CSX2129 Recreation
December 29, 2011. Today a downpayment was mailed to Peter at ERA to start our next project: a reproduction of CSX2129. Ken Miles drove the original during the 1963 season with great success. Now that ERA has a slab side 289 in their stable, reproducing this car is feasible. Building this Cobra will be an interesting ride.

Trigo Wheels makes a five pin Kidney Bean wheel with knock off if that is what you are referring to. trigowheels.com

Reason: change lug to pin and add knock off

Trigo does make similar wheel but theirs is 16". I think the original wheel was 15", though maybe I'm wrong.

Nice car to replicate. Are you trying to reproduce CSX2129 or just the look of it?
Why not get one from Kirkham? If trying to replicate it you can't get much closer than a Kirkham?

So what does CSX 2129 look like? There are many pictures on the net, but with copyright laws and copy protection one must be circumspect about copying them. There is also an excellent 1/18 scale model of this exact car, as it appeared when Ken Miles drove it almost 49 years ago at Road America in September 1963. We plan to visually duplicate the car as it appears in the model.
This Cobra and it most prominent driver, Ken Miles, share a fascinating history. If anyone is interested we can post a summary. It will explain why we have chosen this particular car as our goal.

Weird fuel-filler setup. Must be a "prototype" for subsequent FIAs.

Fuel filler: Looks like all they did was put a diamond shaped panel over the original opening and put the new larger "comp. style filler slightly further forward in the middle of the filler panel for a more direct shot at the tank.

Who is the "we" you refer to? Do you have a shop and employees or are you referring to the ERA staff?

The "we" is my son, Ryan, and myself. Not profesionals. Just a couple of amateurs having a blast building reproductions.
