Thumbs up FINALLY! The DVSF IV agenda-

UPDATE FOR SATURDAY LISTED BELOW --IN THIS THREAD

Once again, bare with me, this is going to be long. I know it's been too long in coming and I apologize for that, but I know all of you understand our, shall we say "problems" this year. I trust that you know we have gone full bore to bring this together. What you are about to partake in is like nothing we have done before. Amazing, just darned amazing. More Vendors, better locations, much more Ohio/public participation, and anticipation to our arrival, and of course, enough "stuff" and events to wear out the best of you! Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and read on... DVSFIV HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED!

A normal event that covers three days would take pages, but a Fling could take chapters!

After a tedious start to say the least, I think we've come up with a winner. The original cancellation, the “capture”, starting over so many times, I've lost track. Plan "A" went by the way side; Plan "B" as awesome as it appeared fell through at the midnight hour. A very disappointing start to say the least. Constantly thinking what are "we" going to do? What we do to prepare for a Fling will normally take 10 to 14 months, we've done three...four...five times in just the last 40 days.

I have never been prouder of our entire DVSF family. The help, devotion, the sweat, the volunteers, and most of all, the support from every corner of the universe has been very helpful to say the least.

So, "we" have never worked harder, or longer than ever before. More "we's" than ever before have been directly involved. So "we" with out further adieu give you the DVSF IV SCHEDULE:

June 25, 2006
Friday morning:

Rick Dorman has set up our first “Poker Run”. Of course this is “The Fling”. Any normal Poker Run wouldn’t do! It has to be done in style and class.

Rick will fill in more details as time permits, but this is it in a nutshell. We will start first thing Friday morning. The Cobras will be divided into two main groups, of which will be divided into smaller groups. Lets just say everyone in-group “A” will go counter clockwise. Everyone in-group “B” will go clockwise.

We have four businesses that are elated that we are coming. #1. JEGS Hi-Performance. No explanation needed here!

#2. Champs at Easton, This is a double dipper for all. Easton is one of the premier shopping malls in the country and Champs is just plain cool!

#3. The Bogey Inn, one of Columbus’ oldest and most prestigious restaurants around. The drive alone will be worth the trip.

#4. Der Dutchman, a huge, fairly new Amish owned and operated restaurant that is famous for their awesome cuisine! Again it is a fantastic place with a drive to match.

Each group will hit all the same stops and will actually pass each other during the day. Rick has picked out stops that will allow you to cruise from wide-open country areas, to the guts of Columbus. You will have a chance to show off all day, cruise and have a ball doing it!

You should be done and back at the hotels by 3:30 or 4 O’clock.

The rules, details of the game, cards, ties, etc., will all be explained later.

FRIDAY NIGHT:
This is one event change that you have all asked for. For those Fling Veterans that are familiar with the hotels, will remember the old brick church next door with the beautifully groomed land, baseball field, and parking galore. DV Jr., talked to the Elders and asked if they wouldn’t be so kind as to allow us the use of their property for our Friday night party. The answer was a resounding yes. If you want to go for another short drive, you can drive your Cobra across the hotel parking lot, to the Church property and park right in the grass, showing off once again to the entire population of central Ohio. Of course if the 200-foot walk isn’t too much for you, you can simply walk over!

Huge tent with seating for all, our opening ceremony’s, a live band, (different than last year), a catered banquet, our auctions, the door prizes will be given out, (you wont believe what has been donated from our sponsors this year!) and of course the final results from the DVSF’s first poker amazing Poker Run will be announced.

The Church is also allowing us to use their really nice baseball/softball field. Guys and gals, we have no equipment! Bring what ever you can, gloves, softballs, bats, what ever you can. Everyone will get a chance to play. Think how we can divide up teams? Big Block guys vs. Small blocks, west coast vs. everyone else J ???? DVJr has arranged to have a few light stands set up so we can play after dark. This should be a blast!
The Budweiser Vendor will be on site as well as Coke. Have a ball, get a little tipsy if you want, just remember your manners and that we WILL have video cameras placed everywhere! When the night finally comes to the end, no driving, you can simply walk or crawl, again your choice over to your hotel room.

My thoughts on our Friday night shindig; this is definitely adding up to be one of the best Fling party’s we have set up yet! We have acres of property vs. the Lodge that we outgrew two years ago. More than ample room for every body to meet, mingle, swap story’s and simply PARTY!

On to Saturday:
I’m out of time right now, but trust London will be welcoming us with open arms! I’ll be finishing up our agenda ASAP so just stay tuned. I promise you it only gets much better as time moves on!

CONTINUATION:

SATURDAY MORNING: We're letting you get a little more sleep this year, we don't need to meet at the Speedway Station (70 &42) until 9AM. Once again the Sheriff's Dept. will parade us into London. The difference here is it may well be a true parade. The City wants us to actually change our routes into town. This year we will actually be escorted right through the business/heart of London to our normal show off area. Seems the public has been demanding a "Proper Parade". Alrighty then...we can do that. All our normal events for Saturday in London will be pursued. Enjoy the hospitality of this wonderfull community, and the Strawberry Festival. Stop in at the open business's, these guys love to see us in town and are offering many discounts to anyone wearing a DVSF IV ID card. I think the Monday after these guys get together and argue about who had the most "Flingers" walk into their door.

