Thumbs up Who's interested in a track event at Sebring in 1st Qtr 2008?

I'm looking to see if there are any available dates at Sebring in January ~ March.
The cost to rent the North course is $6K per day plus $1K insurance.
I need the commitment of at least 40-45 drivers to keep the event "affordable" ($150 +/- per day).

Who would like to join me?

Anyone know how to start a poll?

Ed

I would be interested. Going to my first event in either October or November in Gville. From what everyone tells me, after one track event I will be hooked. Keep us up to date on the progess.

Evinrude,

I'm interested (as long as you have your usual good weather guarantee )

Ed, I am in. I am sure Gassie, Wiedman, and Dave Evans are in as well. I will give them a heads-up.

Would you allow me to run in my '65 Shelby GT350 or is this a Cobra only event?
Thanks,
MC

Hello-
I'm interested, but found out State Farm does not cover me on the track. Anyone else with this problem and any known solution besides being careful?

I read somewhere once that if you can't afford to leave it in a smoking heap on the side of the track then don't race it. I don't think you will find anyone to insure your car on the track. With that said, this is not wheel to wheel racing per se. It's not a "race". If you are new to it then you will be in the beginner group and that requires you to be pointed by to pass and only in certain sections of the track. It's not like on TV.

There will be plenty of people that may be a little hesitant about having their car on the track. Keep in mind that it is up to you how fast you go. No one else wants to damage their car either and the more "enthusiastic" amongst us will be in the intermediate and advanced groups. There is an instructional tour of the track for beginners to show them certain spots on the track that you need to be aware of, to show you the racing line, etc. You are not just dumped on the track. At every event there were plenty of guys out there that were new to the event and were just out having fun - not trying to set records. That's what it's all about.

It's fun as hell and you need to do it at least once. But if you do it once you'll be back...

I can assure you, all bets are off when you set "tire" in this case on the track.
I only race my GT350, no street driving, but I still carry insurance for storage, paddock and towing. Any track time and you are on your own.

It is very important for beginning drivers or those who just like to take it easy to stay in the correct group. You may think that by going slow you will be safe; on the contrary you could end up getting slammed by a faster car. That is why it is so important that the organizer group people correctly.
We were all beginners at one time or the other and sometimes you just want to take it easy. I will say that my first open track got me hooked 10 or 15 years ago and led to vintage racing.

Oh, one other thing, if you crash or get crashed in to, it's pretty much every man for himself. Don't think you'll get someone else to foot the bill...

Ed, I am interested, but tell me, by north course do you mean the front and back straights only? If so what would be the extra cost for the 12hr course?

I believe the "North Course" is the "Club Course". This is the newer section of track. The "Paddock Course" is the one that has the front and back straight with all the rough concrete.

I've run the Club Course several times. Each time I thought I would be disappointed not running the full course. I wasn't. The Club Course is a great track all by itself. The pavement is nice and smooth and you have a lot more run-off room just in case you get a little to aggressive.

You know I'm in. Not sure what I'll be driving. I don't care if I have to ride my bike around the track, I'll be there.

I would come, but it depends on dates - I will make it my "winter getaway" if schedule works out.

Sounds like we have enough interest to warrant another DSCC Sebring event.
The 12-hour course is $12K per day.
The Club course is only $6K.
Makes it much easier for me.

I'm STILL waiting to hear back on dates in 1st Qtr 2008.
As soon as I get a date, I'll post the info.

This event will be open to all cars. Of course we'd like to have a majority of Cobra's, but GT500's and Lotus are welcome.

Thanks guys!

Ed, is the club course the top course below? Not sure if the pic of the "modified" layout is a possibility, or even preferred.

Ed,
Count me and 2 or 3 of the PBC folks in. I'll gladly pay double to run the real track. At the RR last year us PBC guys had some real carnage with the short track, but then again, we're a bunch if sissies.....
Keep up the good work.

The top picture is the club course. The paddock course (lower picture) can be rough on you and your car. That's all of the old concrete runway. It's about as smooth as ....an old concrete runway. While the club course can be hard on brakes, it's much smoother and not surrounded by concrete barriers.

I never could get turn 2 of the paddock course down ....

I probably can't attend (Mine doesn't hit the track), but I commend your effort on putting together something that looks great for the Deep South Cobra Club and friends...
