Terrys SPF,
I am not sure where you got that I wanted to go get trashed at the bars..no where did I say that. Beleive me, I want the weekend to be about the cars too, but the islands was just an idea and I think you need to relax. It's not my decision, not your's, it's Jack's. As I mentioned before, I am just happy that there is a fling this year.
As far as the comment about throat thrashing Turk..? Come on, he's been nothing but a disturbance on this topic from the get go. Have you seen other posts on this thread from him as well as other members? Obviously, a lot of members are frustrated with this transition,I understand, just remember the first fling in Columbus had a few rocks in the road as well. Let's keep an open mind..

Sounds like a weekend of fun coming up here
TerrySPF
Would be good if the 'Moderator' could remove some of the "Posts" or people from this "Thread" who appear to be argumentative and disruptive.
Guess though, that it will be harder to get them tossed out of Clevland when they turn up ready to biitch and complain..
.....have fun
..cruising in our sun
Guess I commenting as I will be at one of the events in Ohio prior to going back to California for the SAAC.
..
Cheers
Bernie

Easy there boy,
First it was "my unhappy life". Now I am crying like a baby..
Do you have something intelligent to say? Say it, stop focusing on me. I am interested in the quality and friendliness of the events I attend, and want to give maximum input for myself and my friends.
You on the other hand want to decide for everyone.
Do you not GET it that this event, regardles of who is organizing it, is NOT their event?
Can you be that dense?
Now get of my back and go do something constructive yourself!!

jpea: I don't think I'M the one that needs to relax here. My comments were not directed solely at your post. Others made mention of bars / drinking and shopping. No doubt, PIB is a fun place to go if you like to shop for T-shirts and go bar hopping, but is it the thing to do for a Cobra gathering? We can't even take our cars there, and believe me, you don't want to leave your car in the parking lot on the mainland.
I simply put my .02 cents into the pot, that's all. You said it yourself - Jack asked for suggestions / comments on what we thought. I simply gave mine.
Yes, I've read all the post regarding this topic and have seen Turk's comments as well. He would be the first to tell you that I don't always agree with what he has to say, but (IMO) he's made some good points. Sure, he can be a real "Gashole" at times, but he's been around here for a long time and I've learned to respect his views. You on the other hand, haven't been here long enough for me to KNOW your views let alone respect them. Doesn't mean that won't come in time, and I hope you stick around here long after the 'Fling has come and gone to share your thoughts / experiences with Cobra's and all else............but, so far, you aren't making a very good impression by ripping into senior CC members with a grand total of 12 post to your name. If you really AREN'T a new member here (and just changed your name) then at least come clean and tell us who you are.
Don't get me wrong.........I'm by no means suggesting that you can't say whatever you want. That's not for me to say; that's up to the moderators. But if you cut the throats of people that make comments that you don't happen to agree with, then (as you've already found out) you have to expect to get cut yourself. That's just the way it is.
Going on Turk's comments, I think we are ALL concerned about the quality and friendliness of the event. And, I believe he was correct by pointing out that if you ask for suggestions, you may get more than you bargained for. You simply cannot please all of the people all of the time. Sure, you can take in some ideas from others, but this is usually what ends up happening when you do that. Just give people an outline / list of activities that are going to take place and allow folks to decide for themselves whether they want to attend or not. Some may choose to go to London, some to Cleveland, but as ugly as this is getting, a lot may choose to pass on BOTH......... and that's a shame.
In fact, I for one, am sorry to see that both these events are taking place on the same weekend. Every year, a number of people (due to schedule conflicts) cannot make it that weekend. Why not spread the wealth around a little and offer 2 great Cobra gatherings at different times? Heck, some folks may even be able to attend BOTH that way! TWO huge Cobra gatherings in one year..........What a summer THAT would be!

