Pedal Set Screws

Bob,

A few years ago I was speaking with Doug about some free pedal play and he said to check a set screw or two in the pedal assembly. I believe he was referring to the horizontal shafts. Can you tell me more about what to check? Are these set screws found inside the car or in the master brake box under the car.

I bet he was talking about this:

There's a set-screw on the inner end of the cross-shaft that secures the clutch arm. On the other end, there's a shoulder bolt.

You've got to get the car up in the air and take off the pedal box/cover to access one end of the shaft. The other end is connected to the clutch master cylinder adjacent to the frame rail.

Another area to check is the hole in the clutch arm where the master cylinder clevis attaches. I had clutch pedal free play at about 36,000 miles on ERA2041, and traced it to an elongated hole in the clutch arm (apparently due to lack of any assembly lube by the first owner ?). Bob sent me a new arm and pin, which I greased and reassembled. Don't forget to loctite the setscrew.
