Default DVSF2 Raffle Car news

I talked to Don at Minnesota Classics today who is building the engine for Tony Ripeppi's car. It is a 418 stroker with Edelbrock Victor Jr heads and my intake with an Electromotive TEC 3 engine management system. Don broke the motor in on an engine dyno using a RPM air gap and a 750 Holley before switching to the injection (he wanted to learn the EFI after the motor was a known quantity). Carb made 515HP and 540lb/ft of torque and then he swapped out the intake and made 536HP and 580lb/ft of torque. That's 20+HP and 40lb/ft of torque increase with the stack injection system!!! Don thought that was really good but he was extremely impressed with the throttle response, way better than the carb.
Ed Combs is building the rest of the car for Tony as many of you know. Ed, how about a update on the car's progress?

Ohhh, it's coming along. As usual we just don't know how to build a plain ol' stock type car so a lot of custom work being done.

Tilton overhead mounted pedal system, totally enlarging the drivers foot well, modifying the doors cutomizing the tilt nose, modifying the battery location, eliminating what we call the "Tee-Pee" on the drivers side firewall, you know, just little stuff!

Don said he would be here with the motor this week! Can't wait to see this baby and hear it run! If I can, I'll post some pictures right after it arrives!

DV...wouldn't have an ol' stack system for the KMP/Jenny/Fling III 289 would ya?

Hello to All,

The combination of Miinesota Classics (Don Scott) and Classics by Elite (Ed Combs aka DV) to build the DVSF II Daytona Coupe has been a very positive decision. Don has built a 410 cu. in. stroker (Victor Junior heads, Eagle rods, Cera Coated the pistons, ARP bolts...top shelf everything) that will provide all of the power and looks (Coolness Factor) to make the car a very special ride. Don has taken the eight down stack system from Wayne and integrated it with the engine management computer system to optimize the operation of the engine. Adjustable spark, fuel pulse, MAP, RPM limits etc. etc. couple that with rapid throttle response and 563 lb. ft. of torque that peaks at approx 4500 RPM and this car becomes a force to be treated with respect. The engine will be delivered to Ed having been run on the Dyno for approx. 6 hours and ready to drop into the Coupe with the Tremec TKO behind it.

Ed and Jay Kowalick at Elite have combined their expertise to take the custom fabrication to the level of an art form that will be make this FFR Coupe the poster car along with the poster child ....Jenny for DVSF III.

More news and updates as the build progresses...I will be visiting in Ohio over the next few weeks.

BTW I have the formula for winning at Spring Fling and fully intend to win the Kirkham FIA....

Jamo,

Forget the FIA car, you already have a Kirkham. I just need one ticket and you can come see it in my garage.

Tony Tony Tony...

There's only one spot left on the trailor on the way back for you. Besides, if you win again, do you really think your loving Cobra bros would let you leave Ohio alive?

Ron

Tony has two...so I want two. Besides, I want to argue with myself in the BB v SB threads.

Jamo,

Ship one....Drive one sooo many Cobras Sooooo little time.

If the Cobra gods are watching it would only be true serendipity.

BTW we are setting up the 3rd annual BACC dinner. It looks like either the St. Francis Yacht Club....Room looks across SF bay under the Golden Gate. 3/29/2003 7:30 PM. Or possibly Blackhawk museum same date/time.

Jamo,

It's mine, mine, mine, all mine. I just need more garage space because the two I have take up all my space. However I have already arranged for a space for one of mine and the FIA can set next to the NASCAR Torino Cobra. I have already argued the big block small block with myself and it is a no winner so I guess that leaves you out. However you are welcome to bring your's up and park it beside MINE when I win it and take pictures. HA !!!

Tony doesn't need another one. I have seen his 427 over at Bill's several times and it is a beauty. And he has the Daytona coming.

Ron WINNER !!!

I gotta tell you guys the system Wayne sells @ WWW.VeryCoolParts.com is really something. The Tec 3 computer had a little learning curve to it but it works great. The only part of the manual that ticked me off was on the first page.

It reads" The Tec 3 is designed to easily control a huge number of complex engine management functions through the hands of a user who is new at the game".

Well, I'm not new at the game but for 4 days while setting up the engine and computer on the dyno I had that statement in the back of my mind. I kept thinking boy I'm a new user to this system but I must be dumb because I don't get it. Needless to say all went well after a little learning curve.

I have never run an engine with such throttle response. It has to be the coolest sounding motor I have ever built. DV's going to have some fun while tuning the computer in the car. Wait a minute, I'm not giving DV my password so the car will have to come here for tuning. It's a real difficult system so I imagine it will take all summer to tune the damn thing! Oh well, I have time.

Gentlemen-
I would just like to tell you that you should all save your money. If you want to donate $$ to Team Jenny (they do accept cash donations you know), that is fine. However, I would hate to see you get your hopes by buying a raffle ticket, only to be crushed when I wind up winning it. I hope you can appreciate that I am really just looking out for your best interests here.

I hope theDrawing goes off early Friday Morning. I will be bringing my new race engine with me so the Crankoids can make a quick engine swap and then we are off to Beaverun to put some track patina in that Aluminum body. I have already registered the car for Open track so all you non winners can come watch your dream car on the track.

Cranky

Jamo,

Default 410 motor

Tony,

Hi, Eric Brown here.

Very impressive motor results. Could you expound with some of the build details such as bore, stroke, crank used, compression, and if the block is anything besides a 351W truck block?

The car sounds like it will be fantastic. You can not go wrong with DV doing anything (Shameless plug for Ed Combs, owner of Classics by Elite, Inc. Go to > http://www.cobras.com) on your car.

Hope to see it at the DVSF III!!!!!

Eric

Eric, We started with a 1970 block. The crank is a forged Scat, 4.10 stroke. Rods are H beam, 6.20, ARP bolts. Federal comp bearings, main and rod. Probe forged pistons with total seal rings. Compression is 10:1. We added a girdle to the mains, moly coated the piston skirts, ceramic coated the piston top. Heads are Victor Jr. Cam is Comp Xtreme energy split duration, 284, 296, .541 intake lift, .544 ex. lift. Moly pushrods and rollers. The computer for the injection is a direct fire Tec 3 system. No distributor, the system uses coil packs and a crank trigger. SFI balancer, SVO billet flywheel. Everything was balanced, static and rotating.

Hello Eric,

A great fictional American Poet and Enforcer of the laws of the land once said

"A man has got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan

When I won the Coupe at the fling and saw what people were going through in the building of the FFR Coupe I knew it was beyond my capabilities, ability to commit time and being able to execute the construction to the level of performance, fit and finish the DVSF II Team Jenny car deserved. I interviewed several shops across the country and decided on Elite and Minnesota Classics to build the Coupe and Engine.

I have never regretted the decision and the Coupe will be at the fling. I am flying out for the fling and having it shipped back here afterwards. One of my local BACC co-presidents and I are splitting the shipping. Joe Kennedy is shipping his SPF out to the fling and then driving back to the West Coast afterwards and the Coupe is taking that slot back to the West Coast in the enclosed trailer.

I will be there and the trip back will hopefully be the choice of either drivng the Coupe back and shipping the Kirkham or driving the Kirkham and shipping the Coupe DECISIONS DECISIONS

Tony R.

That truck will be coming back to my house first--Coupe will be offloaded at my house--I will drive it up to your place for ya buddy! Given my size, it will most certainly have a Gurney (Jamo) bump in the roof and a few other bulges.
