I met Jeff Burgy during DVSF and he has the same mirrors as I. He has found a company in California who has convex mirror replacements for our mirrrors. I looked at his, and it does make a lot of difference. I don't know that I can cover all the blind spots with all three, but it sure is an improvement. As soon as I find who has them, I will post the information.
Aruba Cobra
If you still want me to send you a small packet of pictures depicting my paint scheme and color codes or whatever, let me know I would be glad to.
If you want a full size poster of this paint scheme, go to
http://www.parts123.com/PartFrame.as...a_Restorersand look for posters section and I believe it is listed as "Black Cobra".
I bought a few and posted one right by the paint booth for the painters to bump into daily. They did so for 5 months!!
Klink
If it would help, I can tell you or your painter all the steps (necessary or not) we performed on my car. If you find a compotent painter locally, you could save money and watch it get painted.
I bet there are very good painters between here and there. If you insist on sending the car to us the SPECIALISTS ON COBRAS (because we painted one), call me at the office and I will put you in contact with my body shop manager, providing the entire crew don't bail out on me.

Turk! WOWWWW! The car looks fabulous!
Speaking for some of the guys with "smaller equipment", I can say we would certainly be proud to have your car as a "big brother".
Can't wait to see the results in person. The paint, and the color, look very awesome. I can relate to the trials and tribulations of the painting. I spent around $9k on mine, and some of the guys ragged me that I spent too much (maybe they didn't have the BOTTOM sides of their fenders sanded & filled, so that "nosy hands" couldn't find any evidence of glass cloth). I have a very nice paint job, and have won a "Best Paint" award with it, but, I have seen a few that looked just as good, and didn't cost nearly as much.
Have fun!
regards,
cobrajeff

Turk, I already have my colors and paint scheme picked out. All I want is a nice pic. of your beautiful shiny smooth paint job so I can show him that I expect nothing less than that quality on my cobra

Turk,
I'm with Andre. I would also like some similar hi-resolution pics. Just send them to my email address.
BTW, I didn't interpret your previous posts as self-promotion. Not even for a second. I fully understand that you're just plain proud of your car's paint job, and you certainly deserve to be. Those of us who have been here a while know you're personna well enough to realize that. I would imagine everyone else shares this sentiment.
I just can't get over how awesome that paint looks. It makes dang nice wallpaper for my computer.

Turk & Jeff:
If you locate the convex mirrors please post source.
I was driving around (the car now has 100 miles on the odometer!) up at Louden and all I could see in the rear view mirrors (I have two) was the rear fender and the roll bar.

I am going to Monterey this weekend, and hope to come back with some information on the mirrrors.
If you install the third mirror like I am planning to, you should improve you hind sight by 33.333%.
And they say hind sight is 20-20. They are wrong.
Excell Guru
I hope to roll the car out this weekend and get a few hi-res pictures and send them to you.
I am glad my trials and tribulations regarding painting my car was not taken as a blatant commercial for our body shop. If we were to take two more jobs like mine, we will go broke.
Aruba Cobra
You too will get one before the weekend.
Cobra Jeff
I am honored. We should do like they do with "Sister Cities" Start adopting one another's cars as a Sister Cobras.
I want mine to be a CSX 4000. Do you think Evan would be....no I guess not. What was I thinking?

My trip to Monterey Historical Car Races was a total fiasco.
1-Worked on my car until 3 AM last night -MISTAKE-
2-Woke up rather late on Saturday. NO MISTAKE-
3-Worked on the car some more. -MISTAKE-
4-10.30 AM decided to go to Monterey after all. NO MISTAKE-
5-Decided to ride the bike -MISTAKE-
6-Got literally sand blasted on I-680- DESERVEDLY SO-
7-Pulled into San Ramon Harley Davidson to buy a Full Face Visor-BIG MISTAKE-
Within 10 minutes of pulling in, I discovered that they were having a big get-together Barbeque, music etc. Aprox. 100 or more bike showed up and I got locked deep in the pile. Spent the next two hours looking for a "Gray haired biker with a pony tail" so he can get his bike out of my way. There were roughly 30 people matching that description.
By the time I was able to get out of there and make it to Monterey, and paid $55.00 to get in, I got to see 8 minutes of racing and ran thru the vendor displays and left for another 180 mile trip back home.
NO MIRRORS!.

Turk,
Just move that old fogie's bike out of the way next time !! It's not like the Hell's Angels are around anymore....well...on second thought
Nice interior on your car, I saw the post under the pictures of mine. Are you going to keep the interior so that it shows lots of aluminum? Looks good. I had a weekend like yours 2 weeks ago, mine involved replacing the starter on my Softail Friday night/Saturday AM, and then I went and got sandblasted in the Cobra instead

WOW!
Turk:
The car is looking GREAT! Absolute perfect blue for the choice of paint.
Funny though.... Until I saw your car, I had NO regrets on building my ERA... But now, I realize that I should have gone with the "sleeping bag" seat option.

