Counselor- a couple of serious inquires.
Did the scattershield come with such a large cut out? My Lakewood's is much closer to the fork.
I was gonna ask if your banjo fitting and 90 came pre-oxidized as a joke but I realized I've seen other areas of your chassis and fasteners showing light surface rust. I'm wondering if that bag you store it in contains or captures moisture. Do you put desiccant in it? If you inflate it with compressed air, then that's where moisture gets in-and stays for the winter.

Nice job! It even looks like you cut too much out, but I'm sure you need the clearance. You know. That saying. Measure twice, cut once.
Or in my case, Measure once, cut twice, maybe thrice.

It's a standard Lakewood, but the bottom is trimmed by ERA. It's probably just an optical illusion. I find when shooting on the angle a lot of things, and their perspective, appear to be very deceptive.

This area is pretty bad for rusting. The humidity, coupled with the temperature range and change, is pretty much the pits. That surface rust you see occurs during the non-bag months. Fresh desiccant goes in the car bag each year and, either last year or the year before, I went to the trouble of taking high-res shots of stuff like the rotors and other "easy rusting" pieces "before and after" her snooze in the bag. She came out looking exactly like she looked when she went in.

As you say, photos can be deceptive. So I have to ask, in your last photo it appears you do not have locating dowels in your bellhousing?? Or is that hole for a different application??

Well Chas, you'll love this. I took a tool inventory and was missing a 7mm box end wrench. Couldn't find it anywhere... until, yep, I looked a on the slave bleeder screw. It was still there, pointing straight up at 12 o'clock, even had the black cap over the tip and everything. Oh well, there goes my head mechanic's job....

Studying this particular thread, one can see how easy it is to accumulate nearly 13,000 posts in this forum. Maybe I should get fired from my job, invest in a decent digital camera and buy a car that I don't drive? j/k
I am curious what cleaner Patrick uses to wipe down the various components? No streaks and no dust residue. Meticulous cubed.

I'm probably in the minority, but I actually enjoy working on my car just as much as I do driving it -- no doubt about it. Now, honestly, that job was really only an hour's worth of labor (15 minutes to pull the MC, 15 minutes to cut and grind the fork, 15 minutes to reinstall the MC with the new inlet on it, and 15 minutes to bleed the system). I probably spent four or five. You know, taking pics, staring at the fork thinking "what the f***", getting the top bolt back in on the MC took forever because there is absolutely no room for your fingers, I wasted a half hour looking for a nut that had dropped in to my shirt pocket instead of landing on the garage floor, and so on, and so on....

I use 409 in the spray bottle. I also found that it does a remarkable job at removing burnt skin and tissue from my sidepipes without leaving any stains, etc. Seriously, it's great at that.
