Dave, while I used the term historical, it's actually an Early American Plate. Nice to see the Assessor isn't going to require a plate conversion to obtain the $500 tax assessment. The language/terminology for this topic was updated in the last annual DMV Bill, for clarification purposes.

pjmoore2003, believe acquiring any type of vanity or special plate is a 2 step process, must have the standard plate first , then apply for the special plate. At least that has been my experience in the past

I've never seen that written, and I did not experience that.

Wouldn't that confuse the title process... 1965 requiring no title 2011 requiring title? Based on earlier post by Jay is anyone registering as 196x anymore?

Yes, but it required a Haviland Limoges on the back of his car.

...damn, that was clever.

From the DMV web site, I used for the Vette, AMX and Cobra, all for Vanity plates. Maybe the Early American plate has different regulations allowing the plate to be obtained during the initial registration.

" In order to apply for a vanity plate the vehicle must:
Be permanently registered in Connecticut.
Be updated in our database.
- If you have recently registered your vehicle, please call the DMV at 860-263-5154 with your current marker plate number before mailing your application to avoid delays.
- If the vehicle is due for renewal, please renew the current registration before applying for vanity plates. "

Are we confusing Vanity Plates with Early American Plates? You cannot leave the DMV with Vanity Plates of any kind. Vanity Plates (either EA or Standard) are obtained later and for a one time fee.

Exactly EA not equal to vanity. You can leave DMV with EA plates.

This car was not registered (yet) so I don't know what will happen at the next window... have another to do in a couple weeks that will be full process, so we will see.

Jay, if you can update the registration thread on any new info you get then we can get the latest on the correct thread. Don, Jay, thanks for actively updating us all.

One more thing. Our new Governor has just appointed a new Director of Motor Vehicles (the former Mayor of East Hartford) which will undoubtedly lead to new interpretation of this new legislation. It seems each local office makes their own rules up to this point. I hope this situation is clarified soon.

Thanks Jay and Don.
As far as that car getting antique plates, I doubt it. From what I've been reading, it will be titled/registered as the year it is being inspected.... but, then again, I am also understanding it can be year it represents only at time of registration, and it has to be a new first time registration, for instance, I cant change my already registered composite 1993 Cobra as a 67 now.

That's already almost twenty years old. Ready for a vintage plate in two years.

I am not going to bother for a few reasons.
1. I love the plate they gave me, must have been fate...lol
2. The assessor will give you the preferred antique tax assessment without the plates. Only one piece of paperwork required and your done!