Sleeping bag option is not available on the kits from ERA. You have to order a roller for that.
You guys are plain mean!
Be careful how many shots you take, I see that you are from Texas, and may I remind you I went to school in Oklahoma, and probably have more comebacks than you could shake a stick at.

Turk, I need a back-up!
Turk,
It looks like you and I are going to be a tag team against Evan "the real thing" Harris and Wayne "the"Stoker, so start eating those Cheerios and check out the thread of the forum. Oh, BTW: I think that WE just bet a set of wheels or tires on this match, so you'd better start pumping some iron!

Turk-- let's talk tires-- Peter has tried 101 times to talk me out of Blue Streaks because he said they will pick up stones and take the paint off of my car-- I clearly don't want to do that because I too have invested a ton of dough into the paint --
Are you worried about that?? Do you have some secret or are these tires for show only?? I am so confused that I had ERA deliver the car without tires and I still have not made up my mind-- The tire I am leaning towards is the Goodyear GT II -- but definitely under duress--
I keep chuckling about the seats as I still have not received my and I have had the car for several months now-- Can I borrow your sleeping bag??

Good Guys Show
Turk,
Saw you and the new machine at the Good Guys Car Show. Well Done. Well done.
I noticed on the second day of the show you actually left the side of your new baby.
Like all good Cobra guys you let the civilians take pictures of your hard work and It was nice of you to pose for them showing your pride.
I did think wearing the thong thing was going a little too far. Yet, a request from a fan still needs to be honored. I'm not sure the intentions of the woman from Hawaii were honorable.
What a great ride you have.

Turk,
Haven't heard from you in a while, Turk. What's the latest? Apparently, you have it on the road now.
I see how you're gonna be... just as soon as you have it on the road, all of us guys are shunned away while you enjoy the car. Yea, I see how you're gonna be.
Looking forward to hearing about how the project finished up.

I have been busy checking the tire pressures on my car and cleaning the muffler bearings. Haven't had the time to be in here like I used to.
Copper
Thank you. People seing the car with a dealer plate assumed it was for sale. I ended up putting up a sign on the windshield announcing that it was "NOT FOR SALE".
I couldn't stand there all the time. It was my first experience at a car show. I was very impressed how well folks watched out for the cars on display. Especially the children in attendance showed me that they had been around cars before, not one of them would touch or climb on the car. very impressed.
I am still not sure about the lady from Hawai. Too many questions and too far probing. ALOHA!!
AZ Cobra
Thanks. I think!!
Peter was telling you the truth. The tires I have is absolutely what they said they would be. Sticky as hell. I am having a hard time laying rubber. Whereas most folks complain about not being able to hook up. They are also telling the truth when it comes to how much damage you can do to your paint. They are like a street sweeper. You pick up everything and fling it against your rear fenders.
I am in the process of applying plastic spray on material that you normally find at the rocker panels of cars. This way, we can lay it as thick as we want color it and then clear it. Repairs (if necessary) would be much easier.
Listen to Peter. Stay away from these tires. Also watch out for cars wearing them at the track. They will definetely have a clear advantage over similarly equipped and driven cars.

Replacement convex mirrors were available from Kragen Auto Parts. I think they cost me around $2.00 a piece or something like that. They are a little too small, but not much trouble in making them fit.
If any thing they are a little too convex. Almost like fish eye. Much better than not being able to see.
Good Luck.

Turk,
It is now October 5th and I am catching myself up with some of the more enjoyable threads. I last posted that I was on my way to California. I made it to Cali and completed my mission to to convince my girlfriend to marry me. Big Sur is as a romantic place as any to ask the question that I have been around. I need all the help with setting to get her to say yes.
I missed your offer to call. I just read your response to me on this thread. I am sorry that I missed your phone number. I would have definitely called while I was in San Fran.
A couple of things that are important to note as I read this thread and my own situation with ERA.
1) I am doing my best to build Peter and Bob up to the level where they will hear from me everyday. My next round of contacts will happen this month. I expect at least 3 shop visists and 3 phone calls.
2) Based on the way your car looks and now that I have your phone number I am going to add you to the list of frequent calls. I wll be needing assistance with my paint job and will be extremely interested in your process.
3) She said yes. In May of 2002 I will gain a sister & brother-in-law that lives in San Fran and will be sure to stop by frequently enough to give you the same feeling that Peter and Bob will have in the coming months.
At this point you are probably legal to drive with that sleeping bag. Drive safely and beware the hills in San Fran. Noticed a lot of gash marks in the pavement. Made some myself with my rent-a-mustang as well.
