DVSFIV stories, post them here!
LOTS of great stories from DVSFIV so post them all here!
I heard a few that hopefully those involved will embellish upon:
- Cobras corralling a viper
- Cobras at the state capital
- The guy that once his car was down for the weekend parted out his car so that others could continue
Let the story telling begin!!!!!

Rick:
I was the guy who Fred was going to give his clutch cable to get mine back on the road. What a man. It happened just as we were leaving Jegs (our last stop on the poker run). As fate would have it, they would end up having the very part I needed to get it back on the road. The story goes like this (Sorry not as good as Hal's so just bear with me). We were getting ready to get onto 71 to head back to the Hotels and get ready for later. I came out of the gate still in 1st got to about 45 shift but no second gear. The clutch would not engage. A few things could be wrong 1 cheap and somewhat easy the rest very expensive and not very easy.It ended up being the cheap and not so easy. But I would not know the problem until I could get under the car & take a look with the chance of being run over back at DV's shop. Unknown by me, Fred was trying to win the unofficial burnout contest back at the Hotels. He ended up leaving more clutch smoke than tire smoke as I've been told... not good. So Sid thought we would take a chance and see if it would work by taking Fed's cable out and putting it in mine. Mine ended up being a different setup than Fred's (later model) and I was not going to butcher up a good cable on the chance it might work. to get mine running when I knew Fred would need it eventually. Needless to say didn't get much sleep Friday night trying to come up with options and the last one being make a call to Bro-in-law to bring the trailer. Granted it was not a far trip for me but I wanted to come to OH He probably didn't but he would if I asked him to. So after several phone calls and help from some friends and Chris to provide transportation to get the part. The car was up and running at 12:30 and got to London about 1:15 after a brief stop at the Hotels to drop off Chris's car and get back to London. Life was getting better. It's all about family what you guys did and were willing to do for me I am very humbled. Thank you. I don't know a more sincere way to say thank you. Fred you deserved that tool box man.

I think we ought to have DV tell the story about the Viper and the Cobras. He did such a good job with the story at the presentation in the Lodge.

Chris, Excessive1, was part of the group that corralled the Viper and told me the story. Since Chris doesn't post very much, I will tell it like he told me:
A group of five or six Cobras where getting on I-70, minding their own business. A Viper was on the ramp following them. The Cobras pull in line in the right lane just cruising on to their destination. The Viper pulls out a lane and stands on it at the end of the ramp and flys by them at about 80. If you know Chris, you know that this is not to be stood for! So he drops a gear, puts the hammer down and blows by the Viper at about 120! Once past he lets off and looks for the Viper in the rear view mirror. The Viper is now surrounded on ALL sides by the remaining Cobras. Appairently they circle the Viper a time or two and then pull back into the right lane to continue the Cobra cruise. The Viper, slows way down, pulls in behind the Cobras, in the rear where he belongs and stays there!
Man would I love to have footage of that one!

One of our group got seperated from the rest of the group in dowtown Columbus when we were going to Jegs. He had no idea where we were, so he shut off his engine and listened for the sounds of 30+ Cobras. It was surprisingly easy for him to locate us from there and he rejoined the group........I knew those loud pipes were good for something other than dusting Vipers off the road!!

I was downtown at the Strawberry Festival, eating some of the Ruggles free ice cream; I was wearing one of my black shirts, the one with the "blacklight" Cobra on it, and I was wearing my Medusa-like Cobra hat.
I watched 5 or 6 Queens of the faire, (Miss Rutabaga, Miss Strawberry, etc etc) walk down the street, look at me and my shirt and hat, point, giggle, and continue on their merry way. Couple of minutes later, they came back and asked if I would pose for a picture with them: the 5 Festival queens, and this 6'8" (with hat!) Cobra freak. Of courseI obliged, and they were quite thrilled with their picture. I am kicking myself in that I did not ask for a print to be mailed back to me.
I probably posed for 20 photos with people's kids.

Edley,
I have many pictures of you on my movie camera and hope to get some into the final movie to be sold for Team Jenny. Next time you should charge for pictures taken so you could also donate to Team Jenny and of course I will be looking forward to your new Cobra shirts and Hats, at next years event(only one month to wait).
One of the more interesting stories was when Ed told of Jenny’s condition with CF. It seems Jenny is on an experimental drug which has kept her out of the hospital other than her normal visits this past year. I just hope that the Cobra community’s donations for the past four years had a little something to do with bringing about this experimental drug to help all children stricken with CF.
The California group was missed, especially as the triple X T Shirt sales were way down.

