Default Thought: Ride for Charity (DVSFIII)?

Guys, I was thinking about the following- I would gladly pay a reasonable sum of money for a ride in a particular cobra...say $50 or so for a 5-10 minute ride, especially if it was going to charity. I am not sure about the liability aspect of DVSF, however I am sure there are others like me and from the charitable nature of this group I am sure there are some owners who would gladly give a ride knowing the cash would go to charity.

Just a thought......but to me, $150 for a ride in an era, followed by a kirkham followed by a SPF is definitely appealing, and more importantly it would be helping the casue.

thoughts???

Default Rides

I think most people who would like a ride in a Cobra have no idea and couldn't care less if it is a Kirkham or a factory Five! To a casual observer, they all look alike. From 15 or 20 feet away, how many Club cobra members do you think could tell the difference between a painted Kirkham, ERA SPF (adjusted for proper stance) or SAI? I think a $10 charge would encourage more people to participate. Just my thoughts.

Larry, I agree....no knock on any other cobras, I would love a ride in an FFR, EM, SV, Contemporary e.t.c. as well!!!! I guess my frame of mind is just currently into SPF, ERA, Kirkham...thats why they popped into my head when I wrote it.

Guys,
This was done last year and is to be expanded on this year also, DV could give you more details on what was ironed out but last year in London it was $20 a ride.

Hi Guys,

I fully intend to make my Daytona coupe available for these activities....even from 20 feet away the Coupe looks real different !!!!!

And if it's hot the A/C will make it more comforable !!!!!!!!

OK...for those that didn't know, "The Ride Program" is a huge fund raiser for Jenny and CF. Jay and I just walked in moments ago, from a meeting with the Quaker Steak & Lube management!

They will be doing "dedicated" commercials for our event, advertising on the radio about the ride program. We have found the absolute perfect route, roughly 2 miles, minus on a very little used road.

Pull out of the "Lube" follow the road to the first traffic light and turn left back to the "Lube". So simple and perfect I swear the City built it just for us!

Friday morning at OSU, same thing, grab a passanger and scare the dickens out of them on the SCCA autocross.

Saturday- downtown London,.....well we all know about downtown London.

Sunday, now that will be the day to charge $100.00 per ride!

$10.00 or more, will get you a ride in any willing Cobra!

DV...NOW, more than ever-we are family!

Heck, I'd pay $10 to ride in a Coupe or GT40. I'd even double that if I could "ride" from the left seat!

Ahem.

Just remember that the ride thing REALLY took off last year when Rolling Thunder and yours truly lined up and did burnouts with a cop flagging us off (I know DV--shame, shame on us). Then the FFR guys went to town. And all day long--Wayne and the computer controlled GT40 thingy was screaming in and out of town (shaking the he!! out of the porta-potty I was sitting in!).

And the folks paying the money thought they were having fun.

I think there should be a menu.

COBRA RIDES:

FFR:...............$ 15.00
UNIQUE:........$ 16.50
E.M:...............$ 20.00
KIRKHAM:.......$ 25.00
CSX:No rides. We are too stuck up to have passengers.
SPF:...............$ 3.00
ANY RED COBRA: Free

This should keep them busy for a while...

Just a thought... I see walk-a-thons all the time where you sponser somebody to walk 5, 10 ,15 whatever miles. How about collecting donation/mile for those of us driving our cobras to DVSFIII? $0.10/mi or so...

DV - any thoughts? Could we be supplied with "official" CF donor forms?

- Dan

Dan,
I proposed this following last years Fling and at that time DV seemed to agree that it could turn into "real money". If DV is agreeable how about you and I take the lead on this? A simple printable form could be added to the website for everyone to use and I'm more than willing to set up a couple of times over the weekend to collect and issue reciepts ( Friday at the lodge and again Sunday at the track for example but that is wide open for other suggestions). Folks could either go for the option of a per mile rate or just solicit a set donation amount from friends, neighbors, etc. The potential income is SIGNIFICANT; just being conservative lets say 300 cars at only $50 worth of donations each makes $15,000 for CF! I'm betting many can do much better than this if we just make everyone aware and keep the idea active.

Spring Fling pre-departure checklist:
1. Clean underwear...check.
2. Sunscreen...check.
3. Cookies...check.
4. Donation sheet...check
5. Raki...check (optional!).

Let's do it! DV, do we have your blessings? Anyone see a snag or downside I'm missing?
Dan, let's talk, e-mail or give a call (812)327-0393 days.
Jeff

Guys,
You know I'm behind everyone of our family's ideas to raise money for Jenny.

Just don't go to jail!

I think that your idea could raise thousands if you can get the idea out and cooperation from the masses.

With the Kirkam generosity, the generosity of our family and the help of our family I know we are going to break the impossible dream of $100,000.00 for the DVSF III.

It's going to take "ALL" of us to hit this magic unbelievable amount, but I really, really think we can do it!

DV...Practice is over-now get to work!

Thumbs up Turk

Turk, now that was funny!!!!!!!

"CSX:No rides. We are too stuck up to have passengers."

But you missed on the red cobras. The free ones should be those bare aluminum ones since they where to cheap to paint them!

I did not attend last years Fling. I'm really looking forward to this part of it. What is it like giving rides to passengers? How many rides would you say were given? I assume there was some kind of size limit because smaller kids can't be buckled into the cars properly?
Any idea where to buy those air sickness bags that are in airplanes? I'll put one in my passenger side door pocket. Maybe give the "Keep your hands inside the ride at all times until it comes to a complete stop" routine? Or maybe a sign saying "Watch your legs!"

Exclamation Good ideas

Good ideas Steve (klayfish)! What is a LOT of fun is ripping down the road with a uniformed officer in the car. I personally did not give rides last year. Not for lack of desire, just with the way we where parked there was no way to get out. I think DV has addressed this issue for this year. Looking forward to giving some Cobra rookie a real thrill.

Funny story about my daughter. She loves cars (thats my girl!). I was catching some afternoon ZZZZs. While I was, she hit up my father for 20 bucks and took a ride in ??? GT40. Then she woke me up and rubbed it in. How many 11 year old girls do you know that can't wait to ride in a GT40 much less know what one is!

Jeff,

If somebody can get it put together or if CF foundation can send us a walk-a-thon form, be happy to start hitting up my friends and co-workers for donations to the drive-a-thon. We are about 95 miles from Columbus, so at $0.10/mile I would only need about six people to sponser me to hit your $50.00 guestimate - should not be a problem.
