I hired a photograper that I flew in from Seattle to attend the fling. He's a CR owner and if anbody has seen the poster Classic in the City, of the yellow Cobra with the Seattle skyline that's his car. Anyway, we didn't do much on Friday so he had no clue the number of Cobras there until Saturday. I was working the CR booth and my wife was walking around the strawberry fest and she saw Martin pull up. She said he was like a kid in a candy store, didn't know where to look, jumping around and kept saying, "oh my God" I've never seen anything like this. He didn't know where to start or which way to go. He was nonstop all day and took over 1500 pictures. He is an absolutely fantastic photographer and some of the pictures are amazing. I'll get some of them and post. The one that stands out was a guy getting a ride in a Cobra right at the start line. His face looks like they are pulling about 6 G's, smashed back and wrinkled cheeks. He got some awesom pictures at the start line and at the end with the radar speed setup.

Talking A coupla "Stories"

First:
Some of you were wondering about media coverage. After waking early on Saturday morning (or was it Friday??), my wife and I were quietly sitting out on the patio sipping java, listening to the birds, and looking forward to the noisy snakes to come later.
We were staying with our good friend, Steph, and her 11 year old son, Matt, at her townhome about a mile north of the Hotels. All of a sudden young Matt explodes out the door yelling "the Cobras are on TV! Hurry, come look!!!" We darn near spilled coffee all over ourselves as we dashed back into the house just in time to catch Ed DV Combs live on TV, with microphone in hand, and "Elvis" taking off from a parking spot at one of the hotels in a maroon cobra, possibly DV I.
As Ed described the Fling and CF, "Elvis" suddenly reappeared at the opposite end of the parking alley and "squirted" the rear end around a bit as he slithered back up to the film crew. I guess they don't take a make up crew to the live news shoots, Ed. You looked pooped then already and the Fling was just beginning to roll into high gear!

I think this was on a Fox affiliate, 28(?). It was good publicity coverage, although it was about 6:15 am. Anyway, it was a delightful way to start a flingin' day.

Second:

On Sunday, we were facing a logistics problem. I had to be back in Missouri by a decent bedtime to get up at 4:00 am Monday for work. We trailered NAJA to allow our son to go to the Fling. We would be heading west on I-70 but didn't wish to return to the trailer at WalMart so NAJA rode to Deer Creek for the festivities. JerryH drove his truck along with us and as we arrived in the park we were greeted by several of the parking attendants. They were excited to see the first arrival, but seemed concerned and disappointed to see it on a trailer. I truly believe they freaked out thinking they had misunderstood the plan and that all of the Cobras would be arriving "by delivery"!!! I explained I just needed a place to unload, and they obliged, helping in any way they could. After we got NAJA unloaded and the truck and trailer tucked out of the way, Jerry and I jumped in the car. In the words and accent of "the Arnold", I told the attendants "I'll be Back" and we headed to the parking lot exit. The attendant at that end was grinning from ear to ear and rapidly rolling his hand in the universal Cobra sign language translated as "LITE 'EM UP!" I asked the fellow if there were any law enforcement present and he said "yeah, but they are way back over at the other end of the lot". I looked at Jerry, who is just about to get his FFR on the road, and I could tell by the grin on his face that he was reading my mind! So . . . we QUICKLY "slithered out" and exited stage left! We headed on in to Mt. Sterling to meet the escorted cruise. After the slithering snakes had rolled past, we joined in behind the convoy and arrived back at the park. The attendants must have remembered NAJA. They said they had saved a spot for us and then proceeded to flag us all the way back to the parking spot at the "Employee of the Month" sign!

I think they want all of us, and more of us, back next year, what do you think?

Don, so that was the guy! I saw him EVERYWHERE. Glued to that camera. He and MidOhASP need to hook up.

Great story Naja and so we where on TV! Sound like a cool segment. Any one have it that they can post?

Al, Steve got TP'd! Yes that is right folks, toilet papered. They took their time about it to. Wrapped the roll bar and everything. I don't recall any thing about trash though. Listening to Steve tell the story it was not any thing malicious.

DV the big suprise was when Steve stumbled into the bathroom first thing in the morning to rid himself of some 'sliders' and then reached for the TP..............

I heard that. Don, I lost the flyer you gave me (might find it in my trunk if I dig real deep) - is there any way you can get me his number or get him in touch with me? Apparently he has some good pics of my car??

Thanks...
JP

My DVSF story was suggesting to Ed, and offering to organize, an old fashioned family picnic. Ended up at Deer Creek.

Of course I couldn't make it to the Fling this year .....

Next year ....

My story does not start at but winds up at the fling kinda....

Starts out on Fathers day sunday.

Tooling down route 12 headed to Lake Geneva Wisc.

following Marty in his red w/ white stipes.

Oops what was that? front right tire starts pulling....

Oh cr@p flat, flat flat. Now what? No jack , no spare, ?????

Wait, I hear kids playing yeah, there it's coming from over that ridge! Peering over the ridge there is a mom giving the kids rides
on the quad.
She comes to the fence, I ask if she may have a jack?
"Well my husband has one in the garage. but it's kinda heavy
it's a floor jack." OK !!! what luck!
Wait what the .... can't get it under the frame with the tire low and leaning off the road it's too low. Darn it!
Now her husband standing by the fence says whats a matter?
I explain , then ask Do you have maybe a couple of 2 x 12's or anything to raise the tire up, so we can slip the jack under.
"Nope no 2 x 12's but how bout a ramp?"
Man how lucky can you get?
Now there's a Walmart down the road. yep they have tire patch, some air, and back to the car .
Get the wheel on give them their jack and ramp back, and off we go.
These folks would not take a cent from us and turned down my invitation to dinner. Would not hear of it.

Seriously though, these folks helped us out big time !!
Well their kids liked our cars so much we picked the family up some T shirts from the fling and a couple of die cast cobras to send them. Maybe they can talk Dad into selling his 69 chevelle
and buying a real car (replica of course)