Well with everyone putting in on thi why not me. I have been to 3 Flings and loved each and every one. I have to say that The area around London is some of the best roads for rallys or pokers runs that you could find (over Cleveland). Will the city of Cleveland allow 400 Cobras take over the entire downtown??? Will they allow us to run WIDE OPEN down a drag strip on a main street with nothing but a strip of caution tape between us and a lawsuite????WOW!!!
I hate to see all this crap between people who should be getting together for the love of cars/cobras/horsepower. Butt will a big city open up it's arms to a group like small town U.S.A. would? Thank-you and good night Joe

Racer X says:
"I don't even like Cobras and we have more than enough right here that I don't care to look at."
Even a NEW guy understands enough to know THAT kind of statement (and others) on COBRA Web site is just asking for trouble. DUH!! 5 posts or 5000 posts, the answer is obvious.
I support Racers freedom of speech, I also support opposing views (from new or old)!

John from Tuscon, if your going to base your decision on THIS thread and think all is "peachy keen" on the London side, then you need some "equal time" to make your decision.
Try the link, if you think the current thread is wierd, you aint seen nothing yet!

You know, I don't think you would have to orginize anything. Just show up in London and the people there will do the rest. They want us there . They will bend over backwards to keep us there.
Forgetting all the town did for us and not leaving the Fling there was a travisty. It was a mistake with huge consequence. Now we got all this crap happening when we should all be working to stay together IN LONDON. There was nothing wrong with the way it was from the first fling to the last. I believe it could have been a have to go to event if it would stay in London. It can only improve .
All of this could have been avoided if ED would have simply asked or taken a poll as to what WE prefered. He put everything else to a vote , why not this?
I hope they never decide to move Sturgis. That might start a real war.
Hersh

I'm with Roger on this one. I...uh, my wife...can shop any time. Hell, I live less than 15 minutes from literally one of the largest shopping malls in the country. I also wouldn't want to leave my car somewhere all day and do something else. As I've said before, my favorite part of the Flings I attended was the autox, the cruises, giving rides, hanging out with friends (around the cars). IMHO, that's what the agenda should be.
And Roger....if you do ogling in the town you live in, I'm gonna start worrying about you.
Steve

The title of this thread pretty much tells you what to post here. If you feel compelled to name call, issue useless information about some other event, or disrupt because you are bored on the car lot, start your own thread.
I've stayed out of these threads, after the first day for a reason. It's doesn't matter if you go to London or Elyria, just make a choice and go, you don't need to belittle someone for their choice.
Now, about the island thing. First of all no cars will be left on the mainland. The cars would all be ferried over to Kelleys Island, there would be a parade lap around the island, and a road marked off for giving rides. This would all come out of the entry fee. In the beginning of this thread, there was a lot of interest generated about going to an island, and that is why this area was being looked at. This was never suggested by me, but rather others that expressed an opinion here. If the majority of the people don't want to go, then we won't go, simple as that. I can't wait until the last minute to plan events either.
Again, this thread is for events at DVSF V, and comments should be limited to that

Fling observations
1. Racing - of any kind - really does belong on a track.
2. Racing really is also a huge part of these cars, real or Mitty-like
3. Showing them off in a very public place is also a part of it all.
4. A beer wagon, and a tent, makes for some truly incredible new friends and incredible fun (like we didn't know this one).
5. London is a wonderful place. With wonderful people.
6. I'm hoping Cleveland is also - but not terribly worried about it, because I go for the cars and the people, not the place.
7. Ed Combs gave this to Jack, for his reasons. I will not second-guess him, in any manner whatsoever.
8. Poker runs thru ANY city suck.
9. I'm ready for an itinerary NOW - so I can make my plans too.
Best to keep everybody together, literally - that's what I saw Ed do better than anything else. We rode, drag raced, rallied, walked, talked, smoked, drank, ate, and partied together.
If that means Cleveland, fine. If that means London, that's fine, too. If y'all would just reflect on the good times you had just being there, it's hard to believe we have this much division.
Jeez, can't we all just get along?
p.s. - Klayfins, you can be unequivocally, absolutely CERTAIN the only ogling I do in new Hope is during the summer months, when the biker babes are struttin'. No worries, Mon.

Fling Observations
Turnpike Boy,
Everything you said mirrors my feelings. Re: #8: a poker run outside city limits may be fun.
And might I add, your reply was very pleasant to read, because the vinegar has been flowing freely within many other posts.

I will buy you a beer or two and B.S. with you when we meet up. Wherever it will be.
The Fling is just flat fun. And the folks are what make it so.
Looking forward to it, amigo.
