Top that with the KC Royals, a really FABULOUS city to visit, and a visitor's and convention bureau we can bring in to assist...and we can whip up a great time for all.
PREMIER has a 50,000 sq ft facility. We have the ability to host such an event. We have the Mid-America Cobra Club (although I am not a member and can't speak for them ) and I'll wager where there's a charity event needed to help a little girl - these guys will ALL step up.
So.....I'm making the offer. Until this guy is cuffed - or toe tagged - you may consider Kansas City an alternate location for DVSFIV. Ed, you tell me what you need and I'm in....penny or a pound. 24/7 if need be till you can take the helm again.
913-321-2225. Call if you wish 24/7 365. I'm quite serious. A man with a social conscience who is as generous and kind as you are deserves some help when the gameplan goes sour. Heck, who knows, maybe we begin the tradition of an annual DV Fall Fling as well to provide a second venue for you.... But that's your call.
We're here if you need us!

Bob, A really nice offer! I think KC is great and a perfect central location.
Maybe we can all consider regional Pre-Fling fund raisers leading up to a KC Fling later in the year and before it gets too cold! That way those that want to host the Fling can host a mini-version.
A critical factor will be to make sure, as best as possible, that it is a Cobra maker agnostic event.

A few good ones to choose from. Cumberland MD is only 4.5 hours from Columbus (which means I would be there in about 3). KC is 10 hours and Steve, where in PA?

Sugestions for Alternate/regional events to replace the OHIO location, so far.
PHILLY or NJ for the NE.
Birmingham or N.Florida for the SE.
KC for the MID USA.
LV for the Far West.
Decisions NEED TO BE MADE.
If the capture happens today. is the DVSF IV back on (as if nothing ever happened)??
what if the capture is in March?
What if its in April?
What if its in May?
What if its in early June?
What is the Go/Nogo dates for most of the Ohio Events?
Has the Strawberry festival been canceled??
If we are really gonna have regional versions of the event THIS YEAR, many volunteers are gonna have step up to the plate. ....
and many decisions are going to have to be made. . .
and soon.
The problem is... (and please, no disrespect to dv)
Once the DVSF is canceled.. NO ONE IS IN CHARGE... DV is ABSOLUTELY in charge as long as the event is in OHIO. And thats GREAT. DV has done the impossible, getting multiple car manufactures to lay down their differences and come to gather in a no particular glory for any one but TEAM JENNY event. Yes, he has done what no man or woman has ever done (or probably wants to do) and I for one APPRECIATE what he has done. And i wish he would RECONSIDER.
But, who is in charge NOW?? Is DV still in charge??
Do we want to VOTE?? and if so, on what and who gets to vote??
Note to self: Call the Town and Country Motel and reserve a room that some one has canceled.

The choice to go, or not to go to Ohio is up to each and every one of us. It's a tough call, on one hand, I make it a point to live life one day at a time, and not to let the "threat" or "potential" of violence sway me one way or the other (logic first). However, in my case, I must also factor in the safety and well being of my wife and son. I must consider what would I feel if something terrible (in this case a stray bullet from the gun of a deranged human being) should befall them. Yes for me it is a tough decision, but for my families safety, I would choose to not go to the DVSF this year if the person responsible for these "random"(we just don't know what sets this guy off, it could be a make or model of a car, the color of it, perhaps the noise it makes going down the road, or 10,000 other reasons)acts is not captured. I refuse to take a chance with my family's safety, and this is my reasoning behind my very personal decision. The rest of you must decide what is best for you.
In the mean time, I'll be making calls this evening to some of my connections to see if it is even a realistic idea to put together something similar to the DVSF here in NJ on such short notice (hotels, meals, drag racing, autocrossing, perhaps a show, etc and so forth).....Will let you guys know over the course of the next week one way or the other.........
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Rick, the thing that's breaking my heart is that the Cumberland event is the same weekend as the Cobra Revolution. We have already reserved our pavillion and are planning other events to do, so I really would have a hard time switching dates. As I mentioned, I know there is an autox on Sunday the 6th. I'm sure there are drag races around, etc... The venue is about 7 hours east of Columbus, right at the PA/NJ border.
There is also a place in Lancaster, Pa which would be perfect for an event. It's right near Carlisle. Huge gathering areas, close to local drag strips, an active autox group, etc.. the landscape is very similar to the London area. It's probably 4-5 hours east of Columbus.

