Mr Mustang...
Gee, uuh, I'd kind of like to try for the 289, but then again, the rumble one gets out of a 351 is always sweet. Is this a question we should pose to the"family?

In other words don't let go of it yet!

Hersch, you are a good man. Could you or would you, if you haven't, post this fabulous offer under Jamo's thread?

Mr. Mustang, I have to be honest here, as soon as Dave said they were going to do the FIA I immediately thought, "Wait til Bill here's about this one!"

DV--should the DVSF Kirkham FIA Cobra be a 289 or a 351? That is the question

Well,,,the 289 would be a better choice for a Kirkham FIA car I would think. Hmmmm,,,,it will be interesting to see how the new FIA cars play out with various owner motor choices as time goes on.

Took a close look at the motor this AM (bought a whole bunch of 69 Shelby parts), left it were it is for now....Just a 351W 2V replacement motor (still an excellent candidate for a performance build)........It's mine for the asking, so just let me know...........Will see about finding a "dated" 289 as well over the next week or so and let you guys know what I come up with............

Sincerely,

Bill S.

I've got a '68 289, complete top to bottom, bone stock and in need of a rebuild. Not a HiPo, but...shout if you want it.

Dan,
I have not heard that rumor! But I do have two great guys that are ready to donate a motor.

Turnpike Boy, how we gonna get that hy-po here. Sounds like it may be the one. Still waiting for David to tell me which way he wants to go.

DV...Not delivered, not confirmed but I was told a London (Ohio) businessman is going to donate $10,000.00 if we hold the event at the Lake on Sunday! Can it get better than this ??

Cool

DV,

Shipping an engine is not a problem...Getting it on a pallet or crated up could be....However, where there is a will, there is a way...Either way you decide to go, let me know, and I'll see what I can do about getting it from here, to you........

Sincerely,

Bill S.

'Morning, DV. Iffn you want it, I will crate up the 289 and ship it on out to you. Be aware this is a plain-jane 289 - NOT a HiPo - just a 2 bbl. It has about 65,000 miles on it; heads/pan/etc. are apart, but shortblock together and untouched. Heads pretty much crappy (2 bbl heads), so maybe some others in order. I will post the codes off the block w/pictures of all tomorrow..just got to pull it off the shelf and get'em. This thing is complete - carb, dist., alternator, starter - you name it. Tell me what you wnat and we'll get it to you. Pictures and codes to follow.

Hey, mr.stang, I've still got the shipping pallet that my 302 was delivered in...the 351/289/whatever will plop right into that. Simple and easy. I think it was Roadway that delivered it; and shipping won't be much.

Cool

Hey TB,

It always helps to have a shipping crate laying around .....We'll see what DV and the rest of the gang decide, and we (you and I) can then go from there.........

Yours In NJ based Fords,

Bill S.

Hhmph. Camera battery dead and charger in the office...gonna have to wait a day or so for pictures. Anyway - the 289 block is ser.#8K246927; casting #'s on side of block are C6AE-6015-C, which I believe makes it a 1966 block instead of the 1968 I thought it was. Lifter valley casting #'s spell out 289, and WF3. Film at 11...probably thursday.

turnpike boy

The decision has been made! It WILL be the 289.

I only need the long block, No Clutch, bellhousing or water pump is necessary ! Flywheel would be good. Also don't need a carb either!

More on some really neat parts for this motor later!

Now...how can I get it here and when can I get it? Seems "THE" car is going to be done very very soon!

Mr. Mustang can you break those numbers down for us? Is it a Hi-Po?

DV...Thanks so much guys, it's hard to fail with this kind of support!

DV,

The numbers break down as such:

C6AE-6015-C

C6=1966
AE=It originally came in the Mustang
This is a stock 289 engine (2 or 4V) , 6 bolt bellhousing, 4.00" bore size, 8.206" deck height (just as an FYI, the HiPo 289 and the standard 289 share the same block, with the exception being the wider and heavier main bearing caps).
Heads are 289 with 54.5cc chambers (if a C6 casting), and valve sizes of 1.67/1.45 inches respectively, or 63cc chambers(if a C8 casting is present) with the same valve sizes as the earlier units

Both styles of heads will work well provided they get flowed properly......A hydraulic version of the 289 HiPo cam (crane has one that is almost dead on to the original, but not a solid cam) works well with these heads...However, the engine builder will decide what is needed to compliment the work he/she will be performing...

Any other questions, just let me know.

Sincerely,

Bill S.

PS: Would love to get the casting numbers off the heads (C4, C5, C6, or C8 starting codes).........

Bill,

A very generous offer indeed. I'll be talking to David today. If he doesn't want to install a system, (originality you know) then I know the Auction will certainly benefit from your terrific system!

I'll be in touch.

DV...waiting for pieces, parts, and one of the most sought after snakes on the planet!
