Default Shifter question for Backdraft

I really can't stand the location of the shifter in my BDR, it has a TK0 500 tranny in it. I understand that this tranny can accept different shifter location, the question is this: Is it possible to have the shifter location moved forward, and then have someone reglass the hole from the old shifter point? I think moving it forward, and putting a shorter shifter on it, would actually greatly improve the ergonomics of the car and make it more comfortable.

Also here is another question, I am not happy with the halogen headlights in my BDR. Is it possible to upgrade the lights to a xenon system? If anyone has done this, I would love to hear from them.

I know many people are going to say this is how cobra;s are supposed to be, sorry you feel that way, but I dont care. Its cool our cars are modeled after the original cobra, but face it, it is not 1966. We are in a different time, and there is better technology out there. If I am going to drive the crap out of my car, I want it to be as modern and comfortable as possible!!!

The old shifter hole could be reglassed. It would be easier just to cover the old hole with a piece of aluminum. It's going to be covered by carpet anyways.

A quick search found this Bi-Xenon conversion

Hi there,

we do offer a xenon kit for our cars , it can be found at www.backdraftparts.com. The kit improves your driving beams but you do loose your high beams. The customers who have installed the kits really like them.

As far as the shifter goes, a mid shift kit is available for your transmission. This is not a simple bolt on kit and requires the transmission to be pulled apart to be fitted. The easier solution would be to turn the shifter around. This is something that can be done on the newer TKO 500's and 600's. It moves the shift leaver location about 3 inches forward and you will probably find a bigger shift boot to cover the hole rather than having to close it up and recarpet the car. You can then install a shorter lever and you will probably feel more at home in the car.

I have a TKO600 and had the shifter moved to the midpoint for around $200. It looks like this:

I love it that way compared to the traditional way with the backward lever.
