From what I can see, the splined wheels being sold by Dayton are identical to the center lace 6" wheels that were used on the later versions of the street 289. Folks in the "orignality" forum may be able to clarify, but my understanding is that there were several evolutions of the wheels and flares on the "slabside" as the motor went from 221, to 260 and finally, 289 ci, with the wheels growing slightly wider with each iteration.

Dammit Jim....
...I swore I was done with owning Cobras.....this Slab Side you and Pedro (the unknown Mario Bros) are doing is like a new form of Viagra.
I can see a Vineyard Green Slab with matching painted wire wheels and black interior. Just like was on the cover of the SAAC mag many moons ago.
I'm loving it.

The "thumbnail" picture shows the next 289 Slabside version that I would do with kidney bean wheels... standard 289 street flare on the front and minor "clearance" flare on the rear.
As an aside, another little project that I have in the works is a Corvette GS Coupe with kidney bean wheels from PS engineering...

GS would be another great, I've seen one run up & down the PCH a few times. Awesome!
I'd love to build a slab for the wife. Such a great look, even with the wires!

I have once again been frustrated by this forums limitations in allowing me to post a picture of the GS project (it must be due to an anti Corvette/GM spam filter); no flares, kidney bean wheels as first raced...

Jim - what happened to the 'V12 jag motor in a spare ERA 427 chassis' project that was about to start?
Cheers,

THe GS project has been in the works for several years. The Jag V12 Special project is inching along. It too will take some tiime to get together.

Set up a Photobucket account, upload the pictures there and then copy and paste the IMG links into a post. That's how I post all my pictures.

Woody has forwarded on a picture of his Jag rear which utilizes very late model Jag outboard brakes. He is off to ERA today to pick 3002 up.

Woody's ERA 3002 left the shop yesterday and headed home to PA. And more Slabsides are in the works...

That's going to be a great looking car and I like seeing #3 and #4 (?) hopefully in the yard. Mafia called to say hi, before I saw these pictures, and he says he's excited about building Marilyn's. I'll stop by tomorrow to see if I can squeeze some info out of him and generally harass him. Love the weather change and we're getting some good miles on mine and doing a few local cruise nights and charity shows. Next time you're up visiting, Jim, give a call and say hi, or we'll take P. out for lunch.

The Slab is a great option. Glad to see them doing it! Can't wait to see what people do with them.

...as to the outboard brake Jaguar rear, that is something that Woody scrounged himself. The out board brakes were, apparently, available on the very last XJSs. It is nice to look throught the wire wheels and see the rotor.
Now, "Murky's" vision of Marilyn's slabside (as relayed to me by the mini me mafia of Dewey Street) sounds very interesting; pearl white with white side wall tires.

It gets pretty complicated sourcing the compatible outboard-braked rear suspension. The XJ-S used the old suspension layout for a couple of years past where the rest of the Jaguar line had changed to the new layout using a stamped lower control arm. For those odd years, they made new hub carriers with brackets to fit the outboard calipers, but the rest of the hub fit the old dog-bone lower control arms. Eventually, the XJ-S was renamed the XJS and there was a complete redesign to fit the new rear suspension that was common to the rest of the Jags.

Here's a link to pictures of the original car we want to replicate. Marilyn is so excited about it, but wants the Dewey Street gang to build it instead of me. I guess I was a bit obvious having her sign that life insurance policy, but I'll be happy to point to Doug if and when there's a problem! LOL To the link:
