That, or many of them are more into the building than the driving. It's an odd mentality that leads to spending a couple of years meticulously building a car, and then enjoys going out and actually, you know, wearing some of that meticulousness off. I think a lot of cars are built by hobby-craftsmen who may or may not ultimately care all that much for driving them, hence the overbuilds with concours-quality chrome, paint, polish etc., sold with very few miles to make room for the next craft project.

To Gunner's point, some people are more into the build than driving them. And there are a few prominent CC members that I would classify into that category. Nothing wrong with that either.

To the OP, be patient with your search and the right car will find you (or vice versa). Sounds like you have the funds to buy the right car...why compromise? My $0.02 on these cars...hit a bullseye the first time out or you'll be back in the market sooner than you thought. Buy as much car as you can afford. Buy more HP than you think you can handle. If you're smart about it you will grow into it. Always respect a snake. FWIW, my next motor will definitely be larger than 392CI.

You know, just once I'd like to see someone post "I'm just sick and tired of my big block FE, I'm going to rip it out and go with a small block." But, day after day, it's the same old small block owners whining that they should of gotten a big block.... Yeah, it gets old.

Just busy. Life is "interesting" in the Chinese-curse sense right now. Among other things, we're contemplating a cross-country relocation next summer, which involves shutting down two businesses along with all the the other usual hassles.

Well ... I'll throw my hat in the ring on this one ... not only do I want a small block, but want a 289 or 302 that is actually as advertised.

There seems to be a lot of small blocks with big block displacements, and big blocks with big block & larger displacements, and all with incredible power ... nothing wrong with that !

I am definitely in the minority on this one ... but that's OK, I've got RodKnock & Co. to help me ponder wheels, roll bars and shades of blue ...

This car is gorgeous! Even though it's a relatively early chassis number, the seller says it's registered as a 1999 build. Not too old, really.

No buy yet. What I am finding is that ERAs are few and far between (as compared to SPF, for example), and the ones that are recently built are pricey. I am now thinking about other possibilities, for example maybe getting a brand new SPF and having Keith Craft put in a small block with 500+ hp and torque, for a price less than what a used, built several years ago ERA would command. (What do all of you ERA-o-philes think of SPF?) I have been at this for several weeks, and it's a little scary that I am still flip flopping about such fundamental choices. Maybe I need to slow down, take a deep breath. On the other hand, I rode in a couple this weekend, I definitely got the "must have" bug, and when I find the car that is exactly right, I'm writing a check for that bad boy. I am away for a few days, taking my 18 year old to New York for Spring Break. I will be back at this Sunday. Thank you all for the information, feedback, and advice. This site is an amazing resource.
