Big brake front calipers
Bob,
I have been waiting for the back-ordered front calipers for 2139. Peter P. did tell me the set that were mine were mis-machined? Not that I am in a huge hurry for them, just wondering what exactly is the issue. Also wondering why you use Sierra vs a larger brand.
Thanks, Wolfgang

Sorry. Mea Culpa... I didn't have a chance to ask Peter on Friday.

Bummer,
I hate to bother Peter, he seems so busy. Any big brake guys out there with Sierra calipers? How do you like them?

At your service. Going on five years with them -- they work like a charm. Love them, in fact.

I'm running the old ERA type front brakes, Camaro single piston. Recently at Infineon that worked really well. The biggest problem was over heating, which I'm not sure an upgraded caliper would address anyway. I need high temp fluid, some cooling ducts, high temp pads, etc.
But the real problem wasn't even the front brakes, it was the rear inboard brakes! They over heated and resulted in a mushy pedal while the fronts were still good to go. I removed the access panel in the rear to allow for air flow to the rears and that worked well.
Of course a larger multi piston caliper allows for better feel and thus modulation to the point of impending lock up, but, those stock Camaro fronts sure exceeded my expectations.
I think you would have to be seriously racing, high speed, plenty of laps on a course that is known for being hard on brakes before you would absolutely require something more.

I use the Sierra calipers now for ten years and I'm very happy with it, also on Swiss Alps they works very well without any overheating, etc.

Talked to Peter today, he says they are Coleman calipers that they are having issues with. Leakage past the piston seals. Glad to hear that ERA tests their calipers before shipping them out. Anybody using Coleman calipers?

Hey, I've got Colemans on ERA #778, but I haven't gotten to the point of adding brake fluid. I doubt seriously if ERA checked mine. They were still wrapped and boxed!
Have any idea when they started having problems with the Colemans?
