Jack,
I'm just one lone voice, but having talked to many others, and as you saw, lots of people want the autox. The driving events are the most fun, at least for me. Is there any way possible to have the SCCA do the autox on Saturday? Many people, including me, head home fairly early on Sunday, 'cause I gotta go to work on Monday. If the autox is early Sunday morning, I think we're OK. But it would be a shame for people to miss it because they have a long drive home and have to leave early.

Jack,
I think going to the islands all day on Sat would be a blast. Definatly something for everyone there, including our ladies. In speaking with other fling goers, this is a great idea. Let us know what you are coming up with for this.

Steve-Jack,
We think that the Autox would be great to do on Sun morning.Islands would still be great for Sat. Just taking in consideration the interests of everyone!

We?
Who is "WE"?
Seems like you have been around this place since 2005 (5 posts ago) and involved in the Fling Thing, and we are supposed to know who "YOU" are.
You have used up two or three of those to come after me and Cranky.
If "YOU" would be kind enough to tell "US" who "YOU" are, it would go a long way in bringing a lot more credibility to "WHAT" you are promoting and "WHY"!

Permission
I want to come to the Cleveland playground, but I'm not sure my credentials are sufficient.
I've owned a Cobra for 11 years.
My wife shares the Cobra passion almost as deeply as I.
I've actually been a registered member of this site for about 3 years, but recently re-registered under a new user name. The reason for re-registering is kind of boring.
I have an enclosed trailer and a dually.
I'm 52 years old.
I have 6 grandchildren.
Do I qualify?
Who should I ask for permission to attend?
Will I be subjected to vehement verbal lashings if I suggest fun things to do during DVSFV?
(autox would be fun)
Uh oh, am I in trouble already?
David

First of all, welcome David, and hope to see you up in Cleveland,
I do beleive however, that the playground is in Calafornia..
Turk,
I refuse to get involved in any of your games. My purpose to this forum is to express some ideas towards the upcoming fling, and to get a feel for what ideas other members are shooting out there. I am sorry that you are so unhappy with life, the fling, whatever it may be, but please, there is no need to trash talk those of us who are supporting this transition.
As to your question about who I am, never mind. I am a loyal member, and decided not to post any info after viewing all of the personal attacks and nasty posts exchanged within the group. Just not getting involved with that, and keeping my class.

Islands? Shopping?
If you want to swim, knock yourself out. If you want to check out women, have fun. If you want to go shopping, then there really is no hope for you.
For cryinoutloud, is this, or is this not, to be a Cobra gathering? The real Cobras raced. They looked awesome, in a time of awesome cars. Autox, drag racing, shows in a parking lot are just the way it should be. People - owners and lookers alike - DO make these things go.
My drive out is 8, going on 9 hours. Same going back. Swimming/ogling/SHOPPING can be done at home. Do the autox on Saturday, followed by a gathering in the Holiday Inn that nite. Do quiet things, if you MUST, on Sunday. That's what it's for.
Swimming, ogling, and (gawd...) shopping do NOT make it, and do not belong. If your woman can't handle these cars and people for 48 hours, TELL HER TO STAY HOME.

For what it's worth...
I always felt that, on a weekend event, that any car-thrashing activity, like AutoX, should be early in the schedule... to allow anything that broke to get fixed before getaway day.
...and, do I understand this? ...that the Saturday event...the cornerstone of the weekend...is being considered this way:
..to leave the cars at the hotels all day and take a ferry to an island on the Lake? ? ? ?
..are you sure about that?

Jack -
There is faith out here for what you have in mind.
PLEASE - do not be diverted from what these events truly represent.
If I want to see Cleveland and surroundings, I will make plans to do so.
If, however, I choose to go to the Fling, Cobras - and Cobra-related activity - MUST be the itinerary. NOT islands, NOT shopping, NOT swimming.....you get the point.
Computerworks is utterly correct. Racer X is utterly correct. Friday and Saturday are the meat of this, and belong to Cobra use. Friday nite and Saturday nite are equally vital, and belong to Cobra people.
If there is a special interest group here, it's very, very apparent. And it ain't anything else.

My point exactly Mr. Class,
Ask for input and accept only those that coincides with what you wanted to do all along.
I am not interested in playing games. I could have easily said, "what a great idea" and your response would have been totally different.
I have had basically one and only one objection to these type of events. Whether it is Fling by DV or any other event.
You either put one together with no input from anyone, and ask for attendance, or you put one together catering to those attending by asking them what they want to do.
If you pretend to be putting one and honestly interested in what WE want to do, you don't hardline it and say if you don't like it you don't have to go".
We just got back from Las Vegas SAAC meeting. We had a blast. All 25 or so of us. They didn't ASK us what we wanted to do. They put it together and gave us the option to attend or not to attend. We had a ball. It was someone else's event, and plans were made by others. Decision was simple. Go or don't.
We went, and I am glad we did. Nowhere did we get involved in the planning. It is not a must for us..
However these activities around this Fling thing seem to solicit input, and then get slapped on the face when some are made and rejected if they don't fit the profile of what is already planned.
I am rather quite happy with MY life. This is a forum to discuss, and not question the questioners.
With that attitude your contributions to this event will not amount to much. You already know there is a controversy surrounding these events, and that "take it or leave it" attitude may have you scratching your head in a few months as to what happened.
Have a nice day.