IMO DVSF is DV's baby. There is no DVSF with out him.
However, looks like there are a lot of fun events already going on. We could join in or if some one wants to do something special, great!
May I suggest a different thread to discuss the posibilities? I started one in the lounge to list all the events that are currently scheduled in the lounge. We could list events there and then talk.
This thread is just to damn depressing

After talking to DV, and a couple of other folks, I think this can be pulled off. Moving the SF 2 hrs north to the Cleveland, Ohio area. Basically about 25-30 west of Clev on the lake. There are 4 motels within 1/2 mile of each other. All are located at an exit for the Ohio Turnpike and I-90. Some of the events planned for London can be held here...but also will need to come up with some new ones.
All I can promise is 3 days of events. I doubt that SF III will ever be topped, but this ball has to start rolling now. Same dates as London. Trying to keep things like they have been, if all the venues are available, otherwise this is where the new ones come in.
I'll need help from the Northern Ohio people, but as of now this is a doable project. As for help, have no idea what I need, all I know is that I don't need lip service, but hands on help.
I realize that we will lose some people, simply for the fact that it's not in Columbus, or not being put on by DV, I would hope that you don't stay away for that reason.
I guess what I'm looking for right now is a thumbs up or thumbs down, before we go any further with this....Will have a definate answer by Monday, based on the response that I get...
One last thing, will someone that is a FF forum member please post this over there....thanks in advance

If a Fling type event can be pulled off on the same weekend as the original plans, I'll go to Cleveland or north Jersey.
But for the June 5th/6th weekend...I was searching around for other things to go along with the Cobra event our club has already planned... I know there is an autox, and check this out...
http://www.nmraracing.com/2004/event4/info/default.htm
The Ford Motorsport Nationals are that weekend in Maple Grove raceway!!! www.maplegroveraceway.com It's only about a 90 minute drive from the site of our Cobra show. How about doing our own show and heading out there to join the events at the Ford show? I'm sure they'd LOVE to have us. That looks like fun.

Guys, posted this once already, but give me a few minutes and check the thread for DVSF IV updates.
Since this morning, I have three very, very viable and doable plans, including the Cleveland area.
DV.."We" are trying very hard on this. No one wants this to continue more than I do!

When I was at the last fling, I went to Mt. Vernon for an auction.
Looked like a nice town, and not too far from Columbus, and the hotels on the north side of Columbus. Nice roads, twisty, curvy, hilly, very nice roads for cruising actually. And I believe its away from the sniper's territory...
Like I said, nice looking town, do they have a need for a festival of some sort? Of course, I'm sure there're a lot of small nice towns north of Columbus that might not mind an invasion of out-of-town tourists with dollars.
Hope it doesn't get canceled. Is it really such a fear-mongerer in Columbus??

What about dayton or Spring field...?? london is still commutable from either, especially Springfield.. we could hit the zenia drag strip and race track...
and Spring field is close to lake chocktaw...???
My brother saw a Figure 8 race in zenia in the 6's. Figure 8 is probably out, but could we autocross there on Friday?? maybe some real drag racing on friday???? Just thinking out loud.
cleveland, while its ok with me is certainly more out of the middle of the country.. and DV probably has no ties to Cleveland... but hell, the Yellow Submarine has never been to cleveland either. AND clevland ROCKS.

I lived 58 years in the Cleveland area and was planning on comeing in the weekend before the Fling to visit family and friends. Jack put me down as your offical helper, in fact since I'm retired I could come up even sooner to help out. I think the first thing would be to pick the place other than London to have the DVSFIV. Once the new venue is picked we can still use Ed's web site and the only major thing would be to get four Motels in the Cleveland area where we can all stay, thats of course if the Cleveland area is picked. I have a local Cleveland lady that makes killer cookies. Since Ed would still be incharge having our party close to him, should be considered.

Jack hows the Cleveland weather in June?
I had family and friends join my wife and I at last years Spring Fling in London. The lady that makes killer cookies was there and this year she would actually have to bring some if held in Cleveland. I was figureing if I told all my Cleveland area friends that I'll be in town in June the attendance figures would have really increased. That means it would have had to be moved to a larger area than London anyway.

Jack,
I don't know if the wife will let me go this far in advance but if she does, can I stay at the Firehouse? Being retired I won't be able to handle a 4 month Hotel bill. Afraid to answer my question, will the snow be gone by June? I know when I lived in Brunswick I never put the snowshovel away until July 4th. Remember you are a lot farther north than London.

DV -
All kidding aside, Lexington area has grown up a lot since you grew up there. There are a LOT of local hotels (due to Mid-Ohio of course) but from a real venue perspective, it would be tougher.
I'm sure i'm biased, but I think it makes sense to keep it in Ohio, whether it be Cincy, Cleveland, or even po-dunk Lexington, Norwalk, etc...
I will make every effort to go anywhere this thing ends up.
What ever happened with that thing we talked about on the phone that one time?
I'm mainly in Cleveland now, but back in Lexington quite a bit. If you need ANY help AT ALL with ANYTHING, call me ANYTIME.
440/479-6878
I am happy to do anything to help that I am capable of. I just want to have the event, even if it's not the same as before.
