunately I won't be doing the DVSF this year.
Tony,
Last time it was 1989 to 1992.
SJ,
Thanks. No condos yet. Maybe when I grow up a little more.
If I decide Waterfront is too rich for my blood, I am thinking Sebring area. Ocala is nice tooo, if you like horses. I like horses but don't love them enough to have them.
TC,
I understand Marco is nice in a RV.

Well if you like rednecks and can stand a little cold weather the panhandle is a beautiful place with somewhat reasonable pricing on land. I live near Pensacola and all I can say is there are no beaches that compare in beauty to the NW Florida area. The sand could pass for sugar and we don't attract too many Yankee's yet (sorry Dan but You are ok as far as Yankee's go).
Hum? A Turk in the "redneck Riviera" now that would be interesting

They went up AGAIN?
Aumore, You have no idea how close I came to relocating to Panama City Beach? My father in law had a home that got sold recently when he moved into a nursing home.
Right on the water and everything. I remember the beaches well!!
Only problem I didn't want to live in South Georgia.
Job market was not promising enough for me for what I do, so I have to settle at some other population canter.
I miss the area already..

Turk
I live in Lake Placid, about 13 miles south of Sebring.
As a Florida native, born in Hogtown (Gainesville) raised in WPB, I love central Florida. All the coastal snowbirds can make their cracks about nothin but cows and oranges in the middle of the state, but that's just the way we like it. Unfortunatley, this area is growing fast too and prices have doubled on lakefront lots in the past year. All the folks sick of the crowds on the coasts are buying vacation homes and retiring to this area.
If you're not going to spend alot of time at the beach, why put up with the crowds and high prices? Central Florida is just as warm as the coast and 100 miles from hurricane landfall. Sure it may be 3-4 degrees hotter in the middle of summer without the seabreeze, but you'll probably be in the AC anyway, just turn it up a notch.
A bonus of the Sebring area is that you are a two hour drive to anywhere (WPB, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, Orlando), close enough to visit and get the hell back to the country by nightfall.
I love central Florida, how do we allow admission to Cobra owners only?
