Well then, I guess you have no reason to go. It's enough for me to go hang out in the parking lot and have a good time. If we get to drive our cobras in some organized fashion, that's even better. If I get to know someone that I didn't before, that's great too. I don't understand some of you being so negative about an event that is so much fun. If it's not your cup of tea, then don't go, but why be negative? Why try to ruin it for others that are looking forward to it? I just don't understand......

Cranky,
I think you've answered your own question. Come to think of it you are the answer as well.
This came up two years ago and your priorities were the same then as they appear to be now.

I smell burning poop in here, too.
Seems like if you don't want to go, you should not go, and shut up.
If you want to go, make a suggestion, or shut up and enjoy what there is to offer.
Nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head.
Egads!

Hotfingers,
How about heading over to Put N Bay? That would be neat.
Another lake spot would be Whiskey Island. I do think that arranging a car show at the Rock hall on Sat would be great as well.
Maybe for Fri night, there is a Quaker Stake in Sheffield that i s always hoppin..just some ideas

The only thing I can say about P-I-B is that the speed limit on the island is 25 mph.....beautiful place to be, without a Cobra.

South Bass aka Put-In-Bay ferry won't usually allow you to return with your car the same day you take it over. They discourage same day round trips with cars.
Kelleys Island (next island to the east) does allow round trips and a shorter boat ride. It's only a half hour trip and lots of boats running at peak season..

For what it's worth, P-I-B may be a good thing. Sounds like some people are talking about the people and camaraderie being the most important thing, getting away from the Cobras for a while.
Can't think of a better way - get everyone on a Ferry, go over, drive around on golf carts, drink beer, go to the world's longest bar, check out the wimmins, etc... leave the Cobras out of it. You can sober up by puking over the railing on your way back over to the main land.
If people keep trumpeting the tune of "it's about the people, screw the cars", make some P-I-B suggestions for people to explore.

J.P.
It is about the people but it was the common interest in the Cobra that got us together and of course the chocolate chip cookies.

The Roundhouse Bar on Put-in-Bay's ..."Innocent looking isn't it". (T-shirt with a pic of the bar on it)
Only half the people who go into that bar ever return.
Very very bad place....
http://www.theroundhousebar.com/
Very, very dangerous.
I've been having flashbacks for the past nine years about my last trip to "the Bay". I remember getting there, I just don't remember leaving.....
More fun than a human being should have... Stay away....

Hotfingers,
I think a lot of people would enjoy doing something" different"rather then the whole weekend being " rural"..The Bay would be fun on Sat afternoon to have a car show there, camp out on lawn chairs, and enjoy the day. What about Kelley's island?
Poker run at the Bay on Fri? That would be neat!
Also, if you were looking for a picnic atmoshere for Sun, what about Vermillion?
Did you decide on a charity yet? I was thinking since you are a fireman, what about the charity being for one of the burn units?
I do appreciate all of your efforts in organizing the fling this year, and I hope you are keeping an open mind with our suggestions. I'm just trying to incorporate something really fun with the isalnds or downtown to give all of our out-of-towners to enjoy and make them want to come back to Cleveland!!

Kelleys Island
Jack,
If an island is a consideration then Kelleys Island would be a better destination. Put-In-Bay is a lot more fun but the cars would be a problem. Kelleys could do a whole ferry load of cars all at once and I'm sure the island would be very receptive to a cruise. The baseball field is just a five minute walk from the downtown area and has a pavillion and restrooms. I'm sure something could be put together at one or two of the bars/restaurants to cater a meal and soft drinks for the designated drivers. A round trip to the island with Cobra and your favorite wife/passenger is $40. Should be three ferrys running at that time of year plus we could reserve a boat just for the Fling. I could solicit a special ferry rate but not sure it would fly.
A trip to the Bay is a good idea but it wouldn't allow for the cars.
Just have the Fling committee let me know if you want me to pursue it.

Al,
Actually the island thing is being looked at as we speak. It would pretty much be an all day event on Saturday. Poker run on Friday and autox on Sunday. We're trying to make Saturday, just a day of getting to together, drinking, shopping for the gals at the island stores, and lounging around and watching the island goers make fools of them selves at the bars....not that our group would ever do anything like that.
