HOW DID MR. DAN et al in SW FLA?
Hurricane Charley made landfall right in his neighborhood: Cape Coral. Let us know how you did, when you can. Thinking of you cb

Chip,
Just got my electric back on at 7PM and I have the Air cranked way up in case we loose power again. I lost the screens in my pool cage, but most lost their entire cage. Also lost a few shingles on my roof, my house fared well. Punta Gorda actually got hit by the eye of the Huricane, Punta is about 20 miles north of me they almost got leveled. Lots of DAMAGE in this area. Thanks for thinking of me, take care.

10/4 Mr Dan-I thought you were a little futher north-now I remember you are in Cape Coral.
How did Pine Island fare? My mom and dad spent time there in the past and love it. Dad thought about returning this Jan. Suspect it did ok since Charley passed t the north.
I am so glad that you are ok and I feel for those people that got hit bad. We had a tornado hit the north side of Atlanta yeas ago and it took some 3 yesrs of uncertainty to et settled back in. One friend had theoption of rebuilding, and she did. But it proved to e a nightmare.
You and all the others have been and are in my thoughts chip

All of the Islands got hit pretty hard and Pine Island is one. They did let people back on Pine Island late yesterday but you had to be a resident. This is the first hit down in this area in over 40 years, at least I won't be around to see the next one.

Dan,
Glad to hear that you came through in pretty good conditions. The pictures on TV sure were bad. I hope that they don't find any more bodies and everything will now settle down. I guess I will spend my day today watching the fires here and seeing if they are going to get into town or not.

Alright!
Dan and Jean,
Gald to hear you guys are OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have been in our thoughts and prayers the last few days! Just knowing that you were in the path.
Carol's folks live just north of Lake Wales, and that area got hit real hard - lots of tree damage, and of course, mobile homes just ripped apart.
We went up yesterday to help out, but there is nothing to do without the power and water, so we brought them back down here. They fared pretty well, with just the fallen trees. No damage to their home. The area is without power and will be for at least several days. Power poles just sheared off 20-30 feet above ground, really amazing! Hundreds of them! We even saw some metal building parts hanging from some of the wires that were still up. Looks like a war zone!!!!!!!!!!!
How about a status report from some of the others over on the west coast, and central Fla.? I know Eng. Ed and family dodged the bullet. We see all the news about Punta Corda, but I know we have other members of our Cobra family all over the affected area. I spoke with Mike Dunkle (new Member) yesterday, over in the Merritt Island area, and he like Dan, had some screen damage.
The good news is that at least there was some warning, even if the sum***** changed direction at the last moment.
Hopefully, all faired well and we can reminisce our experiences at the Reptile Roundup III.
TL (in sunny south Fla.)

Terry,
I just got off the phone with Jim O'Brien who lives in Port Charlotte but he ran with his Aunt to the other coast. He says he found out his home has a lot of roof damage. He's not coming back until there is electric, water and phones which are all down. They have about 15 deaths confirmed and still looking for about 100 people that they don't know where they are. It's really bad in some areas but I personally fared well.

The eye passed over my area between 9 PM and 10 PM Friday night. The wind was down to about 75 mph compared to the 140 mph that it had when it came ashore. When the eye hit, it was like someone turned off the wind with a switch. It became calm in an instant, really amazing. The worst damage in Central Florida was from trees falling or debris being blown through windows. There was some wind damage to buildings, but nothing like the coastal areas where it came ashore. We got real lucky here. I've been hearing hurricane warnings for thirty some years and this was the first one to really hit here. I hope I never see one come through with the 140 mph winds that Charlie hit the coast with.

After getting back my power I found out that my pool filter is also damaged. I'll be ready to see everyone come November. Some of the damage near by will take a long time to return to normal but getting back the electric and water at my house was the best part, still a lot of people without power.

Hi Dan, glad to here that all is well by you. I was out on a NCL cruise ship in Alaska when a dinner couple asked where we were from, when I said Florida, he ruined out night ( actually trip ) by informing us about Charley.
We have a member that lives in Punta Gorda, Jim Millikin. He was up in Tn for Elvis's birthday party when Charley hit but he's sure that he got plenty of damage. Luckily his Cobra was in Denver getting a hard top put on, but not sure how all his other toys did.
He was suppose to call me when he got back on Sunday but I still haven't heard from him. I hope he's OK.
Also, all the general aviation airports from the west coast to the east coast (in Charley's path) got hit pretty hard. A couple of friends of mine lost their planes.

Armando,
I just got an email from Jim and put a copy below:
Hi Dan,
I was in Memphis doing the Stutz show when Charley hit but came back and delayed my return long enough to get my insurance adjuster to come out. I lost the sunshelter in front of the barn, blew in the rollup door on the barn and stripped all the turbine ventilators off the roof of the barn. The roof of the sunshelter flew over and hit the edge of my garage and ended up in my front yard. No other major damage although I did loose about 30 trees which blew over onto my neighbor's property.
I'm now in San Antonio where I just attended a funeral of a dear friend and tomorrow I'm back to Denver to see about the Cobra top fitting and paint.
Then maybe onto CA before returning. I've just buttoned up the stuff at home and will deal with it this winter when I return as I couldn't get any help now anyway.
Hope you are all back to normal now.
Later,
Jimbo on the Road in San Antonio
The one I liked best was the guy living in a trailer home moved all his things into storage before the storm. After the storm he returned to his trailer to find out it had not suffered any damage but the storage facility was totaled with all his things. It's going to take along time for things to get normal around here. We are all starting the getting back to normal thing by still having the September 5th Pig Roast at Tom Gerbers house, get there by 1pm and dinner is around 5pm. Bob from Lake Suzy just had his power come back on as of August 24, or 12 days after the storm. He will be at the Pig Roast, I think he might want to use Tom's shower.

Armando,
I see you have been vacationing so long that you forgot how to use the computer and posted twice hell I got it the first time.
Dan
P.S. I wish you and Manny could attend the Pig Roast as it's been awhile since I first met you both at my Cobra Bash at my house. The last time we partied was at Silver Springs.

We have a winter place in port charlotte and was down in april ( we rent it out jan-march) and met a guy with an orange cobra like ours. he lived in port charlotte and his plates were "1FSTMF" i think his name was Rick or Rich? anyone know how he made out?
we only lost some screens. my parents have about 30-40,000.00. our son who rents a house had to move out of his place. the park we are in, 551 units has major damage to 320 of them. has been a crazy few weeks with checking up on everyone down there. we couldn't go down and it was very hard. parents went because of all their damage. one pit fall to a family business. just the sales of the alunium in our park is going to bring in over $70,000. to help with repairs to the club houses. that is alot of roofs and car ports.

This is the FFR Cobra of Rick Rockafellow. This is a picture I took of Ricks Cobra and license plate at a Port Charlotte car show over a year ago, I didn't get to meet Rick. I really don't know how Rick fared with Charlie but will have to contact him today because he is suppose to come to our Pig Roast on September 5th.
