Default Jag IRS

Hello All, I am currently saving to build a ERA 289fia, I am also keep a watch for parts that I may need. I have come accross a 1987 xj6 IRS, it is still in the car. My question is what should I salvage? I will be going with the ERA design IRS. Also how would I go about determing the gearing and if it has posi, any place to look for markings or numbers? thanks Jerry

Give me your email and i can send you a file with info on how to identify jag rears. The diff cover sometimes has a tag at one of the bolts with the ratio on it.

If you are intent upon using the ERA outboard rear, you will need the center section and, I believe, the stub axles.

The 87XJ6 is probably an open rear, ie; non-posi.

My advice is to give ERA a call and talk to Doug.

My practice has been to give them the entire rear, from flange to flange, brakes included, even when I am getting the ERA rear, inasmuch as they can use the other parts in rebuilds of other rears. I would otherwise be throwing the left over bits on the scrap pile at the recycling center.

Jim

Jerry et al,

Here's an article about the Jag rear in all its variations that I found very helpful some years back: http://www.firstcoastcobraclub.com/v....php?f=8&t=167

Alas, CWI is no more but the info is still viewable from my web site.

Enjoy,

Tom

Are you planning to get the complete rear from E.R.A., if so you need nothing from the used rear. If you are getting the kit there is a small list of what you get and need to supply on their web site under options.