Turk
Jack asked for input- I gave him input.I gave him input that was gathered from a group of us fling goers. In defense to Jack,I don't see you spending hours, weeks, and months of your time trying to plan this event. Instead, you are spending your time complaining and trying to disrupt things. you said you were happy with your life- you need to have one in order to be happy with one.
Funny thing is, even if the fling was put together without any input, you still would be cryin like a baby, like a lot of us have witnessed you doing at past events.I said this before, but don't go if you don't like what you are hearing/seeing. Even though I made suggestions, that's all they were....suggestions. Unlike you, I have fun with everyone and have an open mind to trying new things. I will not be upset with anything we do, just happy that the gathering will still exist.

To All-
Please, can we just act like grown adults? The purpose of this site is informational, as well as having fun. I feel that throat thrashing is not a good way to make this fling a fun and succussful events. Maybe the moderators should start removing such posts off this site.

jpeajkon: Read your prior post (you know........the one where you were throat thrashing Turk). Perhaps THAT post should be the 1st one that the moderators remove?
I would very much like to attend a Cobra gathering this year and wouldn't mind going to Ohio since that's where I grew up. I've spent a lot of vacation time in Put-n-Bay, Kelly's Island, and Cedar Point. Earlier post reflecting these areas as being "fun" are all true. Great bars at PIB, shopping (although it's mostly T-shirt shops), fishing, boating, beautiful girls walking around in bikini tops, etc.....etc....... are all there. But CARS? NO. Golf carts rule the Islands, and that's about as fast as you can drive there anyway (golf cart speed). That means we would have to leave our Cobra's on the mainland (unattended), and what fun is that? If people want to take a vacation to PIB, or Cedar Point (BTW, unquestionably the BEST coaster park in the world!) then set aside some time for a "family vacation" to those locations on another date. This gathering should be concentrated on our CARS and what we all have in common with them, NOT about getting plastered in some bar on an Island where police (in plain clothes) LOVE handing out tickets to folks walking around with beer (believe me, I know) and where we can't drive our Cobra's as we would like to. Heck, we really can't drive them there AT ALL.
Put things together that involve our cars, for crying' out loud. I can hang out with friends at bars ANYTIME. But making new friends with COBRA'S.............now THAT'S something that doesn't happen everyday.

i agree with terryspf and a couple of others, the Islands don't cut it for me.
..i have been to PIB 18 of last 22 yrs for the ILYRA 'bay week' sailboat regatta for several days each time, and returned for weekend parties other times. no place for cars and not a venue of interest to me for a cobra gathering. in fact, when we have had a 'racer chaser' van on the island during the regatta's we had to show proof of hotel reservations just to get the van on the ferry. always nice on PIB to have dinner at the Boardwalk, buy nautical nick nack stuff for the home at the Cargo Net, kick back at the Commodore hotel at night and have a brew or multiples thereof at the Beer Barrel...but for a cobra weekend, not for me...
now, for someone that wants to spend a couple of hours there on sunday before they return home. a great stop over for a few hours of a power tour...leave the car in port clinton at the docks and take the jet ferry across...ah, leave the car at the docks. well, that is something i would not do either, at least not my spf.
my guess is many of the northern ohio folks have been there too, been there done that...
opinions are like rear ends and butt orifices, every one has one..guess this one is mine. bill.

Well I guess this proves you can’t please everyone. Jack and his club (Lake Snakes Cobra Club) only asked for input for a weekend of fun with Cobra enthusiasts, but Jack and his club will actually choose what is going to happen in June. We seem to have posters here that said on other threads they have chosen to go to London on this same weekend but evidently want to tell those that have chosen the Double Venom Spring Fling how it should be run. We all know by now why Ed turned the event over to Jack’s club. It’s really to bad the first thing to come out of it was this division and two events being held on the same weekend, where we all lose. We have people posting that because of all the hostilities and there being more than one event and places they will be staying home and not attending either event, again we all lose. Every time one of us posts we are only giving one mans opinion and can’t possible speak for the entire group. I’m willing to give Lake Snakes Cobra Club my individual vote as to what will be happening on the weekend of June 24th-26th, I’m sure it will be another great weekend for Cobra enthusiasts.

No doubt. I feel the same way.
But please - be clear on why we come. There are lots of malls and beaches everywhere.

Dan,
I mean no disrespect to anyone trying to do what they can to make folks happy. I have already stated that I will return to London. The place where it all started. I was totally surprised that Ed turned the event over to someone else and never once asked the "DVSF Family " what we preferred. Ed has always maintained that it was OUR party not his and we would make the choices. Well what the heck happened? Now we are looking at this like it's the Hatfields and the McCoys. People already had their reservations in London before this decision and nobody seemed to care. Taking the event to another locale would be fine if that's what the majority wanted but we never had that choice. This to me was the biggest issue of all. I find it hard to believe that someone living in the London area could not have carried on with the planning of the events. I don't know what the deal is with the clubs in that area but it sure seems they should have been able to step up and help Ed.
I 'm sticking with the original plans started by Ed. I see many folks feel the same as I. London did good by us and we owe them that much.
Hersh
