Paul and tfarhood,
Paul is right. I've experienced things you all have not.
Period.
But furthermore, my last post may have come across in a way I hadn't intended. My "don't take the 'I'm the boss'" statement was NOT meant to say "You always take the 'I'm the boss' attitude" in the slightest.
It was only meant to say, "Ed, as long as you don't do that, I can't possibly see a reason people aren't going to like what you have to say on Sunday."
Paul and tfarhood (again)...
Can you think of one reason any reasonable person wouldn't like what Ed has to say on Sunday if he doesn't take that attitude? My post was purely in response to Ed's comment of some not liking what he's going to say.
WHY wouldn't people like what he has to say? We are all generally good people here. If Ed is already making the assumption that people aren't going to like what he has to say, I wonder what it is he's planning to say, you know?
The blind support here for Ed is heartwarming. But for crying out loud, he is an adult and can stick up for himself. I don't think anyone is attacking him. Yet these posts keep popping up saying, "Hey JP, don't say that! You can't do that!!"
Get off the soap box. I got off mine a while ago. My last post was an attempt at reassurance. My point was that barring Ed coming out swinging with an "I'm the boss" attitude, things were going to be fine.
Ever have a situation where you're ready to load up the reliable family cruiser and go on vacation and you say, "Barring the car blowing up or some other unforseen catastrophe, we'll be there in 6 hours." ?? Or something similar to that?? It's a lot like that. It's not like you think the Accord is actually going to throw a rod on the way to Wally World. It's just kind of a saying.
I'll stand by the point that the people who know me aren't telling me to keep my comments to myself, because they know where I'm coming from and what my attitude in life generally is.
In the mean-time, though, read each post very carefully, and if you don't understand where I'm coming from, or you think I'm off base, you're as entitled to that as I am.
One thing I haven't done that YOU have and OTHERS have is tell me to shut up or to keep my comments to myself. That is the moderator's job if he believes that I am off base or being rude or vulgar or nasty.
It is not your job as a member of the general population, same as me, to police this forum, make assumptions about what my objectives are here, and to silence me.
I'm sure you guys are good guys, same as I am. But I'm getting sick of getting policed here. Seems like most people are on my side, which isn't a side at all. Just that most don't seem to think I'm doing such a horrendous thing.
I'll say again, the blind support for Ed is just heartwarming. One could call me an Ed supporter, too, with everything I did last year to try to help DVSF IV. Not much of it materialized, but you know...I've worked hand-in-hand with Ed, too. I think everyone thinks they're the only one who has.
Thanks for listening, guys.

This is my point. I just had trouble putting it into words.
Sorry Turk, for quoting you, but you said what I've been meaning to say and couldn't get on "paper."
This is what it is all about, for those of you that think all of us who have raised questions are bad guys.

JP, it was not my intention to police you, in anyway and I don't mean to imply that you are a bad guy by asking questions. If you read my post carefully, you will see that I said until DV does come off as "being the boss", which in my opinion he has not yet done so, then you should keep your comments like that to yourself. You made my point for me with your metaphor about the car blowing up. The car probably will not blow up so why make the wife and kids all upset by mentioning it. Keep it to yourself until it happens. No need to introduce unnecessary fear and anxiety into the family vacation.
As of yet, DV has not come off as "the boss" so why even bring up the point or make the warning to him about "being boss" . That was all that I was trying to say. Sorry, if I offended you, it was not my intention to do so.

Paul,
I think our major misunderstanding here is who I'm telling that the car may blow up. It is my buddy John, who is at my final destination, and can take the joke. I wouldn't upset the wife and kids. Good point.
Applying that to here, maybe I shouldn't have said anything.
I'm not offended, and I'm hoping you aren't, either. I'm not a bad guy, I promise.
You and I, we're OK with each other.

JP
I've got a pretty thick skin and don't offend easily. Besides, you didn't say anything to offend me anyway.
No problems on this end. Thanks for your explaination.

You are from Canada. I'd think you'd have to have a thick skin.

Is Ed off the roof?
I followed Ed up on the roof Saturday. After waiting over two months to get a roofer to answer his phone for a little repair work needed after a visit by Hurricane Charlie my buddy and I decided it was time to repair our own roofs. Hell, they didn’t have enough roofers in our area before Charlie to do roofing. When you reach 65 and retired you would rather pay than do it yourself, plus today my body feels like I have Polio, I was actually giving it some thought to have the wife type this for me. I actually wanted to set one of the original facts straight about the first Fling. Dan Semko said if I was coming all the way from Florida to join in the first family picnic I had to bring Key Lime pie. I knew there was a local company that shipped there pies and cheesecake all over the country. I went to the Naples Cheesecake Co. and asked if I could get a Key Lime pie shipped to Ohio. They said that at that time of the year it’s to hot and they didn’t ship anything for a couple of months, plus Key Lime pie wouldn’t hold up well so she introduced me to Key Lime Cheesecake. I wound up buying four large cheesecakes that were cut into 64 slices each for a total 256 pieces. I put them in a 12 volt cooler and hand delivered them to Ed’s house before the first big weekend Fling. The cheesecakes were never intended to try and out do the chocolate cookies but I do remember that the cheesecake was gone as soon as DV and his crew put them on the table. Every time I see Ed he tells me he never got to try the cheesecake, sorry Ed.

For all 3,000 plus reading this, it's Sunday, October something, 3:20 PM EST in Meechigan. I have spent the last hour plus printing all 180 plus/minus pages of this threat. As important as responding to these threads is to me, and apparently to many others, I simply have run out of time today. This IS important. Many major changes to the DVSF are already in the works, but getting my building ready for the inspections has top priority at the moment. I will certainly get to some of the points I feel are most important tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.
Casaleenie- Thank you! I swear I haven't laughed that hard since we, OK, they caught our Sniper! I really needed that right now.

P.S. Holes in the girths, roof are for the boiler installation. "Intake - Exhaust". Had to get off the metal roof when the rain turned into sleet, and 40 plus mph winds were giving me more of a thrill than I wanted!

Good news is, sleet is rarely accompanied by lightning. What is the big deal??

I sure hope your quote above was fast typing and threat was meant to be thread, but I still can’t wait to hear your replies.
I lived 58 years in Cleveland and the weather there also stinks and that’s why I only go back to visit in June (Spring Fling). Actually Ed it’s too bad you didn’t pick Florida for your new adventure all you have to do is build a structure and roof that will with stand 250 miles an hour winds for the Hurricane season, plus we need more honest gear heads doing business in Florida.

DV,
The wife, DVSFIII "door prize" , and I have just spent the past week in the Bahamas sunning ourselves, so I've missed this whole thread. First day back to work doesn't allow me time to read it all right now (kinda like punishment for going away).
Anyhow, like always, my family and I are more than willing to help however possible. PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me, sign me up or whatever. I'll try to read the whole thread later. My wife and I had suggestions, but they may have already been laid out on previous pages.
Steve