Of course we will once again be tearing up the Streets of London, by giving the paying public rides. The London Police Chief and crew are really waiting for you with a few surprises of their own this year Around 2-3 O'clock, we'll pull out of London, once again as a group. For an hour or two you will be on your own! For those that aren't worn out, cruise as you will. For the others a suggestion; cruise back to the Hotels, rest, relax, and prep for Saturday nights event!

Once again stay tunned....
What has happened is numerous events that would take a week to explain. Saturday night has been planned, planned, and then planned again. We've been shut down at final meetings, after I might add, for weeks of being told -- wow, you guys really want to come here? Absolutely, yes...bring it on. Now it has turned into something like this: Phone Rings....DV, it's for you. Hello this is DV. DV this is so and so. We've heard about this amazing event that you put on, we'd really like to get involved and help anyway we can. ....

Logistics, LOCATION, Fun Factor, noise factor, raising money for Jenny and CF, safety and numerous other factors are all deciding factors in every event we try to bring the Cobra family.

Last week we had it locked in! Then another phone call. Now DV Jr., myself, the whole crew is in an uproar. Another offer came in. Jr. and I had a meeting today with the newest players and, well, we were both convinced that "IF" all comes to be as promised, we have to do this. Problem is, we need the OK from one more entity. We should have the yay/nay on this by 5 PM tomorrow. Personally I think this will turn into one of the most exciting events that we have ever been involved in!

Time will tell: NOTE fOR the new guys coming and for those that haven't made up their minds yet, honestly, we are normally all done with the planning, months before this! Just a few bumps in the road this year is all.

DV & Crew....If you come...you WILL come back!

DV,
So far, sounds great. I've never done a poker run before. Hopefully I'll be able to bring the wife along. So is the poker run an all day event? I'm on a conference call right now, but will try to give you a buzz soon.

Steve

Of course the wife can come! It will be an, almost all day event, filled with cruising, shopping, showing off, and of course eating.

I've never done a poker run before either, but what Rick has layed out it should be simply ---very, very cool. I fully expect at least one of the local TV stations to be following some of you around for most of the day!

As for the particular, how to's, full details, maps, times, etc., all will be included in your packet.

Get registered guys, it is time. IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS REGISTERING, call me at 740-852-5280. I will register you. BUT, please try the www.dvsf.com site first!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
DV... the clouds are starting to part!

Guys,
Dont let Rick's directions get you confused. This is really easy and all the information will be in the packets you receive at the Hotels.

Just updated the original thread above, adding Saturday . By tomorrow night I should have everything locked in.
Sunday is already done. That will be an event for everyone!

DV...We're almost done and it isn't even June yet! (sheeesh!)

Poker runs are great! Been on lots of 'em on our Harleys around Los Angeles area. Here's how they work:
1. Everyone gets a card sheet with 52 squares for the cards in a deck. (Dont lose your sheet!) Pick your first card, from a face-down deck, or in a paper bag, (say, 3 of Clubs), have it marked on your sheet.
2. Follow directions to the next stop. Pick another card. If you pick the 3 of Clubs again, it doesnt count, and you pick another card, and have it marked on your sheet.
3. Follow directions to the NEXT stop. Pick another card, etc etc.
4. Follow directions... pick another card, etc.
5. Follow directions....pick a card, etc......
6. Now you have five cards marked on your sheet. Depending on how many prizes are awarded, (High hand, low hand, etc,) the prizes are given out at the end.
The idea is just to get miles under your belt, see the scenery, enjoy everyone's company, and have a good time.
Usually, a few hundred bikers do the poker runs here in L.A. Remember, Bikes take up less space than cars, (even Cobras!), so parking isnt that big of a problem. Splitting the group into two is a good idea; three may be even better, due to the physical size of cars over bikes.
Extra cards may be bought for an additional fee, usually $1 a card. "Throw out" the least valuable card in your hand.
It MAY work out best, due to the size of Cobras over bikes, to have "Drive-thru" card pickings, for those who do not wish to, or need to, get out of the Cobras.
There is plenty of time for the Run to take place, so there is NO NEED to hurry or speed in any way, in order to finish the Run. Unless you like to drive your Cobra fast. And who likes to drive their Cobra fast!

It will be a blast!

Any questions, just let me know here!

DV,

Who else would work like a dog to put on this event?

It's been said before, but you deserve a big THANK YOU for all your time effort and enthusiasm.

To anyone who's never been to The Fling: If you like Cobras, this is the place to be. If you like Cobras and haven't made a decision yet, this is THE place to go to make up your mind. If you're someone for whom the sight and sound of a Cobra going by produces an embarrassing physical reaction (male or female), come to The Fling but bring a roll of paper towels.

Lowell,

I couldn't have said it better. Want to be the DVSF publicist agent?

Al, what is it you wanted to know about registration? You do it at www.dvsf.com and it is my understanding that we are ahead of last year!