Rick Dorman referred to the Cobras in front of the Ohio State Capitol in starting this thread, and I was there.
One of poker run stages had us running through downtown Columbus on Friday, and the route took us right past the Capitol building. One of our CACCers in a just finished, unpainted FFR, started hearing a nasty suspension noise coming from the left front, and decided to pull over right in front of the Capitol (obviously a no parking zone). Of course, about 7-8 other Cobras joined him to help.
It was quite a sight and obviously was attracting quite a bit of attention. The State Highway Patrol showed up quickly, and a crowd began gathering. They very nicely set up flashing lights behind to protect us.
The senior officer approached me, and asked, "What the heck is going on with all these Cobras running through town.....we've had a couple hundred through there this morning and afternoon?" He said people had been calling them all day. I told him about DVSF, CF, and Team Jenny, and he said, "Wow that is very cool......thanks, I'll make sure we explain that to everyone."
As we were getting ready to leave, a couple of state legislators came up as I was getting in my car, and asked me the same question. One of them knew an astounding amount about Carroll Shelby and Cobras. I gave him the same answer, and he said, "that's wonderful, God bless you all." Wish I'd gotten his name. Every state needs legislators like that, and he deserved to be supported by our fraternity.
I'm just p....d, I didn't get any pictures, and I don't think anyone else did either. We were a little busy........
BTW, the FFR just needed a little grease in the ball joint, and he was fine....drove it all the way back to DC.

That is great Clay! Thanks for posting it. So they really said they have had people calling all day? Then it worked.
When I picked the route, I had a bit of a secret agenda. I wanted to let Central Ohio know we where here! Plus, people like the state, city of Columbus, Jegs, etc have been pretty much ignoring us, at least have not been much involved so I thought what better way to give them a taste than to park it on there doorstep! Next year, we will know if it worked or not!
It suprises me how much you need to bang on some folks heads before they get who and what we are. I don't recall hearing of anything on the news locally. I thought for sure they would hear about all the cars tearing up central Ohio and put something on the news about it.
Obviously I also wanted to give our guests, all of you, a taste of Central Ohio as well.
I KNOW there has to be a bunch more stories out there! Ones that are clean enough to post that is!

Hot laps around the state house!? Open up Mayor Colemans yard for overflow parking? Sounds as though at least the word is out. I wonder who was getting called and how they fealt about not knowing what is going on in their own town. For shame!
It isn't for lack of trying folks. I know personally I have sent multiple notes to the travel folks, mayor and governors office, various bureaus but never a reply.

Here is another story. Although I am not much of a story teller!
DV warned all of us in so many words that the Forest Ranger/Troupers at the park on Sunday would indeed stop us if we where not obeying the traffic laws at the state park. Naturally, being the law abiding citizens we are we wanted to cooperate. But would prefer of course more antics like we are permitted in London when we give the paying public a ride. After a little while, so I am told, the troopers showed up and told us they where leaving and what time they would be back! Basically giving us free run of the place!
It was shortly there after the sound of screaming tires could be heard over the peaceful Ohio country side.
Something sure seemed to peak the publics interest. The lines in London for rides where long and the cars where going off as fast as they could load them. It even got to the point where they just had to shut it down because it was time to leave and there where people that just didn't end up being able to take a ride. I don't know how many rides where given but if it was not a new record I would really be suprised.

Did you try the news media? In my career experience, that's the quickest way to get the attention of elected officials. At the recent Unique Homecoming, they had alerted a Montgomery, Alabama NBC affiliate, who had a camera crew and pictures on the Friday night 6pm and 11pm local news.

Yep, been there, done that. Seems to me there was some television coverage but I have not heard nor seen it. Of course I was busy having fun and not watching television.
Our local NBC ran spots for us the last couple of years. But our contact there is no longer there and I don't think they did anything this year. We will just keep after them until they wear down!

Yeah, it definitely helps to find a friend at a station. In my business, we make sure we keep our friends in the media well fed, so that they're there when we need them.
