Auxiliary power

I'd like to add an auxiliary power socket to the cockpit of 707, but I'd like to keep it hidden or make it removable. Ideally, I'd like to fab up a bracket that will hold a two-port power socket across the lower dash support bars, which can be clamped in place and removed with a wingnut. That would mean a permanently mounted (dis)connector somewhere under the lip of the dash.

What have others done for cockpit power in ERAs? Where's the best point to tap +12V with a fused line?

Which connection depends on how much load you are expecting and whether you want the plug switched with the ignition. There is a brown wire (#30) near the firewall that is switched (originates at the top fuse on the driver's side) and capable of 10A. More switched current than that would come off the ignition ACC terminal.

Unswitched can come off of the Stewart Warner ammeter or at the ignition switch. You'd need a fuse for either of those taps.

The latter might work best, as I'm going to bridge the ammeter connection for replacement with a voltmeter anyway. I can tie all the wiring to the same point and safety it with shrink tubing and safe tie-down.

I used the cigarette lighter circuit and mounted the power socket under the dash by drilling a hole in the aluminum bracket that runs horizontal at the bottom. It is hidden and you don't know its there unless you look under the dash

Why don't you just put a cigarette lighter in the dash? Aren't you going to use it mostly for plugging in a GPS or charging up your cellphone/Blackberry/etc.? Nothing like a nice Smiths cigarette lighter to match your gauges.
