Hi Allen,
Great to see pics of some really cool cars whose owners aren't too afraid of the rain ....and yours included of course.
Any more enhancements/changes planned on ERA2124?
Cheers,
Glen

Hi, Glen. Good to hear from you.....

I'm watching a couple 2-5/8" Stewart Warner gauges on Ebay if that gives you any indication of future plans... ;-) Also want to teach myself how to Tig Weld and make a few parts...maybe a set of obnoxious sidepipes...

- Allen.

Hi Allen,
Well at least you already have one of the harder to find 2-5/8" SW gauges.
Aren't your side pipes loud enough?
Cheers,
Glen

Ummmm....negative. I'm pretty certain the pipes I have are the "quiet" pipes ERA offers. They have good tone, but are missing that certain raw crackle at idle that I've heard on cars with open pipes.. It would be an exercise all in the name of safety.....loud pipes save lives...

Love the autocross photo with the inner front wheel in the air

Does the LM top do a better job keeping rain out than the softtops?

...yeah, I agree it looks pretty cool, but it probably shouldn't be doing that. I never really spent that much time optimizing the setup for auto-x. It just steers too slow and hard with the big 295 section Hoosier A6's up there. I haven't autocrossed the car for quite some time.

As far as the rain protection goes, I've never had a soft top on a Cobra, but I have had some experience with relatively rudimentary soft tops a la MGB... The side windows and around the top of the windscreen is where you get the most influx in a hard downpour, and believe me, I've been in a couple. That's one of the things I really enjoy about the hardtop is the ability it gives you to not give a darn about the weather.. It's not like a modern car by any means, so I keep a couple microfibers with me, but it certainly beats no top at all. It all comes down to how much time you spend sealing things up...I could probably spend a little more time in this area, but for what I have done, I'm relatively satisfied.

- Allen.

After a 250 mile cruise up the Blue Ridge Parkway in pouring rain in our ERA289, I am here to tell you that the soft top helps, but does not significantly abate the inflow of water into the car. Major sources of infow are at the center of the top where it conects with two little buttons to the windshield frame. Another major area is down the two windshield posts into the footwells.

Assuming that you can seal, caulk, etc. these two areas, the top is not too bad and for all of it keeps the rain off your head. It still is a good idea to pack everything securly in garbage bags...

Jim

I've often thought about the hardtop option. May eventually do it. It's pretty tough to drive at highway speeds without the side curtains. A lot of floppy floppy. A good rain sealing in rainy weather(doesn't rain in VT, right?) sure sounds attractive, as well.

Well, when you decide to be a part of the cool kidz club, I'll make you a set of side screens in exchange for a bluebelly T-shirt, or maybe a refurbished 12-string...how's that sound?

Well, I've just read right through this & thoroughly enjoyed it. Any more updates on this thread? You say the car is "Ivy Green" what car is this from & do you have a paint code for it?

cheers

Default Latest Pics..

Hello, and thank you. No real updates on the car at this time. Over this past fall, I took a few pictures of the car that I'll post here both with and without the hardtop installed. I do not have a paint code. Ivy Green, a period color on mid-60's Fords, was what the original owner was going for. This color equated to a more modern paint formulation called "Woodland Green Metallic" which was applied to Toyota and Lexus cars in more recent years. When I took that information to my body man when having the LeMans Hardtop color matched, we found there were about 6 different variations of the color on his paint pallet. In the end with none of those being an exact match, it took his Sikkens paint supplier having a look at it with his $10,000 camera to get the matching formulation.

I can see by your forum ID that you may be an FIA body-style fan? What are your aspirations?

Hi Allen,

Thanks for the paint info & the photographs. I'm currently scratch building a tribute to the LeMans cars (CS2131) and (CSX 2130) taking styling cues from both cars. The chassis will be built to accept Jaguar suspension & the body will be scratch built in aluminium with a hardtop. Engine will be a downdraught fed 347 cu in's with a five speed trans.

I've just replied to this thread & posted some photos of what I'm building, but it says that the post has to be authorised by a moderator. Can anyone tell me if this is because I posted photos from Photobucket in the thread? I've tried posting on here before & was told the same thing. The thread never appeared on here, so, I contacted two different moderators on two seperate occasions but had no reply. What do I have to do to be able to post up photos in a thread?

Regards.....Nigel

Nigel, just go and post some replies to random threads. I have a feeling you need 10 posts to be able to post images.

Ahh, that's too bad. I love your car. Someone out there will be getting a wonderful specimen of a Cobra. Good luck with the sale.

If I were looking, I'd buy it.
