ERA Footbox measurements or pictures
I've got my eye on a 289 FIA, however, the following picture has me concerned about foot room.
It appears that the owner of this one may have bent his brake pedal up and to the right (why I have no idea) and that would make it a tight fit for my size 10.5ee foot. Need to compare some additional foot boxes with this one just to play it safe.
Anyone have the time to duplicate a shot or two (notice where his tape measure is located) for me would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bill S.

Patrick,
First off thanks for the shot, however, can you take another with the tape measure flipped over and the tape measure resting on the pedal fulcrum and not the pedal faces?
Once again, thank you.

Sorry, she's packed away in her little nighty-night bag until spring. But that's a straight on shot and the right hand side of the tunnel is straight up and down. The left hand side curves in a bit towards the bottom, but you can kind of tell that from the shot. I wouldn't get too hung up on the pedals though. Even if they're mucked up for some gawd-awful reason, pulling them out and replacing them is not a big deal and I doubt they cost much from Bob P. I'm betting less than $250 and you can use the AC pedal faces that you have (they just bolt and clip on from the back).
EDIT -- Maybe ERA Chas will take a shot of his pedals, I'm sure he's not doing anything today anyway.

Just sent you a pic of mine. The brake pedal is off to the right by 1.25" at least. I have a 10.5 shoe myself and it's tighter than a 427 foot box for sure. But I refuse to wear ballerina shoes! It's not bad though. Just makes you wonder how these guys raced these ole cars that well! They must have all had small feet!

Whatcha going to do with a radio in a Cobra? That just blocks out all those sweet sounds. I don't know about others but I've never understood that accessory?

Not me....
I always thought my clutch pedal had been bent away from the brake to the left. Now I wonder if the brake pedal was maybe bent to the right toward the gas?? Actually, I like it that way, but yes, easier to get hung up with the wrong shoes. The shoes, I choose carefully and prefer my race shoes if I'm driving any distance. Some of my shoes are an absolute no no.

Git it,thanks, I've enlarged it and enhanced it a bit so we can see the differences but cannot attached any pictures to this thread at the moment.

Footbox
As per:
"It appears that the owner of this one may have bent his brake pedal up and to the right (why I have no idea)"
I would imagine the owner did this to make "heal & toe" driving a bit easier . . .

The Clutch Looks "Not Right" to Me...
You know it looks to me like the clutch pedal is not right. I don't see how you can rest your foot on the dead pedal without it also pressing the clutch pedal as well.

I agree Patrick, on mine as well, I think the clutch pedal has been moved to the left away from the brake. No dead pedal on my setup. I've adjusted my brake and throttle height to match each other, makes blipping the throttle easier for a downshift. No problem "stabbing" the clutch and accidentally catching the brake at the same time.

I can heel and toe with little difficulty on my pedals, but I have an extra inch or two between my heel and toe. I don't know why his clutch pedal appears to be a good inch or two closer to him than the brake. Maybe his hydraulics are undersized for some reason and he needs a longer push, or he's got a weak leg, or something. The more I look at it, the more broken it appears to me. But again, that's an afternoon fix even if it involves slapping on a larger Tilton MC for the clutch in order to move the pedal back towards the floor a bit.

The pedal's adjustable as we all know and the clutch fully engages before hitting the floor, so you shouldn't need any new master/slave cylinder. You could move it to the traditional location. My legs are short and I've got problems with my ankle so I like to rest the left foot on the dead pedal, and just slide it over onto the clutch. I'll attached a picture after adjusting it back to a more traditional position. Gotta keep my reputation in tact here
Ankle problems or not, I'm NOT going to drive an Automatic... Yuk.
As for "bending" ERA Modified the footwells and the pedals to fit around the huge engine, much like they would for a 427 SOHC motor I bet. I have not altered them since they built the chassis.

Mr. Mustang,
I have 10.5 size shoes and can drive my ERA FIA very comfortably even with low cut hiking boots. Never an issue with hitting 2 at one time unless I want to.
That dead pedal looks too close and yes it looks as though the clutch pedal was bent out away from the brake pedal.

On the FIA I'm looking at the foot box was modified, it appears a little narrower which is why I'm attempting to get over FIA owners to post a similar picture for me to be able to compare them side by side. Would you be willing to take a shot tonight, try to duplicate the one at the beginning of this thread so I can see whether I will have room for my feet or not. I know on Marc's FIA (2112) I had no problem, but his was almost 1.5 inches wider than the one posted at the start of this thread. That 1.5 inches might make or break my ability to drive the car comfortably.
Bill S.

Yes my foot box is about 13.5" across. The dead pedal, on mine, is actually more forward than the clutch pedal too, this has screw inserts from ERA to position it. The picture you have also shows the gas pedal bent differently. Mine actually comes down to the right of the intermediate shaft, not the left then bent over. The brake pedal was definitely bent towards the gas pedal. As for the foot room, it's tight but not bad. Kinda like a newer vette, kinda. But now looking at the pedals it's hard to tell. Maybe the measurement should be taken like Patrickt's as the foot box looks to be modified from the engine side. I think the cats out of the bag on which car this is. I always wondered how they did all that. If it's the car I'm thinking of it's cool, trick, and one off. That might also be an issue too. Got any "Mustang Stuff" next to the coin collection? Regards, Matt

Sorry Matt, all of the Mustang stuff left is consider keepers for a yet to be thought up project cart after my son is out of college.
Here is another shot (thanks Adam) of the FIA pedal set up from the same car with the clutch pedal moved to be equal to the brake pedal.

Well, just measured mine again, the clutch pedal is the same, the brake pedal on mine is at 7", the gas pedal is at 12" and the total width of the foot box is right about 14". So the distance between the brake and gas pedals are closer on the car in question by about 1". Bill, what's your zip code you live in? Just curious. Gotcha on the Mustang Parts but you never know what someone else has. Regards, Matt
